  • Brian Q. Torff and New Duke is an exciting 8-piece band with a unique and authentic musical voice. Initially inspired by the work of the great Duke Ellington, composer, bassist and musical director Brian Torff provides a distinct identity through his insightful lyrics and musical arrangements. Brian Q. Torff and New Duke bring you their first Christmas album, entitled Christmas in Our Town, with originals such as Peace on Earth, Christmas in Our Town, Encore!, Mary Lou Has Come To Play, Soulful Sarah and more from this great jazz-rock horn band!
    New Duke features Darryl Tookes, vocals, Jamie Finegan, trumpet and flugelhorn, Rick Sadlon, alto sax and flute, Steve Moran, tenor, soprano and baritone sax, John Fumasoli, trombone, Dave Childs, piano and keyboard, Greg Burrows, drums and background vocals, Brian Torff, acoustic and electric bass and vocals, and special guest Jarryd Torff, baritone sax.
    Diverse influences including Ellington, Zappa, Gil Evans, the Beatles and James Brown can be heard in this fresh musical concept. New Duke first album of original material entitled Post Authentic World was produced by the renowned musician and record producer Steve Katz, Katz’ describes the album as: … a band for today and for tomorrow, and in its own category. And best of all - it’s all live, all played by humans - talented humans who know what they’re doing and having fun doing it. Is it jazz? Is it rock? I don’t know. You tell me. Music like this doesn’t need to fall into any category - it just is, and it just works - perfectly.
    The band consists of Brian Torff, bass, composer, Darryl Tookes, vocals, Jamie Finegan, trumpet, Rick Sadlon, alto sax/flute, Steve Moran, tenor sax, John Fumasoli, trombone, Dave Childs, keyboard, and Greg Burrows, drums, with special guest Jarryd Torff, baritone sax.

    Never heard Brian play the Electric Bass before....nice.
