    I really appreciate this video tutorial. Most "sound engineers" ignore mixing instrumentals and individual instruments and only talk about drums, bass, guitar and piano. It really frustrates me because I need to learn about all instruments. Too many also think Hip Hop is the only thing to talk about. How clueless. Great job here. Thanks.

    Very helpful!! I’m new to doing my own recordings (Studio One) and I couldn’t figure out why I was having a hard time getting a better sound on my tenor sax vs my soprano or alto-I kept getting that “muddy” sound and it makes so much sense now...too much low end smh. Thanks so much.

      @@itapsgavzz4980 The DAW should not matter. I use logic pro x myself but a DAW is a DAW. You may want experiment with some different microphones. Or try a bell boost around 200Hz to see if you can thinken this up.

      @@itapsgavzz4980 I use an EMC87 mic (virtual mic clone) for my tenor (I also have the personus m7 which came with my bundle and I have a Shure Sm57 I double with as well primarily for room noise). That gave the best sound for me-(side note I recently got the Shure KSM32 and it didn’t sound as good on my tenor as it does with my alto...that’s going to be my primary alto microphone). I use the presonus audiobox itwo which came with my studio one bundle as well. When it’s all said and done the audiobox iTwo and the ECM-87 virtual mic clone (I tend to use the C12 clone), plus removing the low end (thanks @The Home Recording Network lol) gives me the results I like.

      In my experience you can have two breath problems when recording saxophone. Since I don't know what problem you have I'll give you my experience with both. Hopefully it helps.
      1) If you have breath noise while playing there's a good chance that the saxophonist has air leaking between his/her lips and the mouth piece. This is typical when the saxophonist has been playing for a while and is getting tired. You can't really fix this with the mic position or mix. The only fix I have found to work is getting the saxophonist to better his/her mouth technique.
      2) The other problem is the noise of breathing in between notes. I treath this the same way as breathing during vocals: I either manualy edit it out or remove it automaticly with a plugin like Waves DeBreath.

    Hi there! I'm a saxophonist and I want to start recording better sounding covers. Is a sound card necessary and if yes, which do you recommend. I usually play with a keyboardist and sometimes have a guitarist or violinist accompanying me. Also, can my clip on mic work or is a condenser mic better? Looking forward to your response

    • @HomeRecordingNetwork
      @HomeRecordingNetwork  2 роки тому +1

      Hey there! I’m not sure what you mean by sound card? I have never recorded with a clip on mic so unfortunately I don’t have an answer for you. If you are a beginner it is probably best to keep trying with what you have. But if you want to make an investment in a good microphone the AKG 414’s are great for recording a lot of instruments!

    • @TukeMorgan
      @TukeMorgan 2 роки тому +1

      @@HomeRecordingNetwork a sound card is an audio interface, Behringer makes them, so does roland. Is that better than a mixer? Any pros and cons ?

    • @HomeRecordingNetwork
      @HomeRecordingNetwork  2 роки тому +1

      Ahhh yes. An audio interface is most definitely needed. If you are on a budget, focusrite makes affordable interfaces that work very well. If you have some money to spend, I would look at universal audio Apollo twin. I have the 8 which gives me more preamps but if you are just recording one or two things at a time, the twin is very nice.
