Good advice for winter clothing. I think you make a good point. Multiple thin, tight base layers keep the heat close to your body. Not the most stylish for a guy, but if it works it works. I can always wear a loose outer shell. Thanks for the tips.
Thanks for taking the time explaining all your winter clothing... I take my daughter (7... 8 in March) backpacking once a year, this gives me some ideas as she gets older... I will take her winter backpacking when she is ready.
Great video. I have shared this video with the females on our SAR team to help them choose articles for our winter North Carolina SAR training trip. Thanks again, Perry Retired Army
+mountaincat8 I guess it depends on where you're hiking. If you're somewhere with not a lot of brush or trees, an umbrella might work. In Oregon that doesn't really work. The trails are too narrow, lots of low hanging trees and brush. Plus I carry a camera so I wouldn't be able to also hold an umbrella.
+Pat outdoors but usually I'm hiking with other people so I don't really have to worry about anything :) we don't really have animals here except cougar.
I don’t use one. All of my winter shirts and jackets have a very high neck so I don’t need one. I do always carry a buff in my backpack so if I ever needed face coverage I could use that.
Hiker..... really enjoyed your video, however for a tutorial you left a lot of information out. What are the various types of clothing made of... wool, polypropylene, acrylic, ect?? Fuzzie stuff doesn't really tell us much. I'm an older man and I'm going to feel a little awkward going into RIE and asking for undergarments with the warm fuzzy stuff on the inside. When you are talking about something as important as winter, cold weather clothing, please be more specific as to the material the clothing items are made of... and maybe why that's a good choice. Thanks...............best wishes... Ax
Hiker... my apologies. I was a little quick in complaining. I saw your wonderful, detailed LIST of the item you reviewed.... really nice job!! Sorry for the criticism. BTW... thanks for the reply.... best wishes.... Ax
So you went from natural look to lipstick for indoor, hmmmm. Just kidding, enjoyed vid plus great stove. You look great with hat, way it outlines your face.
I sometimes wear lipstick during some of my videos that I have to film inside because the indoor lighting totally washes out my face and makes me look a little sickly. hahaha Other than lipstick and mascara, I don't wear any makeup.

I always bring a extra base layer I sweat to much that has saved my bacon getting that wet off my skin into something dry
yea I change into a dry shirt when I get back to the car :)
They say it wicks yes it does but you still have all that moisture it will still get you cold
does it get to 20 degrees in Oregon? Great video from Indiana
Oh yea!! Sometimes it gets into the teens or even below 0. It depends on where you are.
What do you think of using an umbrella to hike with during long extended rains?

Very funny smurf! I like your tee shirt. You a nurse?
I am not a nurse. It's just a comfy sweater I wear on weekends :)
Do you carry pepper spray or other self defence items for animals or weird people? If so, how do you accomplish this without a belt?
+Pat outdoors pepper spray, a knife, or a tazer can be kept in a jacket pocket.

Scarf or neck warmer ?
A scarf might be more versatile.
Hike Oregon no, why did not you show it in your video ?
Hike Oregon my neck warmer :)
I don’t use one. All of my winter shirts and jackets have a very high neck so I don’t need one. I do always carry a buff in my backpack so if I ever needed face coverage I could use that.
Hike Oregon cool 😀😍

I was still very new to making videos. If you check out my Winter Hiking for Beginners Part 1 I mention all the same clothes in much greater details.
