I had to use Scotiabank when I was a intern for them years ago, they forgot to remove the “staff” discount and got free banking for 10 years lol 😂😛 then they figured their mistake and started charging me. Switched to Tangerine 🍊 never had any issues or had to call them and they offer referrals where u get free money if u refer someone. Btw their UI interface is much better compared to Scotiabank.. even though they are the same bank 🤔😂
Hi Good day, I find your vlog very informative and direct to the point but I would just like to ask the following for my further knowledge: 1. How much is the required amount to be deposited for a student and work permit holder? (My wife is an international student and I am an open work permit holder) 2. Do they offer a joint account and if yes, how much is the initial deposit required? 3. For the address (one of the info they needed) does it mean that we should ensure a leased space first before we open since we are planning to stay in an airbnb initially before we look for a suitable space for us along with our dogs? Thanks and God bless!
Hi there! 1. I would check out the current requirements on canada.ca (just type in student proof of funds, and work permit holder proof of funds). It might have changed so I don't want to give you the wrong numbers. 2. Yes they have join accounts, but I don't have one. I don't remember the initial deposit, but I think I only put in several hundred dollars in the beginning. 3. You can give them a temporary address first and later on change it. Just let them know Good luck!
I would like to study in Canada, and i want to have a blocked account for this how do i open their Scofiabank blocked account from my country Africa please???
I´m from Mexico and I heard that HSBC as a bank is a good option since it´s a global bank, and some credit cards can be considered into your credit history in Canada. Not sure how true this is??
I do remember HSBC having a cross-border credit history feature. But I believe it is very limited. It's simply too complicated to transfer credit histories because of different regulations. But based on my experience, it's quite easy to quickly build a very good credit score. I also made a video on how to.
Hi, I am a student living in canada. I have a bookmyforex card. It has mobey in it and I am not able to withdraw it from scotia bank machines. Do you have any information about it that can help me?
Thank you! I can't say for sure, but it took around an hour end-to-end. I found this long compared to my experiences in Indonesia where opening a simple account would take 15 minutes. But it could just be because it was a new staff.
Yes you can, but only at selected ATMs. According to Scotiabank's websites: "Scotiabank is a member of the Global ATM Alliance so you pay no surcharge or access fees when you withdraw cash at select bank ATMs around the world."
Hi, I was wondering because currently I am in the process of transferring university and I would like to ask for your opinion. I am trying to get a bank account in Canada but unfortunately I cannot do it online until I receive my study permit, therefore I would have to go to Canada first before I have the option for applying for a Canadian bank. Do you think I should carry physical money to Canada once I get there or should I just wait until I get a canadian bank account and transfer the amount of money I have from my old one to the Canadian one.
I would definitely bring cash. There is a limit though so make sure you check that. When we moved to Canada, we brought a few thousand in cash, and also had 1-2 credit cards each. That was sufficient for the first 2 weeks until we set up our bank account. Then, when your bank account here is set up, you can transfer more money over. Hope this helps!
@@LivinginCanada Thank you for your response, I also have another question. My current destination is Victoria and I was wondering do most airports have some sort of bank branch there? From what I've heard about the major banks, I believe that Scotiabank is one of the best choices for me.
I'm not aware of any full bank branches at airports, you would need to google that. I'd say, it's not too late to settle down for a few days and then open the account. That's what I did!

That’s so great! Lol. I also use tangerine and like them, might make a video on that too!
Also, if you apply for the Student Banking Advantage Plan, and then you graduated, you can get a free year with a regular chequing account.
Good to know!

I'd check with scotiabank directly. I would also just open a local bank account and their card which makes transactions much easier.
Hi there, love your videos what do you mean it took them forever. 4:27. How long did it take?

@@LivinginCanada thanks for your reply. This maybe weird but I actually thought you meant days/months haha.
Which credit card does the scotiabank student plan have?
@@nicolascancelado8877 One is one isn't. Don't get it though, go with Tangerine. Significantly higher earning potential.

Hi, if I go back to my country Can I pull out money from chequing and savings from the ATM?
Yes you can, but only at selected ATMs. According to Scotiabank's websites: "Scotiabank is a member of the Global ATM Alliance so you pay no surcharge or access fees when you withdraw cash at select bank ATMs around the world."
Cant see the link of the other credit card you mentioned not related to the bank.
Thanks for mentioning that, for now I put the link here and in the descriptions! ua-cam.com/video/PJnAIISsEQk/v-deo.html
