Great video. Chinchilla color genetics are very interesting. I've owned chinchillas since 2007. Right now I own 10 male pet chinchillas and they're all different colors.
Thanks for this video! I believe my Chinchilla is the Goldbaar. He has blue-grey eyes that show a redish tint in some light. He has bred with my standard grey female. So far, they've only produced standard grey kits. The kits seem to be a much lighter grey than their mother and they have white hairs throughout their tails.
I wanted to breed a few chins. I have male Sapphire double recessive gene. If I buy a Pedigreed Standard the kits will carry the Sapphire gene but could I buy a Standard Angora which is recessive. The kits would carry the Sapphire and Angora gene? I really want an Angora female standard rather than a regular standard because I have a regular standard but not Pedigreed.
it's really not a problem to breed a standard angora to a sapphire as long as both are really good quality. You would have offspring that are standard grey and both angora and sapphire carriers. The most important thing to do is to find the highest quality standard RPA you can .
@@AllysAnimalAntics That sounds perfect. That's just the outcome I was hoping. I've been studying but don't want to try until I'm sure on combinations. You have been so helpful. I watch ur channel all the time. Beautiful babies 🐾💜💙
Hello Ally. I was hanging out with my albino Chin Sprite ( Skuuba Sprite Mukes is his full name) and I decided to see if there's anything I could be doing better or less of and within 10 seconds your voice stopped me in my tracks. I used to listen to a true time podcast that was pretty well done but I think it went off air because around mid to late 2018 I heard nothing for almost a month so I unsubscribed. Your voice and inflections sound just like the podcaster I used to listen to. I listen to Dark Topic, Murder Mile and Sword and scale since the day the went live and I'm still with them. But the lady's who I used to listen to had such a calming voice I would listen to those in my down time while I nap or sometimes when I drive. If you know of whom im referring to, do you know the name of the podcast because I hadn't thought about it since maybe december of 2018. Not until a moment ago..Any info would be much appreciated. Maybe you should consider podcasting about Chinchillas, maybe based on listener/UA-cam subscriber demand and that way you won't have to stress over content demand and time constraints. I've been told I should many times but I'm lazy and it kinda makes me nervous overall. Anyhow, this was a good post,my first time seeing it. I'll subscribe. Ty.
Hi thank you 😁, no unfortunately I don't know the name of the podcast, it sounds interesting though. I have never really thought about doing a podcast, I wouldn't know where to begin but will have a look in to it 🙂
Hi I tried to focus mainly on colour mutations in this video. I have done a seperate video on Angoras and Curlies 🙂 Yes you're right I did miss off white diamonds, to be honest I missed off a whole load of white variants as there were too many to list. I might do another video on colours as I also missed off brown pearls which is a thing now 🙂
Hello ! Could you do a video on all the chinchillas you have ? I was wondering how many there is ☺️ Also my chinchilla recently lost her daughter and she hasn’t been eating or drinking , could you advice me what to do ?
I will try to do a video on that in the future 🙂 If your chinchilla hasn't been eating try giving her some critical care , if you do not have critical care you can try grinding up some chinchilla pellets and add some water to make a paste and try feeding her that on a spoon. Its important though if she has stopped eating to see a vet as soon as possible as it can be a sign of something more serious. Hope this helps
I just got a Chinchilla, her name is Luna. She is still young but I cant figure out her coloring. She has a white tummy light grey (the color normally associated with Chinchillas, like a Chinchilla colored bunny) sides and she has a darker grey/black on her head and back.
no black velvet is a dominant mutation , on a black velvet the black veiling turns to grey on the sides of the chinchilla and then has a white belly. Black pearl is a recessive mutation and is completely black on the top and on the sides with no grey and then has a white belly .
Yes it is a type of white, another name for Goldbaar chinchillas is "Lowe recessive white". Unlike normal whites, Goldbaar is a recessive gene and is fairly rare, they are white with a distinctive golden tint to them. As you say they normally have dark red eyes that sometimes have a hint of blue as well. It is a very beautiful chinchilla colour. I have only ever seen one Goldbaar in person and the chinchilla was gorgeous 😍 Sometimes people get Goldbaar and pink whites confused because they both have red eyes and pink whites sometimes have beige coming through on their fur which can give them a off white look, but Goldbaars have a very golden hue that pink whites don't have.
yes it is possible to have that combination 🙂. In the UK it would be called a TOV ebony white. Its sometimes it's really hard to tell with whites unless you know what the genetics of the parents were.

10 chins?
Wow! How can you keep up with taking care of them?
Correction…THEY own YOU. I know…I had 9……
@@emilyspector2728 True, lol. We're down to 7 now since we lost 3 of them this year, sadly.
Excellent! I do find the colors confusing, especially as you say, the whites. Thanks so much for putting this together.

He sounds lovely, I've only seen a goldbaar once before. But they are such beautiful looking chinchillas.

I am shocked you have sapphires! A breeder told me those are frail in health. I would love to get a violet or black velvet.

I have a mosaic male that is a BDC, wanting to breed him as well. What are some color combos for him I can do?
What about angora and curlies? Or a white diamond?

What about a blue diamond plus a standard grey?
if the chinchilla has the standard grey gene it would just be a standard grey blue diamond carrier if that makes sense 🙂
So is a "black pearl" the same as a black velvet?
no black velvet is a dominant mutation , on a black velvet the black veiling turns to grey on the sides of the chinchilla and then has a white belly. Black pearl is a recessive mutation and is completely black on the top and on the sides with no grey and then has a white belly .
@@AllysAnimalAntics oh that's fascinating!! who knew they could be so complicated! thank you :-)
Can there be TOV gray?
yes that's a black velvet , if the velvet isn't that strong though just on the head in parts of Europe it's called a blue slate.
When I got my boys from the breeder they told me they were "gold bar". They are off white with dark red eyes. Is that just a type of white?
Yes it is a type of white, another name for Goldbaar chinchillas is "Lowe recessive white". Can I have this blue diamond mix with male white what colour will the child be like ?
What's the difference between a Sapphire and Violet? They both look gray to me.
What are the purple-ish ones called? Are they uncommon? Sorry if you mentioned it, I speed-watched the video.
Violets 🙂 they are a recessive mutation so a little less common. But they have been around for a while so quite a ot of people breed them .
Hi Ally can you possibly help me figure out my chinchilla's colour. He is about 16weeks old and has a white belly with grey underneath the white.
You can send me a photo through Instagram if you like my account ne is Ally_B_animal_antics
How can i send you a picture of him?
Hi best way is to send me a photo through Instagram if you have Instagram. My Instagram is Ally_B_animal_antics
Hi, I was curious if you were a chinchilla breeder?
yes, only on a small scale though.
Hi Ally, I do have a questionf for you if you dont mind.
Hi i was told my chin was a TOV silver ebony is that possible? And if i sent a pic could u tell me what he actually is?
yes it is possible to have that combination 🙂. In the UK it would be called a TOV ebony white. Its sometimes it's really hard to tell with whites unless you know what the genetics of the parents were.
Ally's Animal Antics thank you i would send a pic but im not sure how to put one in the msg
He looks like my standard and looks like he's smiling lol
