  • A musical journey of Aulos and voice by Max Brumberg and Katharina Gabriela recorded in St Flour de Pompidou, France.
Aulos or auloi double pipes from antique greece, an improvisation on a reconstruction of the Louvre Aulos.
This Aulos is a reproduction of an instrument found in Egypt, exactly the same hole setting it must have sounded very similar when people played it. Though the players were far more experienced playing in a tradition of an instrument being already played for about 2000ys in those days. Nowadays we are rediscovering this ancient instrument and its sounds and for me it is an amazing thing to be part of the people rediscovering the Aulos.....
The breathing technique used is the very same like on the didgeridoo, circular breathing.

That is very weird, and very cool. That instrument sounds like somebody made it from a bagpipe, with just the horns, or whatever they are called...pipes, I guess. :-/ Did it precede or follow the bag pipes? I guess you could also think of it like a couple of reed pipes from an organ, with finger holes to change pitch. Pretty unusual and quite different, in any case.
The vocal work against it sounds like it would take a fair bit of work to master, rather difficult as well. Very Gregorian chant like. I'm making a mess of this, but just some thoughts. Thx for creating and posting. I love finding previously unknown things like this.

What a great sound this instrument can produce! What historial evidence have you found regarding this instrument? It sounds amazing with the acustics of the place.

In Greece we call that instrument diaulos witch means douple aulos ...Aulo we call the single one.

I guess you are wrong. Even Greek researchers are very clear that an aulos (singular and auloi is the plural) is always two pipes. Iconography always shows two pipes, I don‘ know about any showing one pipe (monoaulos?). I think the idea of diaulos is the same sort of confusion as calling the aulos a ‚flute‘ . PLease this shall be no offense or attack to your comment, but please have a look on scientific articles like the ones on auloi by Stelios Psaroudakes. You will see the terminology is very clear.
