San Francisco Rush (PC vs Nintendo 64) Real Hardware Comparison

- A side-by-side comparison between the San Francisco Rush The Rock ProjectR 0.6.0 version for the PC Windows and the San Francisco Rush Extreme Racing for the N64 (Nintendo 64).
Note: Do not confuse this fan-made version with the official version released for PC in 1997, which you can see here: • San Francisco Rush (Ar...
Left Side = PC
Right Side = N64
The interesting part of the comparison here is not about which version is better or worse, especially because the PC version here is a modern fan-made port that even surpasses the Arcade version. You can play it in different aspect ratios such as 4:3, Widescreen, UltraWide, etc., and at various resolutions.
So, what is interesting about this comparison?
It’s seeing how close the N64 version is when compared to the PC or Arcade versions. Obviously, it won't be better, as we're talking about hardware from 1996 for a game released in 1997. Still, we can say it's a very faithful version of the original, especially when compared to the PlayStation 1 version, which is disastrous.
The N64 version, compared to the PS1 version, has the following characteristics:
The same physics as the Arcade version
The same gameplay as the Arcade version
Tracks with the same dimensions and shortcuts as the Arcade
Meanwhile, the PS1 version lacks all of this. The PS1 version of this game is truly terrible and only serves to make the N64 version even more impressive. By the way, among the three San Francisco Rush games released on the Nintendo 64, this one is my favorite... or rather, it's the only game in the San Francisco Rush series that I actually like. I’m not a fan of San Francisco Rush 2049, which many people seem to love, but since I’m not like everyone else, I prefer this first version because I feel the tracks and shortcuts are more elaborate.
I really wish the Dreamcast had a port of this version instead of San Francisco Rush 2049, which I don’t like. I know the GameCube, PS2, and original Xbox had a version in one of Midway’s collections. However, they forgot to adapt the controls to work properly with a joystick, making it a poor version due to being a practically buggy emulation of the Arcade version running on these three systems I mentioned (GC, PS2, and Xbox).
So, in my opinion, the Nintendo 64 version remains the best home version.
And for those curious to see just how bad the PS1 version is, here's this comparison: ua-cam.com/video/uI6DrCE-ioY/v-deo.html
I remember that video. What I mentioned in my comment was the music was a lot better on the N64. Also on closer inspection it looks like a Logitech steering wheel over the interior of the Ferrari from the recent Need for Speed 3do original vs hack video. Nice.
@@JohnCharb87 Yes, the ''dashboard'' is taken from the interior of the Ferrari in Need for Speed, and the steering wheel is indeed the Logitech G920 (Xbox/PC version), even though I own and use the G29 (PlayStation/PC version, as mentioned here: 1:31 ... which is the same wheel I used in this Daytona USA PS3 video here: ua-cam.com/video/-448F1opzrM/v-deo.html ).
The reason I chose to feature the Xbox version, even though I use the PlayStation version, is because I think the Xbox wheel looks "cleaner" and matches the format of the video better.
Overall, the two steering wheels are the same, although the PC version has a few extra buttons...
I agree, SFR is the best Rush, but I don't remember having problems playing the Midway Arcade Treasures 3 port on the Xbox, I will play it again to test this and even make a backup to test on Xemu (until now all multiplataform games I tested that don't use any shaders are working flawless on Xemu, let's see if my luck keeps working!).
With the N64 version of San Fran Rush. It had the advantage of the N64's ability to calculate more advanced physics and render more open environments.
I’m very interested in how you were able to get such a clean analog signal from the n64. I’d like to do the same.
I do miss the kind of car deformation 90s arcade games had. I know it's usually a licensing issue today with real car models. However seeing cars get crumpled and smashed like in Daytona USA or games like this is so satisfying.
San Francisco Rush vehicles are totally unlicensed, that is why they can get a better deformation compared to licensed vehicles. Its impressive how in L.A Rush had licensed vehicles with the same damage level.
The n64 port definitely captured the 'feel' of the arcade back in the day. One of the more impressive racing games for the system
@@Sharpester-m4o Can't the PC also do that ? the arcade version used voodoo graphics cards from 3DFX which was also available for PC
No nintendo had no idea on what they were doing they captured failure you mean
@@Sharpester-m4oanother youtube comment who just writes and doesn't know what they are talking about
The PC version is quite an impressive homebrew port of the original coin-op. The N64 version is also a good port.
I can hear the PC Master race already pouring in.
PC = piece of crap
I had no idea this PC port existed! Thanks for this!
Was made recently.
Really cool PC controller visualization. Reminds me of the arcade cabinet. Also Viper GTS clone is always the best choice.
You're completely missing what made San Francisco Rush as well as Rush 2 on N64 truly legendsry. They let you play through the entire circuit of tracks (24 for the original) 2 player split-screen. The game would even adjust the difficulty based on how good or bad you were doing in the overall standings adjusting opponent difficulty, wind, and fog to keep things interesting. This was sorely missing from Rush 2049.
The n64 version controlled great. I've never played the pc version, but I do remember pc controllers being terrible back in the day. Gravis gamepads were trash.
Graphically the PC is the clear Winner but Memories of Racing my brother and trying to unlock cars were on the N64.
Nintendo 64 visuals looks more detailed = winner 🏆
Its good to see the game fanbase still is alive and trying to revive this franchise since Midway went bankrupt in 2009 and nobody knows if Warner have the rights of this game.
PC version is the arcade and the n64 is still my favorite.
I think the only Rush game I ever played was 2049 for the Dreamcast.
That's also the best version ever. Especially the multiplayer battle mode. Still play that all the time with friends
Adorei o cockpit da Ferrari 512TR do The Need For Speed, bela sacada!
Comparatively, I prefer both, N64 is more nostalgic to me, but longing to play RTR in arcades for so long made the Modern day arcade pc port a clear winner. Especially with a racing wheel, makes the whole thing that much more authentic
I love sf rush on the 64, it gives me migraines on occasion thatll only go away after i sleep but thankfully it rarely happens. Only game that has ever done this to me out of all my systems and games, but its happened more than once over the years. Still its an awsome home port of an even better arcade racer.
Also for clarification, this is a source port
N64 actually looks impressive.
The arcade original was light years ahead of the N64 version. But I think Nintendo did a good job, at the time I had a lot of fun.
n64 hardware was over hyped and over rated
PC is the obvious winner because it has a higher framerate and just looks more appealing
But at the same time it's also busted
Framerate doesn't make an obvious winner. Gameplay does.
PS2 version is the most busted of all.
@@ChaseMC215I just read the creators comment. He's using a fan made game that fixes the issues. So it's not the original PC game.
Nintendo 64 wins 🏆🥇
The N64 wins because it has a championship mode...
The fog never goes away on n64 lol
N64 had the most ugly textures but the polygons were stable on the plus side
Good stuff
Yeah, it does look dated but the N64 version was very impressive for its time.
As melhorias no PC são ótimas!
N64, draw distance and fps, its so poor.
Nem sabia que existia uma versao pra PC desse jogo eu joguei mais no n64
pc specs?????

Nintendo 💪
On every N64 Vs. PC/whatever discussion, people tend to forgot that N64 didn't have a fan to cool system down. Every Pentium -PC would had overheated instantly without fan. As well as DC and PS2 & XBOX.
N64 also had internal power supply that heated system even more, but still no freezing.
N64 was likely as powerful as was even possible to mass manufacture during those years without cooling system.
If N64 would had fan & external power supply, it's interesting to speculate just how much would had it been possible to overclock the system -core upon the release at -96. -I've seen people go up even near Dreamcast CPU -speeds via overclocking N64.
cpu speed was not the problem on the n64.
N64 looking like a actual system. With the expansion pack, the n64 is like a modern console
PC but n64 version is still a nice port
PC
pc win
the low resolution, fog, and low fps of these early N64 games are hideous.
Every day is like a cold rainy day. And the sound was terrible too, on this game. Sounds like a crappy little old radio.
After they started using the Nintendo 64 Expansion Pak the games didn’t seem or weren’t hideous
Well its SF there should be fog!
@@jasonlee7816 Its definitely an improvement, but i still think they still suffer from the bottlenecks (the framerate with expansion pak... oh god). In fact, i would argue Perfect Dark and Donkey Kong 64 could had been made for the standard system (4mb) if they had more time, after looking at some other games.
PC WIN🎉
N64 da pena
There are like a thousand kilometers of difference between the PC version and the N64 version! It's incomprehensible that at this point and with 64-bit power they haven't managed to even come close to the Arcade version. 😏
