    Thanks Davie. I used to tie this pattern quite a lot in the late 80’s/early 90’s, as it was a very successful pattern when fished on the point at Rutland Water, back in the days when Lough style fishing was very successful. Tied on a size 10 heavy gauge hook it caught many good rainbows, particularly from August onwards when I am certain they took it for small pin fry. Yet again, another pattern where you have to use blue jay and not a substitute ! 👍

    I like this one. In fact, I like many of your flies, Davie. I have watched many of your videos, most of which I want to try. I'll definitely give this one a try for some winter steelies. I have been itching to go out and catch some, something I haven't done for a while because of my work schedule changes.
    Thanks for sharing.

    really nice job.. this fly works great in Ireland in the Midlands after dark for "croneen" trout..which are indigenous to Ireland and run from the rivers to Lough Derg on the Shannon..

    • @kerrypitt9789
      @kerrypitt9789 2 роки тому

      Very interesting. The Croneen trout goes to sea? Do they grow quite large? I ask about the sea because they are a migratory type of Brown Trout I'm wondering if Migratory means to the sea. In Atlantic Canada they have Anadromous Brook Trout that go to sea and may weigh 14lbs

    ...of the larger flies I tie for economies sake, for use in the rivers when I am well enough to fish.
    Although many of the small flies are beyond my ability to attach to tippet, I watch you create them and marvel at your skill.
    Thank you

    Awesome Fly. I have collected wild bird feathers some Blue Jay and Cardinal - the colors are bright blue but I liked the way you put the Bluejay with the mottled look on the throat of the fly. Again excellent Video work PERFECT!

    Hi Davie,
    No need to respond. Just wanted to let you know how appreciated your artwork is.
    As someone who first learned fly tying from books back in the seventies, I know how lucky those learning today are by having your expertise at their disposal.
    Many of the flies I watch you tie I would no longer attempt due to poor eyesight among other health issues, but I watch them anyway, enjoying and appreciating your skill.
    I am still tying, but am limited to large steelhead flies and other...

    Hi Davie. When you say you need one slip from each side for the wing, is that each side of the feather or two separate feathers?

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  Рік тому

      Hi @cuanmuyllaert6930,
      It's a feather from the right wing and one from the left so that the wings curve naturally coming together to meet at the tips..

    I'm preparing flies for the Golden Award .
    Can you please tell me how to make the wings for the silver invicta.
    I have wasted dozen oh hen pheasant to the point of giving up flytying.
    I can do your style wings, but not accepted!!
    Your help will be most appreciated.

    Davie,
    I admire your methodical approach to efficiency when you tie and the details you share. I've noticed you use a brush with a rubber looking cap when you varnish your flies. I've never seen something like that advertised or in shops. Would you mind sharing what it is and where you got it?
    Thanks again for sharing such great educational videos.

    I have been tying for years. Maybe it's me or cheap materials but, I cannot seem to tie wings like the ones in this video. If I try to tie a traditional Royal Coachman I end up making it into a Royal Wulff because, I cant get it right. I know it's more durable to tie Wulffs but, for my own satisfaction it is not the same. Can you please offer a tip or a video link to help me out. Thank you
