- Beau builds a Rail Bird XL poling skiff. This build is inspired the Railbird designed by the late Jeff Spira. Thanks for the inspiration Jeff! You will be missed.
The video covers the entire build from layout to paint. The boat is 15 feet 11 inches long with a 38 inch beam. You can use this boat like a kayak, stand up paddle board, poling skiff, and can be powered by trolling motor.
The wood and fiberglass composite construction is strong and light weight.

I have used 5 mm plyboard Luan to build small boats and for a supply dinghy behind a sailboat. It's amazingly tough.

Really nice build. I like the modifications, especially the bow cap. It appears to be more than enough room for two marine batteries up there. I mostly do night fishing, so I carry 2 (sometimes 3) batteries to run lights and the transom troll.
Hi Beau. Just wanted to compliment you on the excellent tutorial, and especially in taking the time to do materials testing. That takes a lot of time and effort to set up, let alone documenting so big kudos for sharing that information. Will definitely check out your in depth video on that topic and your proposed Carolina Dory.
