Maybe Caterpillar sees an opening for a high-quality high-dollar pickup truck as opposed to all the low-quality high-dollar pickup trucks currently being offered.
I want International to come back, building no-frills pickups, Scouts, and Travelers. Scout is making a comeback in a few years as an electric vehicle. The Scout name is owned by Volkswagen as an independent stand alone company. Highly doubtful they will be offering the Scout you seek.
International screwed up their diesel engines ever since they tried to make the DT466 emissions compliant. They became navistar and now they make complete garbage. No thanks.
Yes. The days of the old 80s little ranger, s10, Yota, Mazda, etc pickups. Little 4 bangers that were fun to whip around, manual tranny, 2wd, and could get some air on railroad tracks in
Scotty: If a Caterpillar pickup was anything near as rugged and reliable as their commercial equipment, they would sell a pile of them -- especially to contractors, tradesman, and others who are tired of paying high dollars for so-called "Cowboy Cadillacs".
For a good 30 years of my life the prudent "Financial Rule of Thumb" for buying a NEW Car was to pay no more than 25% of your Gross Annual Income. So now you expect people to afford to pay 200% of gross annual income ($100,000 pickup trucks) for a new car / truck?? That is a DISASTER waiting to happen. Something has to give!!
As for the mpg segment. In my state driving under 40mph on a highway can get you locked up. Thus driving 38 on the highway is not only impossible due to everyone and their short tempers but also because it's illegal!
Anything can be illegal in the eyes of the uneducated cross eyed peacekeepers. More important, Scotty hands flailing rapidly while he talks is very captivating.
"A pickup truck is a light or medium duty vehicle with an enclosed cab and an open cargo bed in the back" The actual definition of "pick up truck".... 🤷
@@TheRealGOTdurrrred They are bought mostly by posers who do not haul anything but just want to buy a big vehicle. Worst of all they are gas guzzlers that contribute to climate change.
I worked at a Caterpillar dealer for about 30 years as a certified truck service technician and supervisor. The “Navicat”, as we called it was a P.O.S. It had Caterpillar emblems and that’s about all that was from Caterpillar. They will NOT be making a pickup unless they can just slap their name on someone else’s truck.
I vividly remember (over 40 years ago) my first driver's education class where the instructor said: "the most important thing to remember if you remember nothing else, is to go with the flow of traffic and not be a hinderance to others on the highway.... or you will cause an accident" Wise words...unless you're trying to set a record for MPG.
My brother works for Caterpillar..he talked to management executives and they said its not going to be built.. there's no infrastructure for it anyway...
If I needed a pick-up, and Caterpillar was making them.. I'd test drive it.... but my 2003 F-150 only has 300,000 miles on it. So it won't be any time soon.
The number I heard was a base msrp of 65 000$ with 1 engine option: V8. They would be the only manufacturer to offer a V8 at that point. That’s 10k under ford.
Caterpillar once made *THE BEST* diesel engines for class 8 semi tractors until the feds forced Diesel Exhaust Fluid on the trucking industry and Cat stopped producing the C-16 for semis. I don't care about the pickup, but I'd sure love for them to resurrect the C-16.
My brother had an International Scout back in the 70's early 80's , there's not an original body panel on it ,but the motor transmission and drive train is original ,my nephew still drives it to this day.
@@subjectofgov it would only be quick if you lived close on a dirt road. Or you had a 1971 scout ll like I had for a while . It had a 345 cid V8 . My other Scout was 80 90HP . I remember driving it on I-80 from Laramie WY to Arlington WY in a blizzard with my buddies and the highway was closed. It had the vacuum windshield wipers and any time I would lift off the gas they would slow down or stop and the heater was as good as the one in my VW :-) But we made it no problem . I do wish I had them both back though.
Driving from Jefferson City Mo. 👋🏻 to Columbia Mo. (25 miles on a divided highway) at 39 mph would be almost certain death ☠️ or at least serious injuries.
I go 70mph all the time with the same prius and I get around 65mpg. Lifetime economy for it is 54.3 but I did a lot of idling when I first got it as I went to month long training program when I first got my new job. The highest I ever got was 73.4. The reason is I draft trucks all day. Drafting can increase fuel economy by up to 35% and I am getting around 20% better than rated.
...........in Southern California, many times, objects suddenly 'appear' from semi truck trailers passing 'over', wood, tire retreads, ladders, two wheel hand carts, pieces of furniture...and the ever occasional deep pot holes
Drafting will catch up to you sooner or later. Very dangerous. Not due to sudden stops, but when they run over something and it kicks up, you can’t respond quick enough and you will get smashed with something. Rocks, bricks, boards, retreads.etc….
@georgenovotny4421 the prius has four different braking systems. You have the disks, the regenerative, engine braking, and emergency braking. It can stop faster than nearly anything else. I'm not worried about not stopping in time. I more worry about people tailing me. And I take the same route every day and know there aren't any potholes. The only real negative to drafting is rock chips but I wasn't really planning to sell the car. Plan to use it till it dies. There is the slight risk of a tire exploding, but that's even a risk without drafting them. Your reaction won't be fast enough either way. Plus I drive to and from Jersey city. The trucks coming from Jersey are extremely unlikely to have exploding tread as Jersey is where they came from. They haven't traveled far enough to heat them up.
@@Skylancer727😂😂😂 you are doing the complete opposite of is right. You should always minimize driving next to trucks, for multiple reasons. Your obsession will backfire on you one day (or night) as the others said. Good luck.
@@CannibalOX99 it's admitted here in the news those pollution additives do lesson mileage. However, point being my full size truck can get decent mileage.
back in the late 70's I worked at a Ford garage and Pinto was bragging about the great mileage, so we jacked up a Pinto on the front sidewalk all 4 wheels wheels off the ground, we had a 1 gal gas can hooked up to it so people could see that there was only 1 Gal, we started the car put it 4th gear and let it idle until it ran out of gas, and it came up to 60 miles + per gal and people were impressed that it would get such great mileage.
That’s what they said about the Cat eighteen wheeler’s a few years ago except nobody ever bought one. You’re still flapping your wings but you’ve still not left the ground, too bad.
Scotty what do think about President Trumpc plan to make the interest pay on car financing deductible. It sounds like a great way to stimulate the mark for built in American cars.
Caterpillar quit putting their diesel engines in over the road trucks because it was not profitable or they could not meet emission standards, so I doubt they are going to put their diesel engines in a half ton, 3/4 ton or even a 1 ton pickup truck😂
I doubt they will jump into the pickup truck market. Fun Fact, Mack trucks at one time in their history, made pickup trucks. Every once in a while you might see one at an antique car show.
What planet are you living on the landscapers and bricklayers and plumbers and people in hard Blue collar work don't need trucks ? they need trucks but the Auto industry is not catering to them it's catering to the sissy government worker that wants to drive a pickup truck
Honestly if there’s part and maintenance overlap I can see any company with CAT equipment changing fleet trucks to CAT trucks to cut and consolidate costs.
Here in MO the posted minimum speed on the highways is 40mph and I'm sure most if not all States are the same. He probably did 40mph and found the mileage wasn't as good, but going to far below would be dangerous and risk of tickets, so 39mph it is.
Caterpillar has a gigantic gap to fill in truck market. No-nonsense simple trucks. Just AC, electric windows, good, near indestructible traditional 6-speed auto-box, simply reliable and easy to maintain. They would sell millions of them in the US. Since the competition is over complicated unreliable crap or extremely expensive. In the car market, same gaps are also there from the very small to the big cars.
Fun Fact. Caterpillar makes a giant dump truck for mining, that has a payload capacity of 410 tons. The CAT 798 AC has an engine with well over 4,000 horsepower!!!!! I believe the price tag is around 5 or 6 million US dollars.
I saw a UA-cam vid recording stating they ARE going to make a Pick Up, and it will cost $10K. IF they they make one at that price I WILL look at one. I might even buy one. And I hope the quality is good.
I used to work at the Yella God in EP Illinois…..trust me the quality of the brand was vastly overblown! Decades ago they were the be all end all, but when the bean counters took over the quality went off the cliff!
😂back in the 90s I was shuttling rail road workers around the 5 state area. But one day the boss sent me out in a Chevy passenger van.. to s. Dakota.. and there wasn't a gas card in it... and it was winter. I crawled that thing back at about 30.. all the way. No cruise.😅😂😅
This seems like the perfect truck for massive contractors that use Cat equipment already. They could offer discounts (like they already do for the larger parts) but instead for there trucks. Lowering costs as well.
@@Oldschoolrules123He is talking about which control activated what function. CAT uses SAE pattern, Deere uses ISO pattern. The patterns can be changed by the user on each piece of equipment. It is operator preference and in a mixed fleet can reduce confusion to have all the different brands with the same pattern.
It was thought that away about International Harvester but they did get into making the Scout for a short time. It was somewhat successful. There’s some people that think if IH was to bring it back it could probably have a better chance of being a profitable. I don’t see any reason why If Cat was to get into building pickup trucks that they shouldn’t.
I have a feeling Cat is looking at the sticker price on a new pickup hitting $100k and know they can make a better truck and a good profit margin. It's a pickup. It's easier than everything else they do.
Watching your channel is like being immersed in a fun world of laughter and hilarity. Continue to amaze and inspire us with your quality entertainment!💍🎯⌚️
I heard about the Toyota Hilux Champ but I haven't dug into it deeply since I can't have one here unless it's 15 years old anyway. If it's as customizable as I'm told I'd get one with just AC and radio and leave out all the rest of the modern garbage I hate.
If they do make something... The US does not need a other uber price inflated truck. If they are going to do it and all they do is out another 80-100k truck on the market then they're doomed. And they deserve to be. No one wants another $100,000 truck. Can almost get that expensive industrial equipment for that cost.
Boeing knows it’s too big to fail, it knows it can’t go out of business otherwise the airline industry would be waiting 15 years for new jets, if it were all left to Airbus, Boeing knows the federal government would never let it fail.
I just want a reliable pick up for 25k . Solid v6 or v8 option that has the reliability of a 90’s pickup . I like automatic , power windows , shift lever not a knob, and AC and heat eveything else can be basic . And option to come in leather or carpet no matter the truck
We work on cat at work. I've seen what their engineers have came up with. That would be a hard pass. They have a tendency to kill themselves in the calve train, sling rods or eat turbos. I'll stay away.
Thank you so much Scotty for your Hard Work and Contant. I've learned so much of your channel. It kept me from making mistakes or teaching me what not to do. I just Wanna Say Thank You!
If it does happen i can see it being a limited edition truck via one of the big 3 companies. Most likely a car diesel engine custom interior and paint.
A cat branded f150, like how ford slaps Harley Davidson edition on a pick up. Would be cool though. Cat diesel, cat brand, all yellow. They should do a Tonka version too.
They may do a themed truck with an existing manufacturer/////like Harley Davidson did with Ford. I could see them doing a commercial pick up with IH. But remember, CAT got out of the commercial trucking business because of emissions. Granted they've figured it out, but they'd be starting from scratch!
High mpg like that Prius isn't impossible. Audi had a diesel version of their A2 model that could do over 100 mpg. If Caterpillar doesn't build their own pickup, they could always build engines for other manufacturers as an option like what Cummins did for Ram.
CAT also makes tough work cell phones. Or at least puts their name on them. I buy them. Cheap, no frills, good batteries and no need for OtterBox. They are waterproof and drop proof. So I could see them getting involved in something like this.
The company that made CAT branded phones is out of business. They are tough phones, but CAT never manufactured them. The company only had a merchandising agreement with CAT to use the name and logo in their products.

In fair weather conditions, the speed MINIMUM on interstate highways is 45, below that flashers must be on.
So "Caterpillar's New Truck Just Killed the Ford F-150" is not true.
Every time a video opens on this channel things are either getting killed, bankrupt, shocking the industry or terrible news.
Just like old soldiers, the old toyotas just..... f a d e.......a w a y......
Look up the definition for hyperbole 🤪
“Or he’s going to buy one of these” Scotty has a garage like jay leno
The number I heard was a base msrp of 65 000$ with 1 engine option: V8. They would be the only manufacturer to offer a V8 at that point. That’s 10k under ford.
Pic of truck
My local ring power showed me this when I was there picking up parts for equipment. Can’t wait to see if it actually comes out
Caterpillar once made *THE BEST* diesel engines for class 8 semi tractors until the feds forced Diesel Exhaust Fluid on the trucking industry and Cat stopped producing the C-16 for semis.
I don't care about the pickup, but I'd sure love for them to resurrect the C-16.
Internatianal built some very good pickups. Wish i had one.
My brother had an International Scout back in the 70's early 80's , there's not an original body panel on it ,but the motor transmission and drive train is original ,my nephew still drives it to this day.
@@j.robertsergertson4513but probably not down the highway, I had one .
Hard to find certain parts
Nowadays.
@@MichaelKuczynski-u7o
Lol , you're correct , it's highway days are done except for a quick trip to the feed store.
My 4 cylinder 2018 Focus averages 43 mpg at 65 mph
If it was diesel you'd prolly get 60+
I thought I was special and cool getting 34.2 mpg. It’s still better than my last car though
It's easy to get super-high mileage over a short distance: start at the top of a hill, keep the engine off, and end at the bottom.
Driving from Jefferson City Mo. 👋🏻 to Columbia Mo. (25 miles on a divided highway) at 39 mph would be almost certain death ☠️ or at least serious injuries.
Cat stopped making over the road motors long time now, cant handle the emissions, don't want to
I go 70mph all the time with the same prius and I get around 65mpg.
Good luck.
Remember Scotty we’re in our 70s and before all these major highways were the back roads were 30 miles or 39 miles an hour pretty fast lol
If I had to go from LA to NY with a very limited amount of resource and a unlimited amount of time. Its cool to know it could be done.
That's what they make Greyhound for.🚍
I work at caterpillar. This is all news to me.
You must be new to this channel 😂
my employer makes parts for cat. have not heard of it. no samples were made.
I travelled across America in early 2023 with my 2002 F-150 2wd 4.6 litre V8 and got my best mileage on central Texas gas @ 71 mph getting 21.5 mpg.
Yea cuz its flat right?
@@CannibalOX99 sort of flat, flatter than AZ for sure. AZ gas has all kinds of additives for pollution and ruins gas mileage.
@CarportCarl I see, I live by the Sierra mountains n god damn, I get like 12 MPG's haha. Love my truck tho.
They did the same with semi tractors years ago. Cat loves to see their name on stuff. 🤠
Scotty what do think about President Trumpc plan to make the interest pay on car financing deductible. It sounds like a great way to stimulate the mark for built in American cars.
My brother programs the displays for the mining trucks and tractors. He said if they were making a pickup truck, he’d have heard about it by now.
Caterpillar quit putting their diesel engines in over the road trucks because it was not profitable or they could not meet emission standards, so I doubt they are going to put their diesel engines in a half ton, 3/4 ton or even a 1 ton pickup truck😂
They stopped making engines for semi trucks a while ago
Scotty, your channel is just about my favorite. Keep it going, good sir!
Here comes the yellow submarine 🎵
I doubt they will jump into the pickup truck market. Fun Fact, Mack trucks at one time in their history, made pickup trucks. Every once in a while you might see one at an antique car show.
if they averaged 40mph doing the stop and go scenic route like route 40 and 66 it's not a bad overall rate
Rumor has it that Caterpillar is going to partner with Toyota to make a heavy duty pickup
thats not gonna be cheap lol
No, but it should be damn reliable lol@sebg2086
Then it's already doomed. Toyota can't even make a good light duty truck anymore.
Cat makes alot of parts for toyota actually. Used to work for cat running screw machines. Wouldn't surprise me at all.
@ISuckAtCOD1 i still work for CAT AND THEY ARE NOT BUILDING A PICKUP
Making a 450/550+ size with GMC would be pretty neat.
98% of pickup truck drivers dont need a diesel. Or even a truck.
98% of comments, including this one, are irrelevant, as people are free to live as they choose.
A caterpillar truck would be available in any color as long as its yellow
They would push a ev off the road before they exploded 😂
I believe the price tag is around 5 or 6 million US dollars.
i get 92 mpg on my Honda XR150L driving it to work and back every day put 4000 miles on it in the last year and i run 45 to 50 mph most of the time
Prove it.
Caterpillar is looking to find new markets. They’re making kind of crappy power tools too.
I saw a UA-cam vid recording stating they ARE going to make a Pick Up, and it will cost $10K. IF they they make one at that price I WILL look at one. I might even buy one. And I hope the quality is good.
Vaporware dream.
@@WALTERBROADDUS Whatever. Caterpillar said they'll do it. But I won't hold my breath.
I used to work at the Yella God in EP Illinois…..trust me the quality of the brand was vastly overblown! Decades ago they were the be all end all, but when the bean counters took over the quality went off the cliff!
A local sand pit had 6 Cat triaxle dumps and less than a year they traded them in for peterbuilts
Rebadged F-150 says what?
CAT
😆
😂back in the 90s I was shuttling rail road workers around the 5 state area. But one day the boss sent me out in a Chevy passenger van.. to s. Dakota.. and there wasn't a gas card in it... and it was winter. I crawled that thing back at about 30.. all the way. No cruise.😅😂😅
americanme.
Wondering, what is the five states ( hard to guess ) ?
This seems like the perfect truck for massive contractors that use Cat equipment already. They could offer discounts (like they already do for the larger parts) but instead for there trucks. Lowering costs as well.
I remember 10 or 15 years ago they were going to put there diesel in Toyota tundra’s
This guy is one of the greatest things on you tube!
We always switched CATs to John Deere controls, under the floor. We were always welding teeth back on the buckets as well.
What are you even talking about.😂
@@Oldschoolrules123 305 to 330 excavators. ever run one? its awesome.
@@ThomasWBaldwin Too bad that you didn't answer my original question. You switched Cats to John Deere controls. What are you even talking about???????
Caterpillar pulled out of OTR truck engines. They had difficulty hitting the emissions standards I can’t imagine they would get into making pickups.
Yes it would make sense right now while Ford Chevy Toyota Ram are sucking ash with recalls and insane pricing. I need a Cat pickup at this point!
2:50 EV's mandated in California by 2035 while California police are saying EV's will not work for them !
When you "ring that bell!" it so reminds me of Chicago in the winter of 73-74. I was in Great Lakes Navy "A" school
I remember when Cat made semi trucks, they came and went like the wind!

im a tradesman.
if they made a truck i would move mountains to get one.
i drive a 89 ford 350 with a cat engine swap daily for 18 years.
So enjoyable, great commentary sir.
I saw the CAT. Pick up towing the new Harley Davidson PU up the Creek near my double parked U-boat just this morning 😮
Seems like cars are still set to the standard of best mpg at 55 . Final drives should be set for modern speeds for us to get better mpg.
Interesting on these mpg tests cause 38 mph is a ticketable offense. The lowest mph on any US highway is 45.
Cat truck? My first thought was, "I want one!" Then I remembered I can't even afford a used Yugo.😢
The pensions are meger and they have a huge old age problem....to many old people not enough young workers, they are in dire straights.
If it does happen i can see it being a limited edition truck via one of the big 3 companies. Most likely a car diesel engine custom interior and paint.
I’d be interested in a Cat pickup truck
Cat is just going to do a license deal and make something similar to the ford tonka truck. It's just going to be a fun trim
A cat branded f150, like how ford slaps Harley Davidson edition on a pick up. Would be cool though. Cat diesel, cat brand, all yellow. They should do a Tonka version too.
Hey Scotty, no way cat will make a small diesel truck, they left the large truck engine market because they could not make epa emissions
Fun fact, the 1975 Cadillac Eldorado had a 500ci Caterpillar engine.
caterpillar made a beautiful inline 6 diesel engine. a smaller version in a pickup truck would be great. especially if the reliability was there.
These big rig companies have the reputation. A peterbuilt or a international purpose built f150 would be epic
CAT made semi trucks throughout the 2010s. They were relatively successful.
CAT is the ford of equipment, Komatsu is the toyota of equipment....u catch my drift?
