The main reason I did not go with the most aggressive position on install and went more midway is big bicycler thighs. I still feel more in control yet don't feel as much pinch. Finally got these added to my 9R2 after having a thigh slip out during a missed initial roll attempt. Thankfully repositioned and hit my 2nd attempt just before a manky drop. Not going to have that happen again. Many thanks for the instructions. Along with the comments, these are still helpful 3 years later. Cheers!
These are amazing , you don’t need to remove the thigh brace from the kayak , just remove the standard pad and then screw in the hooker , saves a bunch of time , great instruction as always , 👍
Great instruction as always. I just finished installing hooks and your back band webbing mod on my Ripper 2. Interesting that after those two adjustments I had to move the foot pod one step farther away. Probably add the foam heel block down the road. ✌️
Been using those in my Machno for three years and love them. Remember using similar thigh braces in a Prijon Pure some years back. Got a couple of friends over here who are using thigh braces from Waka Tutea in their Rippers. Thanks for the video.

Cool accessory that must safe a lot of time in this modification. I fabricated something very similar 10 years ago or so when I was paddling a Pyrannha. Granted the thigh brace was different back then. Great video, thanks for sharing.
Great vid Wade as usual. I may be corrected by someone who knows for sure, but I seem to remember these being available on Pyranha boats 15 years ago or more. They weren`t that popular, but it`s fair to say that if you saw a set they`d be on a more aggressive ( better ) paddlers kayak!
I think they are a must, I've always had them, only downfall is the foam can delaminate from getting in and out but a bit of duct tape has sorted mine!!
@@WadeHarrison I had a pair from an old (@2001) Pyranha Pilot "touring" kayak. I'm not sure if they are the same drilling as it took a little bit of work to get them to fit. But they absolutely transformed my Ripper.
Wade. You are 100% right!!! Didn't have thigh braces on my first Burn III. Installed them on my second Burn III, What a dramatic difference in the response of the kayak!! While Pyranha designs excellent kayaks, their attention to seating and comfort in a kayak leaves a lot to be desired. The sad part is I don't think they really care. Great video. Keep up the good work.
Awesome I had seen these in older boats and on Pyranha caring I think they do care a lot on paddlers feed back just lot of time and $$$ in revamping outfitting across a entire brand so yeah there’s some things I would change on about any boat but think all brands nowadays have pretty good out the package outfitting but yeah still give them suggestions I think you be surprised how much those suggestions mean to manufacturers
Hmmmm. Mine came with same size screws. Also, found it less time consuming to just turn the boat on its side and screw on the thigh hookers without removing the thigh braces. Gotta torque your neck in a weird way to see the screw holes though.
I was looking at that could probably just lean your head over and not remove the thigh brace I should have said that in the video I wanted to remove it to show on video how to install but your right probably quicker just dipping your head in there and adding them
Thanks Wade. How easy so you think they would he to make out of some old Kayak plastic or carbon fiber? I need three pairs, so thinking that I'd get one set and try to make shift another couple of pairs.

Hey Wade I have a set of these on my scorch and really like them. I also have an old Fluid Nemesis, aka my surf boat, that the thigh hooks or blocks or whatever you want to call them, just suck. I've tried every position, and nothing seems to work well, I think they are just too small. The Fluid thigh hook looks to just be a hollow plastic block. Do you think it would be possible to attach either Pyranha hookers or NSI thigh hooks to the Fluid thigh blocks? I was thinking of just trying a few wood screws, or do you have a better idea? Thanks, Tom
For sure on boats like the jed and ripper these help and yeah when you want out its very easy to just slide back and come out the jed has a high knee area so it's not really an issue
I love the hooker thigh braces I've added them in all my pyrahna boats. I have been having trouble with the hip pads riding too low. Any tips on improving that? Looks like those TN boys had a pretty nice looking upgrade on their hip pads. Any insight on what they used?
It’s been holding up extremely well even with the harder edge on it solid build to it and the plastic holding up I know several paddlers with them and theirs holding up also
@@WadeHarrison dammed I realy want a ripper or a rewind is there some trick u know to get them cheaper because I dont realy have that much money right now seeing as I ame only 14
I bought a pair but couldn't use them. I was having issues with my legs going to sleep in the Ripper, and I thinks it is because of the low knee position. The hooker's made it worse. Haven't figured out a way to be comfortable in that boat yet and am about to give up and ditch it. Plenty comfortable in other Piranhas, so wondering if it is the height of the cockpit rim putting pressure on the top of my legs
Yeah you do loose a little knee height with them. did the problem of the legs falling asleep get better if not check your hip pads that's almost always the case with me.

Hi Wade, I am wanting to buy a new pyranha jedi. I am having truoble finding one. Any dealers I contact do not have any and will not have any. Do you know of any dealers or anyone I can contact to get one? I am in the Charlotte area. Thanks!
my legs are like the opposite of most peoples. when I see those thigh hookers, I see pain. I'm getting a scorch specifically because the thigh braces are so high. I'm not flexible at all so I can't force my legs into a splayed position. My knees need to be as high and inward as possible. But this was interesting to watch!
I would never recommend that because the foam pillars are what keeps the boat structure get a bigger kayak then a HalfSlice if wanting to pack with gear
