The method was completely different to the method I used, which was just using ordinary masks and a smart object. Interesting how sometimes totally different methods can lead to the same result. And I learned something new (clipping masks) when I watched. Thank you for making and posting!

thanks for your great tutorial. but may I just add that if your font is not working just delete your font size and type increase it manually i increased it to 1200 and it worked well .i use photoshop 2021 and it worked for me.

To remove the white background, take the opacity of that layer to 0% and hide the copy of the background below.

You can skip the solid fill layer step and just place the image over the text you want and hit "create clipping mask"
