  • A few months ago, many viewers emailed me to express their interest in traditional Japanese carpentry, to show the most genuine view of traditional technology and its importance to present life. We decided to make these videos about the direct work of workers and carpenters at The Conservation of Buildings.

This video was recorded by construction camera systems (Some of my friends have given it to me). I have edited it, adding new effects and music to create a new creation as folows: "Nikko Woodworking | Amazing Repair Work in Rinnoji Temple, Whose Construction Dates Back to 1250"

One of the things I like about the Japanese, they refuse to cut corners. Even if you lose money the work is done correct.

Does anyone know what type of metal is used for these tiles over the wood? Is it aluminum?

I always thought that these temples were completely made withóut nails ( and glue ). But apparently they do use nails.

yeah, Stephan Reisig, Metal fasteners such as nails and cramps are sometimes used, but only for relatively small members which have no primary structural role.

Thumbs up for the woodwork, thumbs down for the history!
Only Tokugawa Ieyasu's spirit (:57) is enshrined at the Nikkozan Riinoji Toshogu Shrine in Nikko, Tochigi!
His physical remains are in the much lesser known, but older and more important Kunouzan Toshogu Shinto Shrine just outside of Shizuoka City, Shizuoka perfecture.
