    Some great little details in there that look well practiced! Watch closely!

    Great demonstration. The only suggestion for improvement is to have the rescuee roll towards the rescue boat at 2:12. A minor thing overall. The rescue team did that at point 3:12 in the 2nd rescue

    Thanks for great video.
    I always ask swimmer to grab my deckline while climbing back. Much less stress on me to keep his boat stable

      Yes that is the only way to do it.

    Good, every kayaker should practise this. I like the way the rescuer pushed the boat to the casualty to "collect" him; it is time saving. Are you based in Switserland?

      Hey there, yeah we're based in Interlaken but this one was filmed on a trip to the Isles of Scilly, Cheers, Dave

    Hi, great video. Thanks. What is your advice if the boat is upsidedown and water locked? I am especially curious as to what the rescuer does at the initial approach to the casualty, grabbing his boat and then emptying it. Thanks in advance.

    Hold the decklines on the side of the rescuer’s kayak. You risk getting pummeled if you wrap your legs around the recuser’s bow

      Good point, but I guess it dependson the conditions and situation. In many settings, the security of the bow is the better option.

    Great video. especially helpful that you have slowed down the video so the information can be absorbed well.

    Does it work if boat heavy loaded?

    • @HightideSeekajak
      @HightideSeekajak  3 роки тому +3

      Hi Sergey,
      The technique does work with heavily loaded boats and actually this technique involves very little lifting, First of all you just need to slide the boat to the cockpit rim and then rock it over. Of course, before you commit yourself to a big expedition, it's good to practice your rescues witht he boat loaded as you'll paddle it. Avoid having things on the deck - this tends to create more problems. Happy Paddling, cheers, Dave

    Nice video one thing I would try differently is instead of the swimmer going to the bow of their boat have them stay at the side or go to the stern, the reasoning behind this is the rescuer is trying to go to the bow and with the swimmer there they are in the way. Thanks for taking the time for the video :)

      But if they stay at the side of their boat then they may be in the way of the emptying process.

    • @TomJonesGearGuy
      @TomJonesGearGuy 3 роки тому

      @@martin.feuchtwanger no, they stay there only until the rescuer takes control of their boat and then they go to the bow or stern of the rescue boat. The people I train with are making the boat change as contact is made since we have a very good idea of how we all work it

      As a fairly new paddler, I feel more confident that I can see the party being rescued is still “doing fine”while I empty their boat, so the bow is a better option, because I don’t have to “look” for them.

    • @TomJonesGearGuy
      @TomJonesGearGuy 2 роки тому +1

      @@grace4today542 yes I like having the swimmer go to the bow of my boat too but I will not waste time if going to the stern is faster. I was commenting on where to have the swimmer go while you are approaching their kayak and if I’m going to the bow as the rescuer I do not want the swimmer there. Have to take in to account we practice mostly in calm water but most real rescues are in rough water and things are moving all over I don’t want to have to worry about pinning the swimmer between boats.
