Kim Witczak is an international drug safety advocate and speaker with over 25 years professional experience in advertising and marketing communications. She became involved in pharmaceutical drug safety issues after the sudden death of her husband in 2003 due to an undisclosed drug side effect of antidepressants. She was instrumental in helping to get FDA Blackbox suicide warnings added to antidepressants in 2004 and 2006. Kim has taken her personal experience and launched a national public awareness campaign through www.woodymatters.com, a grassroots organization dedicated to make sure the everyday patient perspective is represented in healthcare conversations. Woodymatters put a human face on the real life, sometimes tragic, consequences of our current flawed drug safety system. Kim has been featured in major news media such as Fortune, Reader's Digest, Consumer Reports, Wall Street Journal, New York Times, and Star Tribune as well as subject of numerous local and national television news stories and documentaries. She has testified before US Senate on FDA related issues as well as numerous FDA Advisory Committees. In 2013, Kim co-organized the Selling Sickness: People Before Profits international conference held in Washington, DC bringing academic scholars, healthcare reformers, consumer organizations/advocates and progressive health journalists to develop strategies and solutions challenging the “selling of sickness.” She was appointed Consumer Representative on the FDA Psychopharmacologic Drug Advisory Committee in 2016 and is a board member with several non-profit organizations in the field of drug and patient safety such as MISSD.co, US Patient Safety Network, Re-Check Investigative Health Journalism, and Institute for Scientific Freedom.

This is a great video - although under tragic circumstances - and unfortunately this advocacy is so desperately needed. Much respect for you both - thank you for the work you are doing!

Coming off these drugs is brutal. Dealing with the symptoms after these drugs are out of our bodies is brutal. Knowing that I'm drug-free is what keeps me going. 4 1/2 years off Klonopin and 3 years off Topamax and Effexor XR. My life is far from normal, but so much better than being numbed. I can't imagine what Kim had to go through ~ thanks for these conversations. Janet

How can I participate to ur interview series? I have a story to share which includes the out of ur head/body experience while starting and while quitting an SSRi. People need to know, these drugs are very dangerous. We usually think that only long term use can be dangerous. Unfortunately, even short term like few weeks can kill or destroy a life even of a completely healthy person.
      THIS HAS GOT TO STOP!!

We are booked out several weeks with guests coming. We usually don't take solicitations from guests, but rather seek out people that are interesting to us. If you'd like to be considered, please email us at medicatingnormal@gmail.com with any past interviews you'd done, or your story written up or anything like that and we will see if you're a good fit for our series. Please understand we have many requests so we can't interview everyone who asks.

So many people tell their doctors what they are actually experiencing with the drug and they are not listened to by the doctor. The doctor brushes it off. It is criminal.
