There was North Kalimantan Communist Party (NKCP). Mainly in Sarawak state of Malaysia but their involvement in spreading the communism ideology was way back to Sabah state in the north of Borneo. Their flag kinda distinctive to remember. There was also People's Party of Brunei. While ideologically more on Socialism, they were thought to make contact and received help from China and NKCP as well. Predominantly Bruneian Malays, they did have their own flag but I couldn't really remember as it was black and white in the school textbooks.
