Overseas Russians like Konstantin Ivanov in Bali, Indonesia, are having a hard time getting cash from their bank accounts. Russia is facing its worst economic crisis since the fall of the Soviet Union as the West imposes crippling sanctions on the country’s financial system following its invasion of Ukraine.

What touches me most about the Russian invasion of Ukraine is the outpouring of empathy and support from all sides for the real victims of the war: ordinary people who are just trying to live their lives. I hope that the war will end soon, for everyone's sake.

Yes. Pity the civilians. Dont know who to blame... Ukrainian president Zelensky for wanting to join Nato and putting Nato's missiles along its border with Russia or Putin for invading to prevent Ukraine from putting missiles along its border.
@@mlwee6796 You know that logic is flawed right? Even if NATO wants Ukraine to join, they will never put missiles in Ukraine because the retaliation strike is in mire seconds. Putting missiles in Turkey and Poland makes more of a strategic sense than Ukraine. The Russian can launch missiles into Ukraine at the moment in less than a minute and there is nothing Ukraine can do about it. This operation is more about destroying Ukraine infrastructure and taking control of the oil and natural resources regions that was discovered in 2012. Had Ukraine been left to join EU, they could be another source of energy for EU thus a competitor for Russia which currently enjoy an almost 80-90% monopoly on some EU countries.
90% ordinary russians supports ukraine war. If 50% in russian community wouldnt support war then putin couldnt start war against ukraine. Dont empathy for enemy.
Another perfect example of why sanctions do not affect a country’s Uber wealthy leaders like Putin but the ones who really suffer are ordinary people.

Actually, it affects the wealthy oligarch far more as they cannot buy luxuries anymore. As for the common Russians, they never had luxuries to start with as they earn a little over 600 dollars a month. The food, clothes and shelter will always be there. As for the oligarch rich, they lose all kind of things.

You must have a Plan B, like using Baidu instead of Google search, use WeChat instead of WhatsApp’s, YouKu instead of UA-cam, because you never know when they will sanction you for using US technology and services (USD, SWIFT)

I'm not Russia invasion supporter, but feel sorry for many Russians, they don't have anything to do with the invasion but feel the casualties.

Indonesian here, The Indonesian government does not impose any sanctions towards Russia or Ukraine, as stated by our president, it will only make civillians suffer. For those withdrawals to be declined is from VISA/Mastercard network, not from Indonesian bank.

Tough being stranded to a foreign country without access for money. Can't deal with political affairs rn either way seeing civilians affected negatively due to the conflict is really frustrating.

The solution is, Russian open a local bank account and use Real-time gross settlement (RTGS) to transfer their money from their Russian bank account towards local bank account, because RTGS doesn't need "Visa approval" like debit or credit card does.
Does that charge a fee? Also it seems like a temporary solution. Opening a bank account in every country you visit

Why is Russia being given such severe sanctions where Russian troops are concerned with the Ukrainian people to be careful in invading Ukraine.

That is why I always travel with cash in the local currency where I travel to. And no matter where you go take your everyday bag in case you can't get back to your accommodation say because of natural disaster or civil/international war has affected where you are life is not all beaches and sunshine.
On both end common people suffers. USA funding the war and making weapons market ready. I am proud we kicked VISA out of country and build our own RUPAY. We don't need terrorist American companies in India.

One lesson well learnt is to urgently broaden our options regarding everything. Western companies can block anything at their whims and fancies. Social networking sites ,financing, corporates what not, everything is a potential weapon and we have grown so dependant on these.
The same is true for Asian countries who rely on China's products over there.
In fact, North America also relies heavily on Chinese product exports, especially in tech gadgets and hardware because China is where a lot of manufacturers headed to for cheap labour.
China can easily just halt production of the next iPhone or smart tablet over there and watch what happens to American companies like Apple that rely on those hardwares for sale. In fact, this has already been observed with the latest PlayStation 5 production being slowed due to parts unavailability and it impacted Sony's sales: it was really difficult to find a PS5 in the USA for a while.

As what someone I know said, we need to have another currency that can level up on US Dollar. Things like this happen because we are so dependent on USD. Every country imports and exports using USD. If only oil exporting countries who are not pro US can join an alliance and ask the importers to pay in one of their own currencies, USA's economy will start to fall down. And in the future I hope they will become too powerless to meddle in other country's affairs.

More and more leaders especially those whom US has made enemies with are starting to speak up against them. Yesterday I've watched a speech from Pakistani leader saying to US, "Why do we have to listen to you? We are not your slaves." Such a direct but painful truth.

You only see the victims in Ukraine because some people died, but you don't see the 2 Million people in Crimea who will soon die from thirst and hunger because Ukraine stopped their freshwater supply which is very inhumane thing to do. Media only tells you that this war is all about Ukraine joining NATO. But they don't mention that one of the things that caused it was water war.
