I agree. Where were you, when your sister was sick, and is going to die.she needed someone responsible, loving, and there to raise those girls. Carl loves them, but he's a man.She needed a female. Nell. Was there,a good friend, and the girls liked her and formed a strong bond that worked for years in helping Carl to raise those girls. I hate to refer to another woman as a hitch, however, she,well...was.I feel, that was really guilt because she wasn't there by her sister's side, and Nell was,all the way.the girls love her,Carl respects her.She was jealous of her.and guilty.
@Shettikka EXACTLY. This Bitch Wanna Pop Up and Wanna Start Running Shit AND She Talking About her Sister this AND her Sister that AND Her Flesh And Blood, Bitch Where Were you at When your Sister was Dying and Needed you..
Blanche was racist because she didn’t want Nell helping Chief Kanisky raise the girls. However, Chief Kanisky outsmarted his sister in law-He left Nell the house & custody of the girls. Chief Kanisky knew that’s what Margaret would’ve wanted and that what he wanted.
18:04, I would've done anything for a father that took me fishing and to demolition derbies; sounds like a pretty good father to me. Plus as the Chief of Police, I'm sure he had great health benefits for his kids, something I sure didn't have growing up!
I first saw this episode when it was first broadcast the very first time in 1983.I really loved that belly dancer.does anyone know who she really was,her name and so on?
Considering it was the 80's Katie opinion would have honored but most likely not Julie's a definitely not Sam. That aunt was ruthless in her pursuit of the girls, a family judge would've sided with her because of family first, Carl's job etc.
This was a fun and deep episode. Seems like Margaret's sister Blance was an uppity bitter disrespectful, racist, heifer who thinks that she's better than everybody but was most likely jealous because Margaret had a husband, children and friends that truly loved her while Blanche didn't have anybody due to her attitude. Carl's father didn't like Blanche and neither did the belly dancer. I have a feeling that Carl wrote in his will that he wanted Nell to look after Katie, Julie and Samantha who couldn't stand their aunt
I wonder how this episode would play out today. I think this is a relevant today. Old family culture vs new family culture. Racism. If Nell only said the N word.... it would made it better.
This scene should have won Nell Carter an Emmy award.
Am so glad I found this show it's still my favorite

Exactly Nell took those children as her own.

Exactly.
Yes exactly!!! as I said before anyone one that wasn't tall and slim and white she was against racism and discrimination.
I know she got nominations for the show but dam she should have won every dam year she was spectacular ❤❤❤❤

There also may be some kind of guilt she's feeling. She knew she wasn't there when her sister needed her.
Ive become such a fan of Nell Carter!
This show had an interesting way of dealing with racial issues without "jumping the shark."
Neal is angle. Forever!!!

Great show
Great episode and a very intense 1 grand pa is too funny loved his sense of humor every family needs that 💯💯💯💯🤣🤣🤣👊💪👍
Weren't the girls old enough to have a say in who they wanted to raise them?
Considering it was the 80's Katie opinion would have honored but most likely not Julie's a definitely not Sam. That aunt was ruthless in her pursuit of the girls, a family judge would've sided with her because of family first, Carl's job etc.
Probably not if they were still under 18.
@@alexisstewart8605 She didn't care about those girls. She just hated Nell because she was black and she's the one raising the girls.
I would think so.
22:44 . Did she say, "@$$" instead of hand?
she absolutely did, but edited for TV
Ed looks like Pavarotti
HA!

Nell and blanche arguing wouldn't hold up in court
I disagree with that it was the truth. Everthing Neil said was from the heart.
