He just made presentations ten times simpler and easier to understand than any other tutorial or instructions I've seen on the subject. Definite thumbs up. And yes. We do have Haynes manuals in the U.S..

I will probably never use this but I did find it very interesting.
And YEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!! I am so glad someone experienced with this finally said something about how some of the features and workflow is completely non-intuitive/arcane!
My biggest beef with a lot of software is how the makers seem to have absolutely no clue as to what it is like trying to figure out stuff like this!
    Thank you!

Nice video. You probably already know this, but when moving an object in the ipn environment, you don't have to grab an arrow head on the triad. You can put your cursor out in the open and drag in the direction that you want the object to move. Oh, in the US, there are Haynes manuals in every auto store around. Keep up the good work Neil...

Yea I found that advising people to put the cursor in the open resulted in temperamental behavior, their hand could ever so slightly move the mouse upwards before pulling in the desired direction which resulted in the wrong axis direction being locked... it happened on literally every single training course. Which is frustrating as you have to then cancel the whole thing and restart, new users just can't grasp why and how. Also I found that people, if not clicking the arrow heads, would click 'over or on top of' a part in the view which then instead of setting the direction, adds that component to the tweak. Basically I found that method was too irritating and prone to accidents! So I tend to not tell people that's an option, use the arrow heads or directly enter the direction and distance into the dialog box. But I guess once someone understands the quirks then can work around them :) And thanks for watching too, really appreciate it!

Yes, I can understand what you're saying about the way people learn things. I've tried it both ways and always find myself slowing down to get right on the arrow head. I guess it's all what you get used to. You make some pretty good videos Neil, and I appreciate you taking the time to share your knowledge. Take care...

Has enough changed with this video to consider an upgraded video? I use these presentations on an occcasional basis in my day-to-day work routine. (We do have Haynes manuals in the states!)

Can you make a component follow some silly path? Like an arc or a helix?

I have been given the task by my company to create our shop drawings in Inventor instead of
using only AutoCad. Do you have any suggestions on how I can layout the rebar in concrete beams?

When you have one assembly exploded, and another assembly is a look a like can you reuse the first exploded view. And where is the auto-explode comand in 2017 and 2020? Can somebody help me?

What I like to do with presentation files is to select a bunch of parts at once, move them out, then hold Shift and click on the part I want to stay put in that position, drag the rest out, Shift-click on another piece, drag the rest, etc.
Also, you can set the select preference to "Assembly" instead of "Part" and grab a whole subassembly in one go IF (this is a very big if) you pick the subassembly BEFORE starting the tweak command.

Yep I consciously exclude some details in my videos to keep things simple and the videos as short as I can, if I went over every single option they would be even looooonger videos! :) But feel free to post additional stuff like this so people can read up, and do tell me if you think I miss something really important, I genuinely make these videos up as I go along with zero prep haha so I may miss the odd thing here and there!

CloudCAD Ltd I really enjoy your videos. I like the relaxed mood, like you're talking to friends. Could you do one showing how to place iProperties from parts in the title block? Or in the BOM?

    • @Neil3D
      @Neil3D  10 років тому

Pierre Marcotte Woo thanks, we're all friends, we're all in it together! ;) iProperties from parts into the title block, like show which iProperties? Most of the important ones already show by default, same with the BOM. Which iProperties and I'll see what I can do!

CloudCAD Ltd Well you made my day day Ninja by just saying it was bollocks..lol,it reminds me of when you go into 3d sketch as I do use that other Cad program too..I wont mention it but when you have spent a fair bit of time in both you can see why the other one seemed to be ahead of the game for a long time but I love Inventor,my first 3d venture..wont talk about autocad as that was bollocks.Be looking for your take 2016 on the t-spline tools or freeform!!we all know where they came from.=)

Why I subscribed and love your videos. Your frankness, "ridiculous units". As an engineer, it drives me insane when I see imperial. wtf is pounds per sq inch. it sounds retarded. What the hell is 1/16"? Imperial units sucks.
