Emma m As always, it was truly my pleasure! I love making these, and knowing that they are helping people, even in a small way, still blows my mind. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment!
I must say I never thought the peace sign would be a distraction to people as something going against the grain of the church, but unfortunately I suppose you’re right that there are some church leaders who would be bothered by it. I suppose some may have generational/cultural baggage with it that I don’t have. In any case, I hope we can all live out Biblical peace (shalom) in our lives. Thanks for taking the time to watch this video and leave a comment!
I'm thinking of attending for grad school! I love Chicago, been there twice and felt God called me there, and my heart was set on Loyola University, but Moody is much more affordable and it's growing on me.
Hi Austin. I'm going to enter to Moody in 2 years, and I wanted to ask something. Have there been any students that finished Moody and then had successful life with secular jobs?
Yumin Roh Great question Yumin! Unfortunately, I have not, but I have talked to many people who have gone on study abroad trips and have absolutely loved it. One amazing thing about Moody is how affordable our study abroad options. It ends up being about the same price as studying on campus which is way better than what you’ll find at most colleges. My original plan was to study abroad next spring, but as of right now that’s a little unsure with everything going on in the world. However, assuming studying abroad remains a viable option, I would love to do it and I would highly encourage you to do it as well!
Gospel Simplicity Thank you so much for your reply with many details. It’s so helpful! I’m sorry to hear that it’s unsure..:( I really hope this situation to become better soon.. I’m not sure how tense the situation is right now where you live, but I hope you stay safe. :)
I am about to enter my senior year of high school, and I'm looking seriously into Moody for college. Both of my parents are Alumni, and I've heard wonderful things about the strong theology and gospel-centered culture at Moody. I'm hoping to be serving overseas in the future, so Moody seems like a perfect choice. My goal is to major in Elementary Education; I've had no idea what to do with my life until about a year ago and over this past year God has been leading me towards this. So unless He leads me in a different direction, I'll be preparing to leave for Moody this time next year!! With every Moody-related video I watch I grow more and more excited, as well as more certain that Moody is where I want to be. This video was extremely beneficial in answering a lot of questions I have, so thank you very much!!!
I’m so glad you enjoyed the video and I’m even more excited to hear about your heart to serve the Lord and to attend Moody with that goal in mind. That’s fantastic! Hope to see you on campus next year
Hey Austin! Thanks for this video. I’m planning on going to Moody this fall and im concerned about being able to maintain my prayer life. Does having a roommate make that difficult on top of just being busy with school work? Thank you in advance!
Felix Salgado first of all, congrats! That’s awesome! I’m excited to have as a part of this community. As far as maintaining your prayer life, it’s just all about intentionality. Some people do it better than others. On one hand, I know people who are in Broman chapel (a prayer chapel on campus) at 6am everyday and pray for hours before their first class. On the other hand, I know people who don’t budget their time well, find themselves overwhelmed, and their spiritual lives suffer because of it. For me, I’ll say my prayer life has never been better than at Moody. I wake up early and do my quiet time in the room while my roommate is still asleep and it’s no problem. Most floors also have specific group prayer times (my floor did prayer together at 7:30am on Monday’s and prayed for the floor). They’re optional but I’d recommend it. Also keep in mind, as far as roommates they’re going to be passionate about their faith as well, so they’ll want to see you grow, and they’ll be conscientious about not getting in the way of that. So, by all means, be intentional, and if you do that, it’ll be great.
I got accepted to Moody! I can’t wait to attend in the fall... but I do wonder a lot about dorm life. I’ve been in a dorm before, and I have to admit that I overpacked. Could you tell me more about dorm life, how many roommates and the biblical relationships made? Thank you! Love your videos!
mobilecrafter first of all, congratulations! That’s so exciting! I’d love to talk about dorm life. There are two main female residence halls, one male residence hall, and then another for upper class men/married couples. For the two main female residence halls and the male residence hall, it’s two people to a room. As a new student, you will be in one of these three. I can’t really see your profile picture to identify your gender, but I’ll just speak to the situation for both. One of the female residence halls (Smith) has bigger rooms with bathrooms in each room, and the other (Houghton) has hall bathrooms. The male residence hall (Culbertson) is also hall bathrooms. Each floor at Moody has its own Mascot and is often known for having a particular floor culture, though obviously this changes over time. Like I said in the video, many people will stay on their floor for all four years, so that creates a really neat dynamic with people of all ages. Each floor also has a life group which is an optional small group that meets once a week. This is a great place to foster biblical relationships. Like any college, some roommates click better than others, but the fact that everyone here at Moody loves God and is seeking to grow in their faith makes the odds of that relationship going well quite high. Is that helpful? If you’d be interested in seeing a room tour video some time, let me know as that’s something I’ve been considering. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment, and I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos!
Gospel Simplicity thank you! And yes, your comment did help. I am a male lol, but yes... I would love to see a room tour! I’ve been trying to find one on UA-cam but wasn’t able to find any. I could only get small glimpses from Josh Aarum’s UA-cam channel.
mobilecrafter I’m glad that was helpful! I’ll see what I can do about the room tour, but certainly some time before the semester is over I can make that happen. In the meantime, don’t hesitate to reach out with questions!
Hey, I'm an international student planning to attend MBI 2021 fall intake. I have a few questions that would really help me sort out my finances 1. Can we opt out of meal plan and cook ourselves? Like the dorms have kitchen? Do we have to pay any extra fee to be exempted out of meal plan ? 2. As mentioned in the website , we have to pay more than 1300 usd in other fees ? Like campus technology fees, facilities fee, activity fees? 3. Can you suggest other health insurance plans than university one cause it costs 1300 per year. 4. How are part time work opportunities for international students in moody? Can we support our living expenses by working 20 hours per week ?
Hi! I got accepted to Moody and am thinking of coming in the fall... but I’m pretty nervous to leave my hometown and come to a place where I don’t know anyone...any advice?
First of all, congratulations! That’s super exciting! That’s a great question, and it’s completely understandable to be nervous about that. My biggest thing that I would say about that is that Moody does a phenomenal job of helping you meet people and develop community. Between your floor community, bro-Sis relationships, and your cohort, you will be introduced to so many people, all of whole are committed to loving God and the people around them. That goes a really long way toward making Moody feel like home. The other thing I would say is that college is a great time to stretch yourself not just academically, but in a holistic way, and getting outside your comfort zone will stretch you in many ways, including your faith, and I couldn’t recommend it enough. Best of luck to you with this decision!
Thank you for sharing your story! I was just wondering about your life at Moody, what's the average amount of free time you get during the term?:) Do you get really busy working on homework?
Yumin Roh My pleasure! That question really depends on a lot of factors. I’m also a bookworm who genuinely enjoys school, so I probably spend more time on schoolwork than most of my peers. With that being said, I’ll give you an average day for me this semester (pre-COVID-19). Also keep in mind, I was taking 18 credits which is a lot. In any case, I had three classes a day every day (many people choose to make schedules where they only have classes Monday Wednesday Friday or Tuesday Thursday if possible) so I started class and 9 and including chapel and lunch, would finish class by two. I would generally do homework from 2-5 then go to dinner. Some days I would be finished by that time, but a decent amount of the time I would still have some reading to do afterwards and would wrap that up from 6-8 or so. After that, I would generally be free to hang out and do whatever. I like to knock things out like that, so I never stayed up late doing homework or studying. Some of my friends would do the opposite and hang out after class then stay up late doing homework. It’s kinda up to you. In general though, I felt I had a good amount of time to go around the city, hang out with friends, and work on hobbies (like UA-cam!). I also overloaded my weekday schedule so that Saturday was free unless I had papers, and I made sure I never did homework on Sunday to give me a day to rest. Hope that helps answer your question!
Gospel Simplicity Thank you for answering my question with your kind reply! It helps me A LOT:) Is it your junior this year? Also, have you been given any scholarships?:)
Yumin Roh I’m so glad that helped! I’m actually a sophomore right now. As far as scholarships, all undergrads at the Chicago campus get the Chicago undergrad grant which means your tuition is paid in full by donors. It’s a pretty incredible deal. You do still pay for room and board and I did not get any scholarships for that (truthfully I didn’t apply for any either)
Andrew Emmanuel absolutely! GPA is only one of many factors they look at, and the most important part of your application is your personal essays, so just crush those and you’ll be good!
Gospel Simplicity thank you so much for the response! I saw your previous videos and you had a guitar. In the moody dorms, do you think i have space to bring my guitar(s)
I really look forward to pursuing pastoral studies but I’m not sure i want to take music seriously, but i don’t want to abandon it. So I’m not sure about how this whole thing works. I’m also international so i have no idea.

Chicago is incredible. Those are both potentially great options. What do you want to study?
@@GospelSimplicity I got my BA in Linguistics TESOL from SJSU (grew up and live still in California) so I would continue that path, MA TESOL :)

Maybe! I don't have a roommate this year though so it might be a little misleading

Is there a dance studio I can attend while at Moody? Would it be possible to get time to attend dance classes?
At the school itself? Not that I know of, but we’re in downtown Chicago so there’s probably 100 dance studios in a mile radius
