  • I got a vaginal hysterectomy (not laparoscopically assisted) on January 3rd 2019.
I am 27 years old, and have never been pregnant.
I got a hysterectomy because I had severe primary dysmenhorrhea.
While I am transgender (nonbinary, they/them), the reason for my hysterectomy had nothing to do with my gender identity.
I am currently not on any hormones/HRT. I was on the Mirena IUD, and they removed that the same day of my procedure. Since I kept my ovaries, I have no need for any hormone therapy if I don't want it.
My final post op appointment is one month post-op.

Nobody told me about holding a pillow before sneezing or coughing. I remember that it was the middle of summer and I didn't have much sneezing or coughing. My throat did hurt for a bit however, but that was most likely due to anesthesia. I slept on my side a lot, because I naturally roll onto my side whenever I sleep, and I didn't take an effort to sleep on my back. But I don't recall any additional pain issues besides the gas. Oxy did nothing to releave my pain so I don't think I took many of them. I suggest that you still go easy on the exercise, even on days when you feel okay. And you already know about not having sex; although it seems like your recovery will be faster than mine, but you're younger and healthier than I was when I got surgery.

Say Pineapple if you need to sneeze. It works most of the time.

I wonder if your throat is sore bc you were intubated (had a tube down your throat so the surgeon can control your breathing)? Great video. Feel better soon. Btw heating pads and ice packs help for comfort. Drinking lots of water helps too. My qualification: I’m an RN:)

What is the name of the doctor that removed your uterus ? I am 18 with very bad menstrual pain also & every doctor I’ve seen denied me & didn’t care about the way I felt & my well being .

The surgeon who performed my hysterectomy is called Dr. Betty Kung. She is fantastic. However she does work for Kaiser in California, USA. From what I understand, Kaiser doctors and surgeons only take patients who have Kaiser health insurance. So you'd have to live in California and be on Kaiser health insurance to see her. I'm sure there will be other surgeons who will listen to you, it might just be a journey to find one!

Did you have any nausea or vomiting after surgery or from the meds?

    • @BodeRiis

I did throw up on the third day. I'm not sure if it was because of the meds, or because my body just went through this traumatic experience. Or maybe I just had some bad chili :/ The first two days I had no nausea, and for the whole process I only vomited that one time.
