So at some point Time Travel needs to happen in a future DK game. This would make sense as to why Donkey Kong III is stupid and immune to the Tiki's hypnotizing music, just like Fry was immune to the the Brains' brainwaves. Might also explain why Cranky Kong resents Donkey Kong, if my past self made such stupid decisions to lead to me becoming my own grandpa, I'd probably hate my younger self too.
Oh No I actually think donkey kong has always been donkey kong since 81 and diddy kong is dk jr and kranky kong is a new character that was introduced in donkey kong country and when he talks about the arcade games it could just be within there universe not ours
johnnyscifi well, we know there were these "ape wars" thing, which happen after donkey kong arcade, but before DK country, and somewhere between these games donkey kong sr became a cranky old man, and we see baby DK modern in yoshi's island nowhere near his parents. Just what could have happened to DK jr during the ape wars that turned his father into a bitter old man and left his son in the care of the yoshis... well that was a dark theory.
Redgrave192 Yeah, he did, It's possible it was a localization mistake. Though it's also not unheard of for grandparents to call their grandchildren son or sonny or my boy. In later games though he was referred to as his grandfather again though. So it's possible that was a mistake in DK64. Good use of your noggin.
Are all these DK videos driving you bananas? I'd like to ask now, what do you think of the format I've kinda been going for, that being, having a few videos on the same game out around the same time, Like how I had a bunch of PunchOut!! videos near one another, now a bunch of DK ones. I still throw in other ones in between, but still, I want to know what you guys think: Keep a theme for a while, or keep making various ones all over?
Ok someone told me silver the hedgehog may have aspberger syndrome can you maybe tell me if he does or if he doesn't please he is my favorite video game character and I have aspbeger syndrome so if he had it to it would be pretty cool
Those other things can be easily explained. 1. If gorillas live about 35 years that would put Cranky in the perfect time frame to be baby DK. 2. You said it yourself that would be his first starring role. 3. Donkey Kong Jr. picked a fight with Mario which makes picking another fight with him "back to his old tricks". There isn't any other reason why modern DK can't be in Mario versus Donkey Kong. The *_REAL CONTROVERSY_* is; is modern Donkey Kong Cranky's grandson, or son. In Donkey Kong Country it makes it seem like he's his grandson while Donkey Kong 64 is vice versa. I feel like it makes more sense for him to be his son since Donkey Kong Jr. raced in Mario Kart and now modern does, and it fills the whole of what happened to Donkey Kong Jr.
Brenden Kidd and no for all you theorists Jumpman is not Mario's dad for 2 reasons. 1. Mario is seen with Pauline in the Mario versus Donkey Kong games. 2. Just like Cranky is the original Donkey Kong in official Nintendo canon Mario is officially Jumpman.
+Hero of time Link I found another troll who treats fake theories as facts. Stop spreading lies you fake Nintendo fan. Nintendo confirms that Mario is Jumpman. Shiguro Myiamotto even said that Mario is originally known as Jumpman and Mr. Video at one point, so you're lying! Mario used to have black hair back in the arcade era, have you seen the Mario artwork in Mario Bros for the arcade? Check it out if you don't believe me. And Mario always have a black mustache as well. Besides how can Pauline be Mario's mom? Are you insane? Look at her appearance in the Mario vs Donkey Kong series and Super Mario Odyssey, she is still just as young as Mario recently, and the Mario vs Donkey Kong series did hint that Pauline has romantic feelings towards Mario. Let me give you a hint, go research.
Simple to explain. Cranky in the arcade used a cloning machine to clone himself. Then the clone used a one-way time machine and lied to Cranky's son (DK's father) and said that he was his son, then just got used to the name DK.
I disagree I did a review on it (that I'm still finishing editing) for my channel, but I can see some humor in it, but it's mostly more of so bad it's good, than good writing as I see it. The one thing I do like about it is K. Rool, when he wins the smash ballet, he better have that perfect voice they gave him, I can't imagine him with out it, unless he has no voice. But your definitely entailed to you opinion. BTW it would fit in between DK country games.
There's a MARIO MULTIVERSE. In Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam, characters from different Mario universes cross over. All Mario games are canon, but in different timelines, similar to the Zelda series.
In Donkey Kong 94 on GB, he was wearing the necktie. This was the original, because DK jr. is right be his side. This means DKC takes place in the future.
It's almost like the Mario and Donkey Kong games exist in a franchise where all of the separate games were never meant to be connected in the first place!
TheIntimateAvenger I used to believe that the games where dk fights king k rool exist in an alternate universe because why wasnt mario in those games if mario and donkey kong share the same universe in general but I think your right on the franchises not being connected in the first place
Gnoggin, can i just say you have slowly become one of my favorite youtubers. Seriously i love the effort you put into your videos and they just entertain me so much. Seriously man, keep up the good work.
The "starring role" thing could just be a reference to the character of Cranky. In the original he as identified as DK, and not until DKC did he go by Cranky. So perhaps that's why the DKC3 GA has the little Cranky Kong Country thing.
Yoshi's Island DS deconfirms Nintendo's "truths". Along with Donkey Kong for the Gameboy, Jumpman first came to the mushroom Kingdom after beating Cranky, while Mario first came through a pipe in the sewers to fight Bowser. The two characters are father and son. Even they can change the lore, as Rare already messed up with calling DK Cranky's son instead of grandson.
+Kermit the Collaisal Douchbag Stop being bring to fake theories and know the truth idiot. Yoshi's Island DS is not canon. Nintendo confirm and establish that Mario is Jumpman, even in the games. DK 94 for GB made it clear Modern Mario is classic Mario(Jumpman). There's a new Donker who calls Mario Jumpman in Super Mario Odyssey. In Paper Mario:TTYD, there's a minor character in Glitszville who calls Mario Jumpman. Even Nintendo always shows trivia that Pauline used to be Mario love interest befor Peach is created, and Nintendo establish made(and still make) it official that Mario is Jumpman. You do not know nothing about Mario. It's fake Mario fans like you I consider worst than the cringe Sobic fan base.
Carmen Herrera you do realize lore can change in a series, right? Look at Donkey Kong for the Gameboy. It shows "Mario's" first time entering the Mushroom Kingdom. His first time entering was during SMB1, which was just him coming out of the sewers. Two completely different first entries into the Kingdom, and Cranky Kong was there with him too. Nintendo doesn't care about the timeline, so they don't realize they created two different first time entries for Mario into the Mushroom Kingdom. And when was Yoshi's Island DS not canon, it happened after Yoshi's New Island. Donkey Kong Country stars Cranky's grandson modern DK, whom was in Yoshi's Island DS with baby Mario. You didn't even link proof that Yoshi's Island DS isn't canon, so stop speaking bullshit. Nintendo doesn't care about Mario's plot, so they never acknowledge any of the games that prove that Jumpman is Mario's father. Also Paper Mario TTYD takes place in a different universe.
@@racistcowboyluigi4235 You're completely wrong. Donkey Kong 94 for GameBoy made it clear that Mario is Jumpman. Mario disovered the Pipe that leads to Mushroom Kingdom, but didn't went there. It's until the Mario Bros Arcade game where Mario and Luigi travel through that pipe in New York sewers to finally go to Mushroom Kingdom. Jumpman isn't even called Jumpman in Donkey Kong 94, he's called Mario. And Mario already has his modern iconic design to show this is the same SMB Mario. Pauline is even just as young as Mario himself, even to this day. And Nintendo made it clear in the modern games like Super Mario Odyssey thatPauline is the original love interest for Mario. Get it through your head. Mario is Jumpman himself.
I’m surprised that pretty much nobody ever brings this up, but both "modern" Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Jr., unchanged, appeared at the same time in the first Mario Tennis game for the N64. There’s even a victory screen with Jr. where he gets held by DK. So that must mean an adult modern DK is holding, his… *father as a child?* I’m sorry but this theory just makes no sense to me. Manuals are not exactly the most reliable when it comes to lore, they couldn’t decide on who Birdo is after all. I think the most likely explanation is that Cranky Kong is someone else entirely who just *admired* the classics. Maybe he could be DK Sr.’s friend, or brother, or whatever, but he’s not *the* DK. I don’t believe he would’ve aged so rapidly from the 80’s to the 90’s that quickly either, I know these are apes and monkeys we’re talking about but "modern" DK hasn’t aged one bit since his debut 30+ years ago. Some people like to point out Tiny Kong for evidence of aging as well, but again people are only relying on specific manuals and fail to realize that maybe she’s just been aged slightly to change her proportions to differentiate her more from Dixie. Overall, there *is no canon* for Donkey Kong, they just decide what they like best for how everyone and everything looks. That’s it. The DK we have now may as well be the same from the arcades but with a different attitude embracing newer trends. I always thought Cranky was a parody to represent older fans anyways, with DK himself not giving a crap. They even used his modern design to represent the original Donkey Kong for Pac-Man’s Smash Bros. reveal trailer at the end, along with Mario. *They are the same character.* You can’t any more official than that. The Mario vs. Donkey Kong game series mentioned here should’ve been the indicator since day one, but people don’t want to accept that for some reason. This isn’t even to mention the fact that Diddy Kong at one point in development was also intended to be called DK Jr. even with his redesign as well, but only made him an entirely separate character because Nintendo thought he "looked way too different" in the end, hence him just being his friend or nephew. Why DK Jr. hasn’t been seen much after the GBA era is anyone’s guess though. Maybe Nintendo just doesn’t think he was worthy of being brought back for more games and didn’t want him to be confused more with Jr.? Or maybe he just eventually grew up a little bit and went on his own separate path? I have no idea. But regardless of the reason, they clearly do not want to give any sort of real attention towards him anymore outside of referencing older games before Donkey Kong Country. (The Donkey Kong Jr. arcade game itself and Super Mario Kart especially) Oh yeah, and if you’re still unconvinced, to top it all off there’s also Donkey Kong '94 for the GameBoy, which is also basically a direct prequel to the Mario vs. Donkey Kong series and Super Mario Bros. series. I’m not making anything up, this is all just official stuff. Donkey Kong today is the same Donkey Kong from the arcades, *confirmed.*
Don't baby mario and baby luigi also show up in mario tennis though? If they can be in it why not baby donkey kong jr? Also the DK in 94 is still Cranky Kong. Modern DK doesn't appear until Donkey Kong Country
I used to think that the intro in donkey Kong country was supposed to trick us into thinking that is donkey Kong who grew really old until we see donkey kong III
I think Dorkly has the best explanation. His states that modern Donkey Kong is actually the original Donkey Kong, but he was thought of as a villain, so Donkey Kongs agent pinned the whole kidnapping on DK's grandfather, and that DK jr. was killed off.
I would go with the old sources first and dismiss what the new games say. I know this would be bad practice in something like real history or science, but this is the video game industry. If Nintendo originally said that Cranky Kong was THE Kong who fought Jumpman, then that's what I would stick to. I would guess to simplify the story, Nintendo changed the story that it was Donkey Kong all along.
Nintendo have always designed their games mechanics-first instead of story-first. Things like this are bound to happen because story is always an after-thought to them.
In dk 64 rareware fixed that problem and also said in an interview that cranky kong is not dk's grandfather but his father and modern dk is dk jr as an adult.
But wait what about DK '94 on the Game Boy? That had modern DK and DK Jr. together, and it was a first party Nintendo game, which was released to build hype for DKC that same year.
I come from the future. In the future Donkey Kong becomes Cranky Kong's son. Then reverts back to his grandson, then back to his son...... Nintendo loves to retcon..... also for a short while Mario stopped being a plumber..... then became one again...
Nintendo has confirmed many times that Jumpman is the Mario we know. Him and Cranky are both around 35, since that's very old for a gorilla and still somewhat young-ish for a human, and we know they're both the same age. And of course, Pauline is in Odyssey now and is certainly not old enough to be Mario's mother
Broadway JR thought that was probably done to stop people like Matpat thinking Pauline was Mario and Luigi mother though Nintendo have still not debunked the first theory that Mario suffer from ADHD.
Yoshi's Island DS confirms that Modern Day Mario is the son of Jumpman, as Modern Day DK is a playable character. Cranky moved out to the Jungle after DK 94 (DK Gameboy), and since he already had a son, DK JR would be Modern DK's Father.
Normally, I don't care for any Game Theories, but I do not think Cranky is the original DK. I think Jr. is DK's son, Cranky is his father, and the arcade DK is the same one as the one seen today.
But DK jr dont appear in the DKCountry games and Candy and DK are even dont dating officially or getting married for having a son together, DKjr is faded since Diddy take his place even in Mario spinoffs since MKDD .
Easy, two Marios. One is married to Pauline, and the other to Peach. A third one can be the ones who were in the spinoffs such as Mario Kart. Perhaps baby Mario, baby luigi become Dr. Mario, and Dr. Luigi. And baby peach becomes Nurse Peach. This explains why Baby Rosalina isn't a redhead. Its just Rosalina jr. So, Dr. Mario and Mario are possibly two entirely different characters in smash bros. But that's just my theory.
Smashing Pichu That makes sense, however baby Mario and Luigi are Mario and Luigi as babies, and they are traveling forward in time, as seen in M&L Partners in Time. Dr.Mario could be Mario, he has 3 jobs, rescue peach, plumber, and doctor. But an even better explanation, is that Dr.Mario is Jumpman! That makes the Smash bros Dr.Mario make more sense, his Up-B is shorter because he's Jumpman. Mario jumps higher than his Father, Jumpman, ironic. (Just look at the arcade game and any Mario after SMB on NES)
EqDF Spario Otakuenda Oh yeah. That could be it. However, time traveling was never stated in any spinoff games. Plus, Baby Rosalina should still be ginger if it involved time traveling.
actually it's this way... Cranky is not the 80/94's Donkey Kong Modern Donkey kong is the same as in the arcade, rare just gave him a new look and Donkey Kong Jr is Modern DK's son as it appears in mario tennis and double dash so there we have it Cranky is Dk's father Donkey kong is cranky's son and Donkey Kong jr is modern dk's son
Jumpman is Mario's father, and Pauline, Mario's mother, could just be having a weird midlife crisis in Mario vs DK. Part of this is explained in Game Theory's Mario timeline video. As for modern DK capturing Pauline, maybe just seeing her stirred up some old feelings. You can expect that Cranky has told Donkey Kong about the stories of him and Jumpman, and how Jumpman abused Cranky, causing Cranky to capture Pauline, then about how Jumpman took Pauline back, kept Cranky in a cage, and terrorized DK Jr, Cranky's son, by beating animals with a whip to force them to go after DK Jr (explained in GT's Mario mental series). For those of u saying that Cranky once referred to DK as his son, grandfathers do that sometimes. Although I do wonder where DK Jr is while this is all happening.
Red Speed ok if nintendo confirmed jumpman is marios dad and not grand dad than maybe pauline is marios mum or maybe jump man didnt marry pauline in the end but if they did than means mario and pauline the 2nd are brother and sister
@Cringe Incorporated but there might be another pauline since pauline in the arcade is way different to the new one BUT that fact doesnt 100% matter since in super mario bros the characters lool different from what they look now
@@ray2dasherthedragon336 Why are you lying? Nintendo made it clear and establish that Mario is Jumpman and Pauline is Mario's ex-girlfriend. It's not that complicated. Also, apes age faster than humans.
Dude I love your work, I really liked all the little mac videos. I'm fact, those are the first videos I sse, you go have a great thing going for you Austin. Keep it up. Oh and I noticed, you been making a lot of donkey Kong videos lol.
Donkey Kong 94 (Game Boy) implies that the original DK wore a tie too, since that is obviously Cranky, so the tie design could still make sense being Cranky
nintendo has a problem identifying cranky and jr and donkey kong. In the manual it says donkey kongs pappy, pappy being another word for father so rares original design was that cranky was the original donkey kong and donkey kong jr would then grow up to be the new donkey kong
Time travel shenanigans from Cranky Kong, in which he travels to the past while still young. The only things left is how and why. Also as long as he knows who his grandparents are he's not likely to cause a paradox by inadvertently creating himself. Terminator proved it can be done.
One thing I'd like to add: Cranky Kong was made by a 2nd party dev: Rare and the DKCR games are also made by a 2nd party (Retro Studios) however MariovsDK is 1st party, so it might have never been Nintendo's intention to have such a major plot hole. and the whole cranky being original DK is done by Rare. So I question if it's really canon.
It is my theory that the Mario from the 1981 arcade game, also known as "Jumpman," is the father of Mario and Luigi. Thus, the Mario that we all know and love today is actually "Mario Jr." In my own version of Super Mario lore, Jumpman and Pauline married several years after the Donkey Kong incident and had Mario and Luigi. Donkey Kong Jr. was full grown around this time and had Donkey Kong III (the current Donkey Kong) with an unknown female Kong. I think this explains why Mario and the current Donkey Kong appear to be around the same age, having appeared together as babies in Yoshi's Island DS. As far as Pauline from the Mario vs. Donkey Kong series, she is not the same woman from the 1981 game but a cousin of Mario and Luigi who was named after the original Pauline. That's how I like to explain it all.
The first time that any DK has ever appeared with a tie was in the Game Boy game titled "Donkey Kong" that came out in June 1994 (a few months before Donkey Kong Country). This would mean that the DK from the barrel-throwing days was the first one to even wear a tie, so it would be ridiculous to assume that any DK wearing a tie is the one from Donkey Kong Country. It's probable that Cranky Kong picked up the tie sometime after his first encounters with Mario and later passed the tie down as family heirloom of sorts. The point that the barrel-throwing Donkey Kong was the first to wear a tie makes him the definitive tie-wearing Donkey Kong.
Oh I'm using my noggin alright! To hit the keys! Just kidding, I'm pressing the buttons with my thumbs. My noggin is being used to think up, "Hey! Maybe the entire cannon still makes sense! The Game Theorists made a video concerning how 1-Ups work, and that is a theory that could completely just... hypothetically MARRY this one.
There are some rather simple ways to explain those points: 1. Yes, there's a Baby DK alongside Baby Mario, but... that isn't the MARIO of the arcade games either! At least, according to MatPat, and he gives some pretty good reasons for this. Instead, THIS Mario is likely his SON, and depending on how you want to spin things, that could make Baby DK either DK Jr. or DK the 3rd. 2. The quote says (emphasis added) "I'm improving my skills for my NEXT big adventure in Cranky Kong Country!" This actually implies that he's been on at LEAST one other adventure in the past, thus invalidating the whole point. 3. Ah, my favorite bit of plot untangling... you know how in the arcade games, DK is antagonistic to Mario? Well, my theory is that the FIRST Mario Vs. DK game (technically the second, since the Game Boy's Donkey Kong ('94) plays a LOT like it after the original four levels of the arcade) is the FIRST DK and Mario, but that the act of kindness at the end REFORMS the big ape, leading to their prosperous career of translating their past escapades into game form. All OTHER games in that series are in-world promotional materials made by the CURRENT Mario and DK, and thus never happened "off-stage" as it were. As for why Pauline doesn't look any older... it's probably a combination of good genetics and excellent physical care, as would be expected of someone of her apparent importance.
For Mario, Luigi and Pauline not aging, I like to pretend Mario And Luigi: Partners In Time was canon, and that the characters you play as are either the original Jumpman Mario and Luigi and that you're protecting the modern day Mario and Luigi. This could explain Pauline having blonde hair in the past but brown in the future, (when the current DK was abducting her). Or my other theory is that, by altering the past with baby forms of themselves, they've created some kind of Limbo where nothing really changes anymore, including age. I dunno, I'm overthinking it, Nintendo needs to either fix lore, or just stop altogether. It's too confusing.
I want the Aku in therapy meme with Cranky talking about Mario Cranky:"It's like he never ages...like ever...like all he did was grow those stupid eyebrows...I feel like he's gonna be here forever..."
You question how Mario and Pauline stay the same age when in the DK continuity itself we see Tiny Kong grow into puberty while everyone else remains the same
Thunderciba We could assume that Mario and Pauline have a similar genetics problem to Konata and her mother Kanata from Lucky Star and simply age at a much slower rate than normal. Or (Wasn't Pauline a blond in the original games?) the Pauline in Mario VS DK could have been his Older Sister or another woman he fell for that just happened to have the same first name as his mother. Also, Mario (Jumpman) is actually dead thanks to DK Jr. (This could also explain why current Mario allowed DK Jr. to appear in Super Mario Kart. He didn't have the same personality as Jumpman and did this to show he didn't have any hard feeling towards the Kongs do to Jumpman's actions.)
DKC2 GBA Intro cutscene confirms this, and Cranky is DK's Grandfather. The original team that worked on DKC 1 and 2 did not work on DKC 3 or 64. They were working on Banjo-Kazooie and some other N64 games, while another Rare team worked on DKC 3 and 64. This explains the "son" error in DK 64, as the new team wasn't as knowledgeable on the series as the original team.
I would LOVE a video that actually covers and brings together all the facts, and then maybe goes into some theories, regarding the ape wars or whatever. :D I mean there's so much known about it yet it's quite a mysterious history.
so would Donkey Kong merely be a title and not an actual name? like how Kahn in mortal kombat is a title like when Shao Kahn became emperor then Kotal became Kotal Kahn, and isnt Donkey Kong supposed to be the king of the jungle or is that from the tv show?
TheGeckoNinja I think that's an interesting line of thinking, that the head of the Kong family takes on the title of "Donkey"... although Donkey is kinda a lame title to be striving for. :P
RPGtourguide Maybe it means something different in their native tongue? Like how "fanny" means your butt in American English, but female genitals in British English?
I don't consider the sequels to Yoshi's Island to be canon to begin with, so I'm disregarding that. "Warping through time and space, Bowser suddenly appears!" Also Baby Wario, Baby Peach, Baby DAISY!? Why is the stork taking the same route for princesses of different kingdoms anyway? None of it makes any sense, even by Mario standards.
There's also the theory that Jumpman is Mario's father, which rules out Yoshi's Island DS. But Nintendo has stated numerous times that Jumpman is Mario. That phrase, "old tricks", is a hole, but maybe it means DK is up to his old tricks that "his grandfather" did yet again, or we are seeing what happens when Nintendo give their icons to different companies.
I think the whole bit of Donkey Kong being "up to his old tricks again" is a reference to the Donkey Kong Game Boy game, not the arcade original. That game features modern DK (albeit an old design, but DK tie present)
Unless the games where donkey kong the third fights king k rool take place in an alternate universe and the regular universe where mario fights bowser and wario donkey kong the third would still a villain and always has been since 81
Eeeh, I like to think that Nintendo characters are more like actors following a script and not a timeline, and Donkey Kong is a role on a story, and since Cranky Kong and DK Jr. weren't such successful characters in their time, Nintendo was forced to remake DK into modern DK, and just kept his predecessors as his relatives to add some fun depth, Mario, on the other hand, has remained iconic and fresh since Super Mario Bros 1, ergo, no reason to phase out his design nor for him to age.
Alright, so I have a theory about the Mario vs. Donkey Kong series. So, in the first game of the series, Mario opens this toy factory and Donkey Kong falls so in love with the toys that he steals them. Even after Mario confronts him, Donkey Kong just acts pitiful because he wanted a toy so badly, so Mario gives him a toy anyway. In the second one, Mario opens a theme park, and DK becomes infatuated with Pauline and offers her a Mini Donkey Kong toy, which she turns down in favor of the Mini Mario toy. This formula continues in the whole series... What if this is all just a marketing scheme? Think about it. Mario and DK have always been on good terms, and here Mario is trying to start a business. In order to garner popularity, he pulls this publicity stunt, reenacting the famous scenes from the original Donkey Kong and hiring an actor to play the role of Pauline, although the ultimate message of all of these is how great the product at hand is. DK, Mario, and "Pauline" are all just playing roles in an advertisement. Even the actual gameplay all revolves around the applications of the toys. This would mean that the MvDK series don't break the canon of the other games and the DK lineage is as we believe it to be. Food for thought, at least.
Here are some games I'd be interested in seeing a theory of. Heck, some of these I even CHALLENGE you to find a theory for. Animal Crossing Banjo Kazooie Angry Birds (I'm not saying it's a good game, I'm just interested in some theories that could come out of it.... Slingshot power maybe?) Castle Crashers Duck Hunt Mario Kart (specifically the items) And here's a theory idea I came up with. Or, rather, something you could make a theory out of. Minecraft Villager economy. Maybe a theory about if the trades really are as bad as players think.
Gnoggin I will admit, this video does a lot because a lot of people call the cranky Kong being the original donkey Kong situation a theory and has even said Nintendo denies anything saying that as canon. Your video proves it isn't a theory. Thanks.
If there ever became a legit crossover between DK Country and Super Mario, I wonder how Cranky will respond to seeing Mario again given that Mario himself was Jumpman in those days?
Maybe D.K. III Tried to enter the family business of barrel throwing, later deciding it wasn't the path for him. Instead becoming a platform game hero.
I don't see any contradictions here. It seems like you were interested by the line "Donkey Kong is up to his old tricks again" but that doesn't necessarily mean its specifically stealing Pauline and tossing barrels. Donkey Kong could just be a notorious trickster
The Mario vs. Donkey Kong Series could be spin offs like the Mario Kart Mario [insert name of sport here], and even Mario Party. Mario vs. Donkey King started with the Donkey Kong gem on the Gameboy, then the one on the Gameboy Advance, and finally the ones on the DS, 3DS, and Wii U.
But in DK64 Cranky referred him as his 'good-for-nothing son' and this is now the official canon, apparently. Also in the GameBoy Donkey Kon Cranky wore that tie. Another thing to mention is that modern DK as baby is Baby Kong as seen in the show- *gets shot*
"In Rare Scribes, it was explained to the writer's knowledge that their Donkey Kong was intended to be an adult Donkey Kong Jr., and requested players to completely ignore instances where Cranky was stated to be his grandfather." Why do we care so much about Donkey Kong canon?
JoeDangIt Yes unless the games where dk fights king k rool had existed in an alternate universe this whole time meanwhile In the universe where mario fight bowser and wario dk is still a villain and still has kidnapped pauline like when he's in games with mario and her like the toy ones
Donkey kong is his own grandfather which means he has no delta brain wave
banana derpington Underrated comment.
+1
So at some point Time Travel needs to happen in a future DK game. This would make sense as to why Donkey Kong III is stupid and immune to the Tiki's hypnotizing music, just like Fry was immune to the the Brains' brainwaves. Might also explain why Cranky Kong resents Donkey Kong, if my past self made such stupid decisions to lead to me becoming my own grandpa, I'd probably hate my younger self too.
he did do the nasty in the pasty
Oh No I actually think donkey kong has always been donkey kong since 81 and diddy kong is dk jr and kranky kong is a new character that was introduced in donkey kong country and when he talks about the arcade games it could just be within there universe not ours
SO MUCH KONGTROVERSY
At least there's no DONGTRAVERSY
Ethan Bixby well, thanks to you, now there is!
Ethan Bixby Expand dongtraversy.
I recall Cranky explicitly referring to DK as his son in DK64 too.
Localization mistake, I'm pretty sure it's grandson in japan
Well then, where is JR in the Country games?
johnnyscifi well, we know there were these "ape wars" thing, which happen after donkey kong arcade, but before DK country, and somewhere between these games donkey kong sr became a cranky old man, and we see baby DK modern in yoshi's island nowhere near his parents.
David Klak but wasnt the DK series made in england
Are all these DK videos driving you bananas? I'd like to ask now, what do you think of the format I've kinda been going for, that being, having a few videos on the same game out around the same time, Like how I had a bunch of PunchOut!! videos near one another, now a bunch of DK ones. I still throw in other ones in between, but still, I want to know what you guys think: Keep a theme for a while, or keep making various ones all over?
Gnoggin This is great, I love Donkey Kong so I'm happy.
Gnoggin The thing is, it's great if you like the game discussed, but if you don't, you have a lot of waiting until you get a series you like.
Gnoggin I believe you like expanding stuff, and that's the only dong I know of.
Gnoggin keep making various ones, varriety is the spice of life after all.
Hero of time Link Mario odyssey already disproves this tho....
Hero of time Link LMAO "time travel"
Brenden Kidd what about both modern donkey kong playing tennis with donkey kong jr in mario tennis 64
i like to pretend that it was mario's father in the original donkey kong game

Got it.
"I hope I've expanded your knowledge." I see what you did there.
Simple to explain.
Cranky in the arcade used a cloning machine to clone himself.
Then the clone used a one-way time machine and lied to Cranky's son (DK's father) and said that he was his son, then just got used to the name DK.
Henry Bui dk the third traveled back in time to be his own grandfather I think this gorilla is a time traveler and smarter then we think
But where does the animated series fit into the timeline?!

So Mario Vs Donkey Kong = non-canon? I would just as to assume so.
Darian Alexander Or... Nintendo just makes fun games firs then worries about continuity second.
Leif Peterson Fair point
Leif Peterson Isn't that why we have canon and non-canon?
Carl B. All Mario games are canon.
There's a MARIO MULTIVERSE. In Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam, characters from different Mario universes cross over. All Mario games are canon, but in different timelines, similar to the Zelda series.
That really expanded my knowledge.

So perhaps that's why the DKC3 GA has the little Cranky Kong Country thing.
all we need is dlc for odyssey where donkey kidnaps Pauline after the darker side and you need to save her
Kongtroversy and Kongtradictions, eh?
in the original arcade game is Donkey Kong Sr (Cranky) and Mario Jumpman Mario Sr (Mario's father)
No, Mario is Jumpman. Nintendo confirmed it countless of times.
So that must mean an adult modern DK is holding, his… *father as a child?*
I’m sorry but this theory just makes no sense to me.
(The Donkey Kong Jr. arcade game itself and Super Mario Kart especially)
Oh yeah, and if you’re still unconvinced, to top it all off there’s also Donkey Kong '94 for the GameBoy, which is also basically a direct prequel to the Mario vs.
Cranky is confirmed to be 1981 DK
I used to think that the intro in donkey Kong country was supposed to trick us into thinking that is donkey Kong who grew really old until we see donkey kong III
Nintendo is great at a lot of things. Continuity isn't one of them.
Blame Rare for lying to Mario fans.
Konggratulations for this new Kongtroversy. You've expanded my knowledge!
I think Dorkly has the best explanation. His states that modern Donkey Kong is actually the original Donkey Kong, but he was thought of as a villain, so Donkey Kongs agent pinned the whole kidnapping on DK's grandfather, and that DK jr. was killed off.
no that's dumb, cranky is the original DK
@@SupportGamin2025 Cranky being the original DK is dumb.
@SupportGaming 2023 Plus, it never makes sense in the beginning.

Jump man= Mario's and Luigi's father
First Donkey Kong= Cranky Kong
First Diddy Kong = Donkey Kong
get your head right! nintendo confirmed that mario and jumpman are the same person
@@maryerivera01 lies
maybe Donkey Kong wanted a chase to get Pauline for him self since he obviously had the heart eyes
In dk 64 rareware fixed that problem and also said in an interview that cranky kong is not dk's grandfather but his father and modern dk is dk jr as an adult.
I say Cranky Kong quit after working so hard in Donkey Kong, he said so too, so he let Donkey Kong lll do it.
Then comes Tropical Freeze and he's right back into the fray.
But wait what about DK '94 on the Game Boy? That had modern DK and DK Jr. together, and it was a first party Nintendo game, which was released to build hype for DKC that same year.
I always believed that modern DK is just DK Jr grown up. This would give him more reason to have a rivalry with Mario
I come from the future. In the future Donkey Kong becomes Cranky Kong's son. Then reverts back to his grandson, then back to his son...... Nintendo loves to retcon..... also for a short while Mario stopped being a plumber..... then became one again...
I think the makers of yoshi’s island ds and Mario vs donkey kong completely forgot about cranky’s existence.
True.
When they say DK Is up to his old tricks again, they're referring to the previous installment of that game on the gameboy, I think
What if jumpman is not Marino but just his father or grandfather
Itz_ZOMB1F13D mario is jumpman
Is it true? Sadly. Would it make sense and fix the giant plot hole? Absolutely.
Sonic: I have a very confusing canon
Mario: Hello there
It's obvious that Jumpman is modern day Mario's father. I thought of this idea before Game theory made the Mario timeline video.
Broadway JR Maybe this is a different Pauline and Mario and her are long lost siblings.
Broadway not all of us take Nintendo at there word. As sometimes they do weird things.

Your game theory thanks for reading
Plus, Baby Rosalina should still be ginger if it involved time traveling.
yeah thats why it's so cool, only mario taught his dad all the moves.
EqDF Spario Otakuenda Or Mario learned from his dad?
actually it's this way...
Cranky is not the 80/94's Donkey Kong
Modern Donkey kong is the same as in the arcade, rare just gave him a new look
and Donkey Kong Jr is Modern DK's son as it appears in mario tennis and double dash
so there we have it
Cranky is Dk's father
Donkey kong is cranky's son
and Donkey Kong jr is modern dk's son
Although I do wonder where DK Jr is while this is all happening.
mario IS jumpman
Mario Osyssey disproves this.
Donkey Kong 94 (Game Boy) implies that the original DK wore a tie too, since that is obviously Cranky, so the tie design could still make sense being Cranky
i just wish someone did a Q&A with miyamoto and asked him about this just so we can hear himself either confirm or deconfirm it.
nintendo has a problem identifying cranky and jr and donkey kong.
That's how I like to explain it all.
jumpman and mario are the same person
My head canon is that donkey Kong jr is just modern day donkey Kong
What if you let us vote on the next theme? That would be cool
but i think this is the family tree but people can think diffrent
cracky kong/donkey kong original them donkey kong jr/ donkey kong now
The first time that any DK has ever appeared with a tie was in the Game Boy game titled "Donkey Kong" that came out in June 1994 (a few months before Donkey Kong Country).
This is what happens when Rare and Nintendo decide different things about the canon... And when Nintendo does spinoffs.
There are some rather simple ways to explain those points:
The Mario we know and love is the same one from the arcade games. Miyamoto confirmed it himself.
Incoming GT fanboys complaining that Jump Man is Mario's father even though MatPat's timeline has more holes than a block of Swiss Cheese.
Oh my god, I died with that little piece of text at the end
I want the Aku in therapy meme with Cranky talking about Mario
Cranky:"It's like he never ages...like ever...like all he did was grow those stupid eyebrows...I feel like he's gonna be here forever..."
MORE DK VIDEOS!! MY KNOWLEDGE AND DONG MUST EXPAND FARTHER WITH DK!!!
Thunderciba Added a bit more info with another theory.
For me, I think that Cranky Kong is the father of the Donkey Kong we know today. The modern Donkey Kong could be DK Jr.
TheGeckoNinja Nah, DK's King of the Jungle in video game canon. In the show he's "Kongo Bongo's Hero".
This was confirmed even before Donkey Kong Country even came out. It is said by a employee in a promotional video for the game
"expanded our knowledge" I see what you did there....
2:04 Correct
Cranky Kong gave birth to Donkey Kong Jr and Donkey Kong Jr gave birth to Donkey.
I think the whole bit of Donkey Kong being "up to his old tricks again" is a reference to the Donkey Kong Game Boy game, not the arcade original. That game features modern DK (albeit an old design, but DK tie present)
The Donkey Kong(GameBoy) is basically a remake of the Donkey Kong Arcade game, not a sequel. Donkey Kong Jr also appears in the game.
Please. There’s an easy explanation to all of this: Donkey Kong III is a time traveler.
Unless the games where donkey kong the third fights king k rool take place in an alternate universe and the regular universe where mario fights bowser and wario donkey kong the third would still a villain and always has been since 81
Old tricks of a Game Boy game called Donkey Kong that is a game where DK kidnapped Pauline and Mario saves her and DK throws barrels.
Which is a remake of the Donkey Kong Arcade game.
Btw thats not the "original arcade tune" that cranky plays in the beginning of dkc. That tune first appeared in the nes PORT of donkey kong
I have possibilities that those are different timelines or isn't canon.
Maybe the Mario vs DK series took place right after the original Dk game. Crankey just decided to wear a tie, a fad his grandson would pick up.
Gnoggin Cranky Kong is both Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Jr's Grandfather plus Donkey Kong Jr. Turns in to Funky Kong
Animal Crossing
Banjo Kazooie
Angry Birds (I'm not saying it's a good game, I'm just interested in some theories that could come out of it.... Slingshot power maybe?)
Castle Crashers
Duck Hunt
Mario Kart (specifically the items)
And here's a theory idea I came up with.
Cranky: *PTSD intensifies*
@@theultimatememelord5494 yeah that sounds about right
They would probably retcon it to be honest
Maybe D.K. III Tried to enter the family business of barrel throwing, later deciding it wasn't the path for him. Instead becoming a platform game hero.
3:43-3:47 what game is that for?
I don't see any contradictions here. It seems like you were interested by the line "Donkey Kong is up to his old tricks again" but that doesn't necessarily mean its specifically stealing Pauline and tossing barrels. Donkey Kong could just be a notorious trickster
You should watch donkey Kong meets with his agent by dorkly it explains everything lol
Cranky has age potion in the tv show.
Maybe next time, there should be a controversy between the Squid Sisters, their family, and their friends.
Im late but maybe modern Donkey heard Cranky's stories and decided to see what it was like.
What if Donkey Kong JR is actually Donkey Kong III? The timeline has no set order.
"In Rare Scribes, it was explained to the writer's knowledge that their Donkey Kong was intended to be an adult Donkey Kong Jr., and requested players to completely ignore instances where Cranky was stated to be his grandfather."
Why do we care so much about Donkey Kong canon?
Could DK have gone back in time to become his own grandfather?
JoeDangIt Yes unless the games where dk fights king k rool had existed in an alternate universe this whole time meanwhile In the universe where mario fight bowser and wario dk is still a villain and still has kidnapped pauline like when he's in games with mario and her like the toy ones
"I hope this expanded your knowledge" lol nice meme m9
