Both sentences are correct. But they have different meaning.
1. The two brothers killed each other.
Brother A killed Brother B and Brother B killed Brother A. (Somehow. Maybe they shot each other simultaneously.)
2.The two brothers killed themselves.
Brother A killed himself and Brother B also killed himself.(may be both committed suicide)
Both are wrong
The 2 brothers killed each other.

So shouldn't it go like 'i stopped on my way to school after seeing a snake'
