That's one of the hardest things to do with any album of any genre, but Dre has done a a few times now, he's one of the best producers of all time, not just in hip hop but in music. Period.

This Album bring back a lot of memories. I remember calling into work the day this album dropped and going to pick it up at Wherehouse records back when that record store was around. I remember waiting for my boy Mike to get out of work (R.I.P) and we would sit down in his basement and blaze up while listening to this album from start to finish. Chronic 2001 is sonically better than the first Chronic. The way he used Mel Man, Royce, Knoc-Turnal, Scott Storch was crazy. My top five from this album go: Housewife Light Speed Let's Get High Ackrite Next Episode Not to mention Hittman had some of the best verses on the whole album and then to go on tour in the Summer of 2000 to support the album! Sheesh!
Dope video!!🍻 Bro I still listen to 2001 today. Ive always wondered about the Housewife track. It was originally recorded for Kurupts album as Hos a housewife. If you listen to both versions it sounds like they re-recorded the song for Dre album. Speaking as a fan they both sound similiar but to keep it real everybody verse sound better on Kurupts album.
This video is very informative and worth a few more watches! I like both Chronic albums. The first the reason I like it is because the songs got that funky party vibe, added with undeniable bounce. Chronic 2001 for me is more cenematic dark and a little laid back in the production process. Both albums just makes you want to either dance or zone out!
This album stayed in my 💿 CD player in the the 1st chamber and I played it EVERY SINGLE MORNING and would open all of my windows in the warmer months blasting it on 10 waking up my neighbors ha ha ha 😂🎉😂🎉😂🎉❤❤❤.
It came out as I was a freshman in college! Such an awesome time, and it was our soundtrack, so to speak. Side note, the MM LP had already came out that spring, and I’m embarrassed to admit this now, but since Em was a white rapper, I kind of dismissed him, and didn’t really listen to it or give him a chance. But then, when I heard Forgot about Dre, Em’s parts blew my socks off!! I was like, this is literally the best rapper I’ve ever heard! Been an Em fan ever since!
The first rap album I ever listened to "In Full" and on repeat Was Chronic 2001, This album was the start of me being a hiphop head 2nd was😮 Hot boys Guerilla Warfare, 🔥
I gotta say bro I appreciate the work you put into these videos. I can tell you do a lot of research cause I know most of this stuff but it took me years of watching and reading shit, plus you got unheard demos I've never come across and whatnot, I definitely appreciate your hard work. also you delivery when you talk has improved and I can just tell you're a big fan so thats wussup, glad we got you on youtube so its not just all the weird white kids who dont know what they're talking about lol.
I was 11 when I snuck thos album home. Idk wtf they were talking about, but I was in love with the beats. It was nothing I've ever heard before. I literally thought at that age that the word chronic was the title they give rappers for having good music. I had no idea till someone explained it to me.
The album is legendary fo sho 💫 I didn't realize all the verses that were written for Dre, but that's some dope collaborative collective type shii. The song Forgot about Dre is what changed my life and got me on that Eminem tip #ThankYouDre #whoopwhoop 🤙🔥
I lived in Pittsburgh for years and was in tune with the music scene. A lot of that album as done by east coast artists like Sam Sneed, Mel Man, Jay Z, Joe Beast both production and writing credits. You could dive wayyyy deeper but could insight.
I was just young&free back then. X-plosive, The Watcher, what's the difference, Still D.R.E, forgot about Dre top 5 tracks. every morning back then to start my day💯👑
I had to go back and listen to the original version it was a beast it's like it warms you up for the keep your head ringing if it was going to be on that album both of those songs are party starters 😎
Im glad u made this video!🔥🔥 as my propic says this my fav hiphop album of all time! All tracks are great but if I had to share my top 5 it'd be 1. Still D.R.E. 2. Fuck You 3. Xxplosive 4. What's The Difference 5. Forgot About Dre peace!🔥🔥🔥
I was about to say "how could you have missed that 'The Next Episode' was a reference to 'Nuthin' But A G Thang'?" but then I remembered that I just realized the other day that the name of the band Raydio is a play on leader Ray Parker Jr.'s name haha!
Some shit you missed was not talking about how Lord Finesse produced The Message. Also, Dre got sued for using the THX noise on the Lolo intro, but I don't think the lawsuit went anywhere cause Dre was able to show that he recreated the sound and didn't directly sample it.
An unsorted batch of some info not mentioned in the video. There's a bunch of tracks that surfaced from his 1996 "Papa got a brand new bag" sessions including that smoking weed and OG Dre solo "California Love". Probably the album was supposed to have more Dre solo joints as "Been there, done that" and "Keep the heads ringing on" were also solo joints, which normally is very rare for Dre. OG "the next episode" was indeed a leftover from Snoop's "Doggystyle" album. It was most likely cut at the very end of the album's development as it's still printed on the tracklist on the album's first pressing with "G's up, H's down". Because of the nature and quality of the sound the OG version sound very haunting and i absolutely love it. I always thought "The Watcher", which is my favourite track off the album, was written by Nas. It's because i never really found Em to be "street" introspective (diff to general introspectiveness), which is something that Nas excels at. I believe the album took a hard turn around mid 1998 when Em, X & Storch were added to the team. Before that apparently the theme for the album was sort of a continuation of the creepy futuristic style Dre had under Sam Sneed in the mid 90's. Around 2 years ago a tape surfaced with a batch of demo joints including possibly the earliest track for the album called "Airwave Terrorists" and possibly the very first variant of the "What's the difference". It was back, when Melman, Hittman & Diezel were the main guys behind the album. All of "What's the difference" versions have a different Dre verse. Technically if you combined all of them you would achieve a Dre solo joint. There's an unrecognizeable amount of unreleased and never seen stuff off this album. Possibly the most known is "Malibu Dre", which was supposed to be the first single before "Still Dre" was finished. There's also a theory that some joints from Snoop's "No Limit Top Dogg" album were early leftovers from 2001 album. Snoop's album was released in mid 99, so a couple of months before 2001.
Last time i listened to "The Watcher" was quite some time ago and i wrote that part from memory. I decided to relisten to it and i admit i can hear Eminem all over the place. I always liked the tight yet bumpy stuff more so things like the aforementioned watcher, "Murda Ink" etc are more in my lane than Xplosive etc.
I'm from the west of Ireland where are fighting with the Southside at the moment "Westside Till I Die" The Chronic is one of why top 5 albums respect from🇮🇪👍🏿
I was 12 in sum kids home early smoking days n this was the soundtrack after nwa Dre returning with snoop and the whole death row movement was a big moment even here in London
That album was ok but after coming up on that first chronic it just wasn't the same. I think it was because it was my first time hearing Nate/daz/kurupt/rbx etc. That chronic 1 was sick , still in my top 5
I think Nas wrote it.. Nas is also known to rhyme bars inside of bars Ny state of mind is a perfect example and on top of that Jay Z literally said get wrapped up in plastic when it happens that’s it ..in the takeover .. which was a Nas dis🤷🏿♂️
I have been looking for that beat about 7 mins in, only heard it once live as they performed g thang in 1995 . The best with Dogg gone at the beginning preceded by a scoody do sample … where can I find it ?
Blessings. It took you long enough. Ha. Thank you for the West Coast OG's that hold down the most. Afro G64 LP village 🌟❤️. Microphone check one 9 two. Aftermath Dre.
The Chronic 2001 and The Chronic is like night and day. As a guy who isn’t a fan of east coast rappers, I was like, how did Dre fall off? His last album was The Chronic.

BBQS AT PARKS LA CULTURE....This is why i would have to say my best track is LOLO (Intro) when the album played for the first time it was like a movie co starring Xzibit and everybody was excited that we had Xzibit on the team....that intro its self made it known that this album is gonna be fucking hard....everybody was happy....ill never forget....people where happy that Dre went back to what we and the world loved and thats CALIFORNIA CULTURE.........AND THAT LOLO INTRO WAS THE MONIKER THE BATMAN SYMBOL THAT CALIFORNIA IS BACK WITH GOOD MUSIC FOR THE WORLD ........I NEVER PLAY THIS ALBUM WITHOUT PLAYING THE INTRO FIRST .....
Good Job just listening to this podcast every song you mention it took me back to what I was doing and I remember every song vividly as you mentioned it I could just picture something I was doing back then it was crazy took me back down memory lane
Chronic 2001 is sonically better than the first Chronic. The way he used Mel Man, Royce, Knoc-Turnal, Scott Storch was crazy. My top five from this album go:
Housewife
Light Speed
Let's Get High
Ackrite
Next Episode
Not to mention Hittman had some of the best verses on the whole album and then to go on tour in the Summer of 2000 to support the album! Sheesh!
Nah
The first chronic was way better, sorry
Let’s Get High is super underrated

Dope video!!🍻 Bro I still listen to 2001 today. Ive always wondered about the Housewife track. It was originally recorded for Kurupts album as Hos a housewife. If you listen to both versions it sounds like they re-recorded the song for Dre album. Speaking as a fan they both sound similiar but to keep it real everybody verse sound better on Kurupts album.
The production is so much more polished on 2001 tho… I love both versions tho and that kurupt album goes hard
i still listen to this album i grew up too it
Despite being born in 2001 I bumped this shit religiously. 18 years later I got the weed emblem and 2001 tatted on my rib cage
So incredible to see them wearing the Pirates gear while making a classic. Pittsburgh up!
Every hip-hop fan had this album
The first rap album I ever listened to "In Full" and on repeat Was Chronic 2001, This album was the start of me being a hiphop head
2nd was😮 Hot boys Guerilla Warfare, 🔥
I love how you do albums that people have loved and still listen too
I gotta say bro I appreciate the work you put into these videos.
This video deserves an hour but I'm not mad at it 🔥
The album is legendary fo sho 💫
I didn't realize all the verses that were written for Dre, but that's some dope collaborative collective type shii.
The song Forgot about Dre is what changed my life and got me on that Eminem tip
#ThankYouDre #whoopwhoop 🤙🔥
I lived in Pittsburgh for years and was in tune with the music scene. A lot of that album as done by east coast artists like Sam Sneed, Mel Man, Jay Z, Joe Beast both production and writing credits. You could dive wayyyy deeper but could insight.
Yes made it different sound than the frist one
Always a good evening when there's a new Clout vid
I was just young&free back then. X-plosive, The Watcher, what's the difference, Still D.R.E, forgot about Dre top 5 tracks. every morning back then to start my day💯👑
This was fresh bro keep doin the damn thang!
2. Fuck You
3. Xxplosive
4. What's The Difference
5. Forgot About Dre
peace!🔥🔥🔥
This is a great breakdown and thank you for putting me on to the next episode 93 its a banger
👏👏👏 well done my boyyy 1 of my favorite albums of all time!! Dre's Sound quality is unmatched 👌😄😄🔥🔥🔥🔥
Sony Disc man era, I was 16

I was about to say "how could you have missed that 'The Next Episode' was a reference to 'Nuthin' But A G Thang'?" but then I remembered that I just realized the other day that the name of the band Raydio is a play on leader Ray Parker Jr.'s name haha!
Some shit you missed was not talking about how Lord Finesse produced The Message.
Also, Dre got sued for using the THX noise on the Lolo intro, but I don't think the lawsuit went anywhere cause Dre was able to show that he recreated the sound and didn't directly sample it.
2001 is probably thr best collection of instrumentals ever heard on one cd
Brilliant retrospective it was a great album from start to finish as one of dr dres greatest work
I'm a bit surprised that you didn't bring up the fact that the beat for The Message was originally made by Lord Finesse.
Really? I heard Royce the 5,9 wrote it
@@gerrygizzygarcia2572 Royce did. The original beat was from a Lord Finesse record tho.

@@kevs8225 oh ok I see
And Lord Finesse is credited in the album
Watch you every night b4 bed bro. You part my routine bless yo
The unreleased 2001 tracks sound crazy too
Huh ?

I was 10 and playing that album and MMLP back to back. I like 2001 as much as the chronic if not more.
I'm from the west of Ireland where are fighting with the Southside at the moment "Westside Till I Die" The Chronic is one of why top 5 albums respect from🇮🇪👍🏿
it’s a lot of videos on the chronic og but not an actual video with sufficient information , it still deserve an actual full length video.
I was 12 in sum kids home early smoking days n this was the soundtrack after nwa Dre returning with snoop and the whole death row movement was a big moment even here in London
This is the first album I ever owned. I was recording the radio on cassette before that. 12-13 yo. Definitely in my personal top 10 maybe even 5
I definitely have to listen to the 93 next episode. Great video and commentary 👍👍
This album I don't skip, I was disappointed Hittman didn't make it after contributing to this project.
That album was ok but after coming up on that first chronic it just wasn't the same. I think it was because it was my first time hearing Nate/daz/kurupt/rbx etc. That chronic 1 was sick , still in my top 5
I'm from Jamaica and I love all of the song the 2001 album for real
I think Nas wrote it.. Nas is also known to rhyme bars inside of bars Ny state of mind is a perfect example and on top of that Jay Z literally said get wrapped up in plastic when it happens that’s it ..in the takeover .. which was a Nas dis🤷🏿♂️
Dope 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I have been looking for that beat about 7 mins in, only heard it once live as they performed g thang in 1995 . The best with Dogg gone at the beginning preceded by a scoody do sample … where can I find it ?
I started making beats because of this album‼️ Life Changing‼️
This album still sounds fresh in 2024
I was 10 when it dropped but i did not know it dropped. 1st time i heard the Still instrumental was in 2004
Y'all forgot about bang bang
One of my favorite albums of all times
*Chronic Original, all eyes on me, illmatic, em first album, busta first album, fugees and few others ..classic albums esp CHRONIC GAME CHANGER*
Dre produced on nas it was written album on nas is coming in 1996 as well, before the firm in 97.
Which caused sparked a beef with 2Pac
Blessings. It took you long enough. Ha. Thank you for the West Coast OG's that hold down the most. Afro G64 LP village 🌟❤️. Microphone check one 9 two. Aftermath Dre.

Unpopular opinion, chronic 2001 shits on the original album
My top five album of all times, a classic. Thx bro
The Chronic 2001 and The Chronic is like night and day. As a guy who isn’t a fan of east coast rappers, I was like, how did Dre fall off? His last album was The Chronic.

The title needs to be Corrected because DR.DRE named the album '2001" NOT CHRONIC 2001. JUST 2001. AHAHAHAHAH
