Grimson is a pretty cool cat. My first memory of him was going nuts against Toronto in the early 90's so I thought he was just a lunatic. I was surprised when I saw how soft spoken and laid back he is.
This dude beat up so many of my favourite players back in the day, lol. Despite that I always respected him as being one of the best enforcers I ever saw play. Very well-spoken and intelligent guy too.
Hull and Gretzy both said that without enforcers they would have been killed on the ice. And both put up ridiculous amounts of points you rarely even see today.
Two of my all time favorites. I partly modeled my game after Stu. I used to program my vcr to get video of the replays on games when he fought. Now we have UA-cam to see them all, and I don't get to drop the mitts any more (not sure I miss it)! I really enjoyed this interview, great job John and Stu.
What an awesome video! I truly loved watching this, hockey players are absolutely the best sportsmen to listen reminiscing. Real, likeable, gentlemen. Bravo!
I wasn't that impressed with Grimson (other than his size) when he first came to the Blackhawks but he was a guy who just got better as a technical fighter and on-ice policeman as he got into his late 20s and early-mid 30s. He really developed his craft.
4:10 oh shit, that's a blast from the past, Rocky Thompson. No kidding, watched him fight 5 times in a single AHL game back in the day, 3 times against Gerry Flemming who was a big lad. Stu is such a nice guy on top of being one of the best enforcers to ever lace up.
I actually played some adult summer league games with Stu Grimson in SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH when I was a 17 year old Goalie!!! Literally, no shit! He played for the Salt Lake Golden Eagles in the IHL, look it up!!! My coaches when I was on the bantam travel team called team Utah were Paul Skidmore, and Gary Burns both of them were IHL veterans (they retired in Salt Lake and both coached youth hockey) and I'm pretty sure they both played significant amounts in the "show" THE NHL!!!
From the looks of you John, I never would've guessed you were a hockey enforcer!!!!!! OR THAT YOU WERE SO HUGE!!!!! 6'8"!!!!!!! THAT'S ALMOST AS TALL ZDENO CHARA, THE TALLEST PLAYER EVER IN THE NHL!!!!!!!
Probie hated how his fighting ability took away from his time in the offensive zone trying to help his team, but took on the enforcer roll for his team nonetheless. Great interview John.
In Chicago, it got to the point where he didn't even care anymore about fighting!!!!! Young enforcers would be in their fighting stances, all jumpy, scared of possibly getting hurt, and Probes would be laughing at them and wanting them to make a move so they could get it over with!!!!
Who doesn't love Grimson? It's hilarious when I think about him in a courtroom as a lawyer, then I remember that time he absolutely lost his shit on the ice and skated around attacking everyone 😂😂😂
Would have loved to have seen Scott play in the 1980s or 1990s. I think he would have done well, even though I'm not sure he has enough of a mean streak. He's just too nice a guy (which is a good thing!)
He asked if Grimson likes the NHL now more than back when he played and as a fan I have to disagree. I would much rather have an intense chippy game were you can feel the emotion over an emotionless 3-2 game which is what the NHL seems like nowadays.
Great interview. I would suggest when interviewing someone, to not talk too much. Stu was going to make a point that I wanted to hear but you kept talking and moved on.

It's strange calling these guys goons cause they are the nicest, brightest and most articulate gentlemen around... great listening to these two
Glad to see both gentlemen are healthy, both physically and mentally.
No one could reach John's head to hit him there.
Stu was a legit badass and a great fighter.
This is great insight into the thought process and game of the enforcer. Thanks for posting!
Mr. Scott, great interview....you let him finish thoughts.......so many interviewers do not.....excellent....
This dude beat up so many of my favourite players back in the day, lol. Despite that I always respected him as being one of the best enforcers I ever saw play. Very well-spoken and intelligent guy too.
I’m really loving this series! Funny as hell and gives a lot of light into real players lives! Thanks John Scott!!
John, this was GREAT!!!
Great interview. Two of the coolest guys on the planet.
RIP ------ NHL NO HIT LEAGUE. THANK GOD FOR UA-cam SO WE CAN SEE WHEN MEN PLAYED IN THE NHL...
Hull and Gretzy both said that without enforcers they would have been killed on the ice. And both put up ridiculous amounts of points you rarely even see today.
This was absolutely great!
Stu is a fantastic guy
This was a great video John! I miss guys like Stu in the NHL.

Hockey players are the most down-to-earth athletes on the planet. Especially enforcers..
Awesome interview
What an awesome video! I truly loved watching this, hockey players are absolutely the best sportsmen to listen reminiscing. Real, likeable, gentlemen. Bravo!
Amazing how intelligent and well spoken Grimson is considering how he was an old school tough as nails top heavy weight fighter.
John, excellent interview!
Stu Grimson is your landlord. You pay the rent on time. Great interview.
Great channel! Hope this takes off! Keep up the good work John!!
Who put a thumbs down? This was an awesome interview.
Great interview! I hope you keep doing this!
Good show! Hockey needs more fights! Old school was way better!
I agree. The game is unwatchable now
Just watched this. Thanks for sharing it. Great insight into that aspect of the game.

16:22 Yzerman, Probert, Kocur and Grimson were all drafted by the Wings in 1983, the year I was born!!!!!
@Ken Clarke Petr Klima, too.
Class acts, both of them!
Love your videos. Cheers John!
Two highly educated goons
Love this! 3rd time watching.
"I fought probie 14 times" lol
The Grim Reaper was a bad dude. Great stuff.

Gino Odjicks 1st heavy weight bout in 1st game included the Grim reaper, I was there
From the looks of you John, I never would've guessed you were a hockey enforcer!!!!!! OR THAT YOU WERE SO HUGE!!!!! 6'8"!!!!!!! THAT'S ALMOST AS TALL ZDENO CHARA, THE TALLEST PLAYER EVER IN THE NHL!!!!!!!
14:58 He played over 720 games, too!!!!
Wow, Stu’s an attorney?
So is Ken Baumgartner, out of Harward
Probie hated how his fighting ability took away from his time in the offensive zone trying to help his team, but took on the enforcer roll for his team nonetheless. Great interview John.

Its getting nuts in here !!! Port .
How is Grimson's head THAT big.
Tie Domi was my favorite, was doing the "discount double check" before anyone else...lol...
Who doesn't love Grimson? It's hilarious when I think about him in a courtroom as a lawyer, then I remember that time he absolutely lost his shit on the ice and skated around attacking everyone 😂😂😂
I like the old school hockey better.
I would rather watch Stu beating guys up.
Would have loved to have seen Scott play in the 1980s or 1990s. I think he would have done well, even though I'm not sure he has enough of a mean streak. He's just too nice a guy (which is a good thing!)
nice guys!
Go Tech !

Great story. They fought again and Brown destroyed the reaper.
John needs to let his guest talk
15:58 Grimson never mentioned Jeremy Roenick!!!!! :(
Great interview. I would suggest when interviewing someone, to not talk too much. Stu was going to make a point that I wanted to hear but you kept talking and moved on.
The blonde kid in the background has that Vietnam war vet flashback face.
Ha!
8:14. Ugh, not me. Hockey is so boring now that the physical side has basically disappeared. No thanks.
It seems there were less concussions back then unless they were not reported as much.
Good effort but John you need to,let your guest speak and finish their point . Don’t interrupt as much.
you two sound like real nice guys...given a dirty job....perhaps in a next life you will be scorers or playmakers...!
The grim still has awesome hair, knock me out but don't touch the mane
Might wanna change the title Dave Brown was not his first fight just sayin.
Did Grimson win a Cup with the Red Wings?
He fought Kevin Maguire in Buffalo in the one game he played his first year in the NHL (1988).
All those people milling around don't know who these guys are, they are missing a lot.
I hate the game where it's at today, Stu. It's a boring shitshow. But I'm glad that you enjoy it.
Those are some freaky ass people in back ground...just saying. 🙄
Stu, suck it up. Your a gentleman but you must admit you got ure ass kicked by Rocky ;-)
I hate the NHL now. Fancy stick handling isn’t anywhere nearly as entertaining as old time hockey.
stu lies he never beat brown. yet brown owned him in a memorable fight.
