  • There are concerns about the low river levels in UK rivers and its impact of wildlife after weeks without rain.
    Oxygen and pollution levels are also being monitored as another region, Yorkshire, has been declared as being in drought.
    It comes as the Met Office warns of more heavy rain and thunderstorms over the next few days with the possibility of flash floods that could bring travel problems and power outages.

    Commendable work saving those fish.

    Holding the fish up like that out of water for a photo op will definitely help it’s survival rate. A bit of suffocation never killed anyone.

    How far is the next full flowing river?
    Could link a large pipeline between rivers
    And a valve to open and close the flow?

    What happened to dredging the rivers?

    • @mimikurtz2162
      @mimikurtz2162 2 роки тому

      The problem is not silt, it's a dropping water table. Dredging the river bed destroys the aquatic environment and makes it virtually uninhabitable for fish anyway.
      Dredging was never about keeping rivers flowing, it was a short-sighted and destructive anti-flooding measure to drain our rainfall and get the water out to sea as quickly as possible. Doing that lowers the water table and drains our natural aquifers while hindering them from being replenished by seepage from rain-sodden ground. The result is flash flooding at any drainage bottlenecks whenever it rains heavily and dry rivers when it doesn't.

    Ummm... to replenish O2 levels in water, all that is needed are multiple fountains. Much cheaper than moving the fish.

      @@portcullis5622 no. It depends on oxygen left. The water can be oxygenated.

    Seems like man trying to play God to me. How many fish were killed in this rescue that may or may not have lived. Considering its pissing it down and is predicted for next week or two wouldny they have just been better with some pumps pushing water up like a fountain
