If you haven't read Six of Crows, cannot recommend enough. Heist/adventure vibes. I absolutely devoured it in less than two days. One of my all-time faves
Yess!!!
I was just gonna comment about SOC
Man.. I picked it up 3 years ago and DNF’d at 100 pages, not because I didn’t like it but because something tragic happened in my life and I stopped reading for like a year
I wanna try and pick it up again but I don’t wanna start over ugh idk
Do you have to read the shadow and bone series beforehand? A few ppl I know said to but I don't know if I can read a series that's 5 books long...
@@humblebookreader you only have to read shadow and bone beforehand if you care about spoilers, but honestly if you just want a great story with a diverse cast, you can absolutely pick up SOC and be fine without reading SAB 😊
Seven deaths of Evelyn hardcastle was a seriously gripping combination of adventure and mystery for me, definitely couldn’t put it down!
If you haven't read it - the starless sea is multiple adventures for a big adventure ❤️
1000000% on my list!!
I came here to comment this! The starless sea is one of my fave books
@@NoelleGallagher IVe read both the night circus and the starless sea and fell in love with Erin Morgansterns writing!! But soon as you said adventure i just thought of the starless sea! - its fantasy with a hint of romance
@@NoelleGallagher I say this is one to recommend if you are just looking for the atmosphere of the adventure itself, not a destination, which is why a lot of ppl were disappointed by this one. If you like the meandering side quests without there being much point in them, then go for it. This one was just straight vibes but I needed more out of it myself.
I personally hated the starless sea :-( I found it so aimless and prose-y for no reason
Dark matter by Blake crouch reads like a movie and is a fun sci fi mystery thriller that’s easy to follow. I’m listening on audible and the narration is phenomenal
I’m obsessed with this one
OMG the best book! I was hooked from the first line itself
I came here to recommend this one.! I started the book and finished it within the night. It’s not one you can put down.
Hard agree the audio book had me totally engrossed I remember circling the block over and over just listening to it
Yes Blake Crouch is soooo good!
The Poppy War Trilogy for sure. Also, The Green Bone Saga by Fonda Lee. Both absolutely epic series that are impossible to put down with characters whose lives you get so wrapped up in.
Yes! Love this
Second this!
This is how you lose the time war is incredible. Don’t get discouraged if you are confused in the beginning, the end has the most payoff I’ve ever seen in a book. Made me sob.
Yes, came to the comments to mention this and that it's not necessarily romance like you'd think of it and the prose makes it take longer to read, or maybe that was just my experience of it. So it took me the same amount of time to read as a book twice as long. I did not regret this time though as it was one of my favorites of 2022.
It moved into my top three books of all time as soon as I cracked it open.
This is good to hear because I loved the idea of it, but I started it and was immediately so confused. I’ll give it another go.
Agreed! After reading this, it became one of my favorite books of all time. Some get confused in the beginning, but it unravels itself page by page. The prose is beautiful and is 110% worth the payoff. So much uncovered in a short book, and also made me uncontrollably ugly cry.
Noelle I love and admire how you know your reading taste so well and your channel is always a breath of fresh air with books I have never seen before! I recently read The Cartographers by Peng Shepherd and this book was unputdownable! It involves maps, a little bit of a fantasy element, adventure, family (real family and found family), museums, and the cover is stunning! Enjoy your spring reads!! 💜
warbreaker by brandy sandy 😭 so adventurous, heart warming, and un-put-downable.
I’ve never claimed to be a fantasy girly, but this was a buddy read and i’m in LOVE. it’s a big boy, but super accessible and fun.
My favvvveeee!!!!
I am the messenger by Marcus Zuzak is my favorite book of all time! It could be considered about an adventure with tasks the main character has to achieve! The premise of the book is literally about caring about people it's so good.
as a fellow former swimmer and mermaid girlie, Chlorine sounds SO GOOD! I definitely need to check it out!
i just want to say that i have been reading muuuch muccch more and i have been watching your vids to motivate me so thank u noelle. ur good energy is contagious
Someday Maybe was such an emotional and well-written book. As someone who was going through immense grief at the time, this book was very comforting.
I started reading Luster because of your video and OMG IT IS SO GOOD!!
I’m just over halfway through and the writing is insane. So, so good!!!
Thank you for recommending! I’ve never heard of it otherwise.
The poppy war series is a new absolute favorite of mine. The first book is so gripping because omg the pacing is the best!
I read 'Luster' and 'Cleopatra and Frankenstein' and both are wonderful pieces of literature. The latter made me write down quotes because they were mind-blowing in its true sense.
every time you post it’s such a lovely surprise 🤍 the hair is popping as alwaysb
i’ve been waaaaaiiiting for spring book recs !!!!!
DAUGHTER OF THE MOON GODDESS! A fantastical duology that’s a great mix of magic, adventure, family dynamics, and romance!! Fav new books of the year for sure
omg Noelle I know it's a long book but THE WAY OF KINGS!!! adventure + intrigue + betrayal + complex characters that you'll love and care about. It's soooo worth it you should give it a try!!
man, i love watching your videos but you make me so excited the way you talk about books that halfway through i just pause your video and start reading :')
Really miss your reading vlogs ☺ Would love to see a reading vlog for any of these books you're planning to read this spring 🥰Hair is gorgeous btw!
cursed bunny is definitely SOMETHING. wow that book, those stories, the way it begins even- i read it a while ago and i haven’t stopped thinking about it, incredible storytelling and writing
As you said any genre, I hope you won't mind me suggesting some Middle Grade, it's always helped me out of slumps as they are quick, fun and adventurous reads! The Train to Impossible Places by P.G. Bell is super cute, about a girl named Suzy who is very smart, but her logical brain can't seem to figure out how a set of train tracks appeared in her front room, she jumps onto the train to find out and that starts off a whole adventure! Also, Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow by Jessica Townsend, about Morrigan who thinks she's horribly unlucky until a man named Jupiter North shows up on her eleventh birthday and saves her life by taking her to a completely different world called Nevermoor! I really enjoyed both of these books and I hope they help! :)
I’ve seen some others say Six of Crows and that’s immediately what I thought of when you said adventure!!! It’s technically YA (fantasy) but I think people of many ages would enjoy it. The world feels so extremely vivid, I genuinely could not put it down
I loved Ariadne! It’s a Greek mythology retelling of Theseus & the Minotaur but from Ariadne’s perspective (the Minotaur’s sister who helped Theseus escape the labyrinth!) it’s full of adventure with amazing settings, making it a fun way to learn Greek mythology. Highly recommended!
our share of night is easily my favorite book of the year and simply one of my favorite books of all time! the audiobooks is PHENOMENAL
the queen is backkkk 💝💝💝
Having a truly bummer morning (state of the US + sick family) and seeing you had a new video really brightened my day! Thanks a million!
Maybe not the greatest adventure recommendation because I wouldn't exactly call it a page turner but you might try Killing Commendatore by Haruki Murakami. I don't know if I've seen you read much Murakami and this one is my favorite. My other recommendations would be to try out mysteries. I really enjoy all of Anthony Horowitz's books and they are all pretty light. I like the Magpie Murders the best. For more psychological mystery, In the Woods by Tana French is gripping and haunting, as is almost all of her Dublin detectives series. The Likeness and Broken Harbor were also very haunting. I also just finished Tomorrow, Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, which was very gripping but I will admit that I hated it due to a plot twist that happens 3/4s in but hey it was very readable and fast, even for a slow reader like me.
Thanks again for being a bright spot in my crummy day!
I'm so excited for you to read Our share of night!!!! You are gonna fly through it, I promise! It's dark but soooo sad, I was holding back tears in the train reading it
Such a great list! You'll love This is How You Lose the Time War!
The one from Mariana Enríquez is THE BOOK. Hope you enjoy it. She is one of my favorite Argentine writers. ❤🔥
dunno if i missed it in previous vids but the moon tattoo looks so good on you!!
I love your videos so much! Truly, thank you for posting.
I definitely suggest The Broken Earth trilogy by N.K. Jemisin! I was absolutely enthralled by the series, not to mention her writing is great and for a fantasy series it’s also great for “literature people” because there’s a ton to unpack and great themes. But you can also just get lost in the world and enjoy the books at the same time. She also won the Hugo Award for each of the three books in the trilogy (which I believe has never been done before).
Y E S. I was endlessly engrossed!
LOVE
Yes! Was making sure no one else recommended it before recommending it myself. My absolute favorite books of all time. Love them!
I was going to suggest this as well! I’m looking forward to reading her duology The City We Became
yes!!! our share of night (nuestra parte de noche) is extraordinary. One of my favourites novels, I'm so glad that all of mariana's work has been translated. Love from argentina♥ aguante nuestra literatura 🧉
I’m not sure if this book fits what you’re looking for but Braised Pork by An Yu, it’s one of my all time favorites and she does go on an odyssey of sorts and it got me out of a reading slump ! 🫶🏼 loved this video as always !! 🥰
I gave Luster 5 stars but it was definitely a mood read for me. I was in the space of no plot just vibes and this book thrived for me👏🏻✨
I would love to see you read A Court of Thorns and Roses! I think it would make such a fun book or series to vlog as well.
I absolutely loved Luster - so bingeable and the writing is magnificent!
This one sounded soooo good when she described it so I was looking for comments to see what others thought. YAY! Adding to tbr 😆😆
I don't know if you've already read it but The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch had me on the edge of my seat the whole time I was reading it! The vibe is basically Pirates of the Caribbean meets Ocean's Eleven, with heists and adventure and a super thrilling plot. And the first book works as a standalone. Love your videos! 😊
Always such a joy to see you pop up on my feed Noelle. Thank you!
My adventurous recommendation would be Eat Pray Love if you’ve never read it. It’s such a fantastic book about societal expectations of women and I know you enjoy messy relationships/marriage in trouble and this has several relationships involved with self discovery and a lot of adventure. I always recommend this backlist title and it reads almost like fiction though it’s a memoir
Cleopatra & Frankenstein was a very good read. I have a feeling you'll love it. Sometimes it feels like its trying too much but its written very beautifully and you can forgive those few times and sweep them under the carpet
chlorine sounds SO GOOD! i swam from ages 4 to 16 and miss it so much, i'm definetly gonna give it a try! (btw missed you)
Heartless by Marissa Meyer!! It’s a story about how the Queen of Hearts became evil. I read it in highschool and I am still thinking about the ending 5 years later 😊
i just finished cleopatra and frankenstein and it is very different from conversations with friends. there is so much going on, and it just spirals and spirals. so good
the rosie project is a very light and heart warming adventurous book! highly recommended💘
So glad you’re back!! As for recommendations, it’s not necessarily an adventure book, but I feel like you would really enjoy “Maame” by Jessica George! It’s about a young writer trying to navigate newfound independence and coming-of-age amongst a family tragedy - I couldn’t put it down. You might also like “Little Rabbit” by Alyssa Songsiridej, which feels very in-tune with some of the themes in “Cleopatra and Frankenstein” (and which I also devoured)💐❤
P.S.: “Nightcrawling” and “Luster” are incredible!
Yes!!! MAAME was INCREDIBLE!! I couldn’t put it down either!
I am obsessed with The Expanse series by James S A Corey!! The storyline is so gripping and fast paced I blew through the first one and am having the same experience with the second! I wouldnt normally think of myself as hugely into scifi but this one is truly fantastic
I came here to recommend this too! I just finished the first book last night and LOVED it!
I was going to recommend this too! Currently at the fourth book, I sped through the first three for the past month and loved them!
This Is How You Lose the Time War is one of the best books I have ever read. You're going to love it!!
Also, I missed your videos💙
I get the biggest hit of happiness when I see a new video from you
If you like cozy mysteries I HIGHLY recommend the Veronica speedwell series by Deanna Reybourn! It’s one of my favorite series! Every book is a different mystery and adventure. The physical books are amazing but the audio books are chefs kiss❤️
I would definitely recommend The Starless Sea! I think it's best to go into this book without knowing anything about it, so bear that in mind!☺
I totally agree with the Starless Sea as a recommendation! One of my all time favorite books!! I also have to recommend the An Ember in the Ashes series by Sabaa Tahir. I absolutely love all the adventure and moral dilemmas.😊
Edit: I also love This Is How You Lose The Time War❤
"Into the Distance" by Hernan Diaz!! Read it last year, was a 10/10 and think about probably more than any other book I've ever read! A historical kinda western featuring a young man crossing the US in search of his brother! Such a lovely main character and phenomenal atmosphere!!
My favorite mystery series is the Amelia Peabody Mysteries. It has rich family dynamics, the historical context and egyptological references are very approachable, so you don’t need to have any prior knowledge to enjoy it. The first book is called “Crocodile on the Sandbank” and it’s a delight. I listen to the whole series through at least once a year, but make sure if you get the audiobook that it’s the versions narrated by Barbara Rosenblat, her voice makes the story live for me.
Fingers crossed for spring reading vlogs! 🤞🏻🤞🏻💜🌻🦋✨
Seeing this made my day so much better! We also have the same earrings! They're so much fun!
I recommend The Road! It’s an easy read but the adventure these two main characters face…it’s fascinating and heart wrenching
For a sort of adventure/beautiful story I’d reccomend in memoriam. It was so beautifully written and devastating in such a compelling way🤍
Book that I couldn’t put down recently was Once There Were Wolves by Charlotte McConaghy. It was so beautiful and the familial relationships explored were so well done. It was definitely an adventure!
this is so good to hear because i already own it!! will start asap!
Absolutely! Same experience here, and also the audiobook is amazing too. Great exploration of womanhood, SIBLING RELATIONSHIPS, good intentions vs road to hell, wilderness outside vs inside humans, and just the sacrifices we make to protect those we love and the truth we believe in. Very visceral storytelling and world descriptions. Also, Scottish Highlands 😍
That book was INCREDIBLE
Yes, this book is incredible! Loved it so much
I recommend Tress of the Emerald Sea if you're looking for something that centers around an adventure! It's charming and fun from page one, I just loved reading it
When you said adventure, my first thought was Six of Crows! It has such a fun heist-based plot!
Your book vids are amazing. I look forward to every video you post. Just awesome.
I highly recommend Paris Hilton’s memoir! I know you love memoirs and I was surprised by how well written it was and how greatly narrated the audiobook is. I’m positive you’ll enjoy it! ❤
I feel like you might like Hyperion! It's a sci fi story about 7 individuals who are on a pilgrimage to a dangerous planet, and each chapter is a different character's backstory as to why they're on this voyage, kind of like short story vibes. It's SO GOOD
This is absolutely a must read. Hyperion built hard sci-fi as we know it now. It also might appeal to Noelle because it reads like the Canterbury Tales.
"a quick synop-ee"!! also the walls behind you are identical to my living room omg
cozy fantasy might be a good genre, to not go too hardcore epic fantasy but to just get that lil bit of adventure!
i really liked legends and lattes and tress of the emerald sea
Just After the Wave was FANTASTIC. Super gripping, adventure story with twists and fantastic imagery 😊
If you haven’t already, I’d highly recommend She Who Became the Sun, it has Mulan vibes but a lot darker and more nuanced. On the other hand, there’s also the Mirror Visitor series, it’s a french series with a Howl’s Moving Castle type of fantasy and I LOVED it (plus the covers are gorgeous!)
Ooo okay for adventure book- That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon is currently my everything. 😊
So happy every time I see another video of yours show up on my screen ❤ I am going to go back to an older book and reread Peter Hoeg´s "Smilla´s Sense of Snow". I read it over a decade ago and loved the main character (she´s Inuit) and remember it being a gripping read.
I love the throne of glass series which sort of turns into an adventure book. A real life adventure would be wild by cheryl strayed!
More Than This by Patrick Ness is one of the most unputdownable books i've ever read!! It kept me guessing at the end of every chapter!! It's nearly 500 pages and i read it in basically one might because i HAD to know what was going on. Love the video 💗
OH MY GOD YESSSS CURSED BUNNY ONE OF MY FAVORITESSS. I love this book soo much made my friends read it too and they loved it as well. Definitely a 10/10.
when i was in middle school my absolute favorite book was the tail of emily windsnap. it’s about a girl who discovers that she’s a mermaid and follows her struggling with keeping her secret as a member of the school swim team and simultaneously exploring life under the sea !! if you ever had an inkling to read ya i absolutely recommend :))
Omg I remember the book set I had of Emily Windsnap came with a little shell necklace in it that I was obsesssssed with. I might still have it even 🤔
I LOVED the Emily Windsnap books!!! I totally forgot about them thanks for unlocking that memory
Something Wilder - my favorite Christina Lauren book! It’s full of adventure and romance. Treasure hunting, maps, challenges, a little mystery, and it’s a page turner! 💕
The Serpent & The Wings of Night - Hunger Games style challenges with Vampires! 🔥
Oooo I have some adventurous recs that might work for you!! I think fantasy/sci-fi is the genre that usually fits for just a good-time romp but I also know you don’t tend to read super hardcore fantasy or sci-fi, so maybe some light fantasy or light sci-fi would work!
For sci-fi, a book I read on one day that reminds me of Project Hail Mary (near future, light sci-fi, strong first person narrative voice, quirky first contact) and Ready Player One (a large scale immersive puzzle to solve) is An Absolutely Remarkable Thing by Hank Green. The bonus is that it and its sequel have more interesting thematic conversations from either of those comp titles. Hank has a lot to say about fame, existing online, extremism and misinformation, etc. and how internet game can put strain on people’s relationships. It’s sometimes classified as YA which I don’t get at all.
Another rec is a new release called The Adventures of Amina al-Sarafi. It’s fantasy but really light. Not very complicated magic or politics. It’s a pirate adventure about a middle aged mother who is a retired notorious pirate thief who gets dragged back into a last mission. I’ve heard the representation of Middle Eastern history culture and religion is great although I cannot speak to that personally. Again the narrative voice is strong, it’s funny, and just an all around fun time.
Just saw the video came out, but I'm at work. Definitely watching this when I get home, but had to leave my like and comment.
The Name of the Wind, my favorite of all time tied with Ready Player One. I think you’ll love it!
Definitely read this is how to lose the time war asap! It is so good!!
really loved Luster I hope you do too!! ❤ Cleopatra and Frankenstein I actually also really enjoyed and I still think about even months later after reading
The Hunger Games!!! I’m rereading it at the moment and I haven’t felt this excited to read in a long time :)
currently reading Dance of Thieves and loving it!! lots of adventure + a little romance 😌
love the spring vid! im def putting "nightcrawling" on my tbr! for recs, a fun adventurous thriller is "perfume: the story of a murderer" by patrick suskind. its about a budding perfumer with an amazing sense of smell, and his desire to create the Best Perfume Ever takes him all over France, from paris to the countryside. There is a lot of amazing scent imagery, which I don't feel like we get a lot of, generally. Theres pleasant smell descriptions and not-so-pleasant, but quite vivid either way. also kinda dark/funny.
My last couldn't put it down book was the first book of The Hawthorne Legacy books! One page in, and I was hooked. Great adventures in the series!
Dark matter and recursion by Blake crouch are two of my all time favorite books! Such good sci-do thrillers that were unputdownable for me
My rec is Nettle & Bone by T Kingfisher! It's short, they're saving the MC's sister and the kingdom, and the humor is dark. Also, there's a cute found family. What's not to love?
Noelle, if you like reading about family/sibling dynamics and also about swimming, you have to read Black Cake. One of my faves from 2022!
Look Closer is an incredible thriller that kept me hooked from page 1! It looks chunky but it's a fast read and short chapters (praise be). Such a fun one! ❤
The adventures of Amina ElSirafi by S.A. Chakraborty. The book came out last month, and it's sooo good I literally finished it in a day, and the audiobook is so good and immersive, so I recommend you read it while listening to the audiobook, best experience ever.
I’m reading this now. Just starting but I liked the writing style.
I can't wait for you to read This is How you Lose the Time War! It's one of my favorite books I've ever read. It's short, but packs a punch. I read it and was shook. Some say the beginning is confusing, but I didn't mind it and the pay off is worth it. It's a beautiful but intricate romance in a sci-fi world.
Miss Benson’s Beetle is a lovely cozy adventure book. Highly recommend!
My recommendation is Mask of Mirrors by M.A. Carrick. It is an adult fantasy that will be a trilogy, the third and final book comes out in August this year I believe. Basic premise is there is a con artist named Ren who is trying to pull this elaborate con on a noble family to make a better life for herself and her sister Tess. There is political intrigue, there’s elaborate plot, there’s some romance, and a character like Zorro?! It’s amazing and the second book is even more fast paced and amazing! Couldn’t put them down. It takes a little bit to understand how the Venetian inspired world works but trust me, be patient because the payoff is worth it!! Ultimate favorite book of last year! Hope you get out of your slump!
I always start a fantasy series when in a reading slump. I would recommend crescent city! It’s funny, based in a modern/urban setting.
The blood trails by NE Davenport! It’s so good and you won’t be able to put it down. It’s kind of new adult/adult so don’t be put off by the cover. Also glad you’re reading cursed bunny it’s very interesting
this is how you lose the time war is one of my favourite books so i was so excited to see it on your list! it's one that will either leave you breathless or confused and unsatisfied- i hope that doesn't deter you from reading it. i LOVED it a lot, and i'm so excited to hear what your thoughts are on it. it reads super fast and the romance is ... insane 🥲
i also thought of recommending banana yoshimoto - i'm not sure if you've ever read her writing but she has a short story collection called "kitchen" that i've not read yet and a literary fiction leaning short book called "goodbye tsugumi", which is one of my favourite books ever as well. it's not adventure-y but perhaps an idea for when you're vibing with that
Cannot recommend the Mistborn trilogy enough for adventure and saving the world. I cried so hard in the last book because it was so impactful. The characters are phenomenal and it will keep you hooked. They’re large epic fantasy and I read them all in a month and a half 😅
I just read Outlawed by Anna North and it was such an amazing adventurous romp!!! 10/10 would highly recommend. It focuses on a group of outlaw women (primarily) who ride horses and thieve other towns and people.
Dark Matter had such a hold on me - similar to how I felt reading Project Hail Mary(besides the science parts). If you loved Everything Everywhere All at Once, it’s a must read!
you have sold me -- absolutely going to read this one!
@@NoelleGallagher Girl it’s mind blowing!!!!
