Liesa Shroud of Dusk as commander is a perfect Lifegain Orzhov pick
Curious on your thoughts of Giada Font of Hope making the top five now, perhaps replacing Lyra Dawnbringer as the best angel tribal commander? Her low casting cost gets her on the battlefield quick. And she does amazing to support other angels by both ramping as a mana dork (only for angel spells though) and pumping up your angels with +1/+1 counters. The more angels, the more the counters, even on tokens. For added bonus, flying makes her evasive and vigilance means you can swing for pot shots during combat and still tap for mana afterwards. She’s my pick for angel tribal. But I’d like to hear your opinion. Thanks!
Sigarda was my commander for green white Angel enchantment. It was all about making my board completely untouchable outside of mass exile
we stan aurelia over here, i like using the exemplar of justice one for a mentor focused commander deck, which i recently loved combining with the training mechanic from innistrad
I use Aurelia the warleader as my boros angel commander
Lyra dawnbringer is amazing as a mono white commander, but ya gotta dig deep for better ramp with white. That's why you add in a lot more colorless ramp (oketras monument, sol ring, goldvein pick, treasure vault, cloud key, sword of the animist)and a handful of mono-white humans (Esper Sentinel, Mangara the Diplomat, Intrepid Adversary, Ambitious Farmhand, Ingenious Smith, dawn of hope(enchantment), etc) to make up for it. Also gotta have some good life gain based spells and triggers which there are plenty of. There plenty of white removal to choose from, and plenty of powerful angel creatures. Also if you're running less than 40 lands you're doing it wrong
All really good points. Though 40 lands seems high, I guess its for consistency though as mono white HAS to hit each land drop
@@MTGBear 40 is definitely high. I’ve found 37 to be the sweet spot for my decks. My Golgari Elves is at 36, Orzhov Angels and most of my others at 37. The only one that’s over 38 is my 5c Esika Gods deck, which runs 41 lands currently.
I find Well of Lost Dreams can carry you through games in a Lifegain deck, and a lot more value than Dawn of Hope (I’d still run both if you find you need another Draw engine).
Angels being expensive means that before and after you get to cast your Angels, you end up with a lot of mana waiting for something to do and all those Lifegain triggers give you plenty of chances to make use of it with a surprising amount of flexibility.
Sounds like Grooove e didn’t go tribal under Lyra though, so you’d not get as much use out of the tribal reducers like Starnheim Aspirant, Herald’s Horn and Urza’s Incubator.

@@MTGBear I suppose 40 is high, if budget isn't a limit then you could throw in some pretty good mono white lands like Serra's Sanctum, Emeria the Sky Ruin, and a few others. Add in a mox amber and/or jeweled lotus and ramp shouldn't be much issue at all
Lyra is very good. 40 lands is really high 36 is about right. You need a bunch of ramp to balance out. I play a mono white control build. It's downside is it's slow. The upside is I have a lot of answers. I don't run the typical cleric support cards. I run cards like blind obiedence, crackdown and ghostly prison along with a healthy set of boardwipes. Decree of Justice and starnheim unleashed synergize well together as alternate win conditions. I have been playing white for almost 19 years from standard to extended to legacy and now Commander. This formula works and Lyra is the best no doubt about it
I have an Akroma, Angel of Wrath EDH deck, she's an awesome Voltron commander (don't laugh). I'm not playing it anymore though, because I always end up as the archenemy when my friends see her in the command zone. 😅
Edit: That's why I also built Lyra Dawnbringer. Only 23 Angels in the 99, but lots of token generators and several anthem effects.
Akroma is such a huge threat, do you run her in Lyra?
@@MTGBear Not OG Akroma, but Akroma, Vision of Ixidor plus Akroma's Memorial.
Having both on the battlefield with a few other angels will result in certain death for my opponents.
Sephara got some interesting mechanics as well especially since you can cheat her out by using her effect to pay 1 wight and tap creatures with mana total equal or hier to play her and she makes ur Flying creatures indestructible now idk if that effect makes her indestructible as well
no it says other creatures, so does not protect her. but many other angels have abilities to give indestructible as well. so you can combo those, my deck was also life gain, end most games with 100+ life. i could put in win conditions about the life, but that means taking out something else. and that is not easy for me haha.

Yeah she probably takes it, ramp and scaling counters. Plus its a 2 drop in a tribe that has a lot of 5+ drops. Great card
Aurelia Warleader is the best Boros commander
what about liesa shroud of dusk? She is a pretty good Angel commander, the cost isn't that high and you can punish with a lot of other cards your opponents when they play a spell.
it has a lot of lifelink, it has angels, token creation and if you gain life you can multiply it a lot and the black side of it you can pay life for card draw or other stuff. In a 1v1 you can easily play eather flux resevoir to pay 50 health to deal 50 dmg
Shes a great option for all the reasons you listed and is quite affordable as well. Kamal or Uncle Karl might be a better general but if you're set on an angel, go for it
Avacyn is godlike for commander,a true fatality unless you have an instant. Number 1.
8 mana in a colour not set up to ramp well, and removed by the most common removal spells in the format. Unanswered shes a menace in the 99 shes great, as a commander? Top 10 at best

9:32 almost anything makes her good. Saga focused decks around her are the best in my opinion. Four of the five colors, you get access to a lot of saga focused decks and just 1 saga can break the game. I’ve faced off against a saga only deck using her and my god there was nothing we could do. It was an 8 player game of pros and he had us wrapped around his finger just with sagas and proliferate making them pop off faster

Shes 8 mana and in the worst mono color. Shes so much better in a kaalia list or similar to cheat her out
@@MTGBear Totally disagree. Avacyn is a game changer once she hit the board. More than any other angels and just like Elesh Norn. Her impact worth the high mana cost. And how is « the worst mana color » an argument?
So yes she's immediately impactful but the set up required to get her out and not be disrupted in the meantime is just not reasonable
And mono white has the worst ramp card draw and instant speed interaction, so yes its bad to be in mono white
@@MTGBear "White has the worst ramp" is less and less an valid argument as we get new sets. Avacyn needs mana and set up yes, so is Atraxa in a 4 colors deck and cards relevant to her on the board. And as a creature on the board, Avacyn is more difficult to deal with than Atraxa.
What about Sephara?
Shes amazing for a mono white flyers build or in the 99 of another deck that focuses on fliers.
Overall probably my #7 angel commander. Shes shut down real quick
What about Reya,the dawnbringer (re animator type or patriarch bidding type of EDH)..can u help to build such deck.
White has plenty of recursive effects, but if you’re looking at Patriarch’s Bidding as well, I’m working on updating an Orzhov Angel Tribal EDH deck. Previous version under the 1st Liesa was more Lifegain themed.
Liesa 2.0 is gonna be more Board Wipes and Recursion/Reanimator themed.
I do like the lifegain subtheme in BW. Though I play a lot of extort effects and my favorite card is debt to the deathless. How is new leisa?

Liesa 1.0 drew a lot of hate my way because of the constant -2 Life…guess I didn’t learn my lesson from trying to play Dina at my LGS, seems they killed me so they didn’t have to change their life totals so often…
That being said, Black brought some more removal spells and draw power in Pact of the Serpent and such, though the deck was/is still very heavily White, since, you know, Angels and all. Both the Mono White Lyra version and Orzhov Liesa 1.0 versions did really well at recovering from early life-loss and even got a few wins via Beatdown or Aetherflux Reservoir nuking people.
I still need to cut down another 25 cards to finish Liesa 2.0 Reanimator. Trying to cut down creatures is difficult for me but the creature count is definitely high for a high-mana-cost tribe like Angels, but I also have too many board wipes and am struggling to decide what will be the most useful-cheap wipes vs flexibility or the right mix of the two.
There’s a number of angels that I want to cram into this iteration of the deck that never made the cut before since they didn’t provide Lifegain effects, but are better with ETB effects or just getting reanimated.
Hopefully I can grit my teeth and finish it this week so I can try it out either this weekend or early next week.
@@MTGBear I love Extort so much I built a Mathas deck explicitly for 2HG EDH that is all Extort and efficient Removal and Draw spells so I can clear the path for my partner and keep our life total up-plus Mathas’ Bounty counters are just evil in 2HG.

Atraxa does bring on a lot of hate, especially superfriends builds. I kinda wish she wasn't as good but she's so version

Avacyn is an immediate threat "if not answered". But in reality, if you play EDH with friends, someone will ALWAYS have an answer for avacyn. Everyone will suddenly take note if you cast avacyn. Blue players will try to counter it, White players will STP or POE it, which if they do, you will get set back another turn doing nothing because of the 8 mana you spent casting her left you with nothing else to do.
The only way you can have Avacyn unanswered is that you get political. Beg your opponents to not handle your avacyn. But doing that every game is just pathetic and you better off using another angel commander.

Why list Atraxa? Not a single Atraxa deck contains another Angel in it. Let's be honest: Atraxa is disgusting. Nobody likes to play against it and even the players using Atraxa as their commander hate it.
List is of creatures that are angels, tanked by how effective they are as a commander. Only one was a tribal angel list, Atraxa is one of the best commanders ever, and happens to be an angel
