The LORD got me one in 1963 when I turned 20 identical to this one except it had black interior & both tops aluminum vette valve covers 230 HP with a power glide transmission , you can bet I had a whale of a time in 63 ! ALL GLORY TO GOD !
In the early 60's I watched Route 66 and fell in love with the Corvette. It wasn't till I was 60 years old that I was able to get my first corvette, a triple black C6. The 1958 would be my first choice if I good get a C1. Great video!
The first car I ever worked on and it introduced me to the world of hot rodding. I was about 7 or 8 in the mid 60's, my brother had a 58 that he raceed at Beeline dragway. It seems every opportunity I could get I would help out on the car or at the track. What wonderful memories.
Kevin does the best reviews I've seen - great, clear info, no BS. I love the later C1's, esp. the last round-tail - the '60. Don't care much for the chrome strips & fake hood louvres on the '58, but what a fun ride it would be!
I was surprised to learn that the 230 hp engine came with plain Chevrolet valve covers. The 58 I owned had the aluminum ones but I bought it used. I am sure that the previous owner changed the valve covers as well as the seats being reupholstered to look like they were out of a 61 Vette. I tired everything but could never get the doors to seal when it rained. I don’t regret selling it because of that reason and the fact that I am too large to fit in one now.
If GM was wise they would made a modern retro version of the Corvette, they could have subtle made them aerodynamic enough and they would have sold better.
+GlassTopRX7 They could do it as a limited run but the cars would cost a fortune. Regulations mean that cars have to be made in a particular way. Even during the manufacturing certain processes have to be used in an exact way.
I never liked the 58 corvette 4 headlights, the 57 corvette looks better with the 2 headlights, looked more like an european sports car (Aston Martin, Ferrari, Maserati)

Besides the 57 Belair and the 57 Nomad this is the coolest car of all time along with the 57 T Bird.
I prefer this slightly, ever so slightly over the 57 Vette. Love the 4 headlights.

If memory serves, '58 was the first year thegovernment allowed quad head lights. Every body tried them.
With a car with 160 MPH speedometer you probably wish you had DUAL HEADLIGHTS , especially at night trying to reach that 150 MPH point ! LOL .
