Eastern painted turtle (Chrysemys picta picta) in Northern Virginia laying eggs in her nest next to a lake. This turtle laid at least seven eggs.

Literally just found a turtle on the trail I'm walking and thought it was laying eggs. Found your video and confirmed it is indeed laying eggs. Watching over it now🙂
A wood turtle comes into my yard every year and lays her eggs in my flower beds. I used to catch turtles growing up. Used to see spotted turtles. Never see them anymore. Only painters.
I see wood turtles so rarely. That's pretty cool you have one laying eggs in your yard.
@@KoawNature Yup, like clockwork every year. When the eggs hatch I take the hatchlings to my local vet and he raises them till they are bigger and have a better chance to survive in the wild.

I have a painted turtle at my house that laid 2 eggs yesterday. I missed getting to see it happen, so seeing your video last night was amazing. My daughter's friend "rescued" the turtle (which she lovingly calls SNURT) and has kept it in a large aquarium these last several years. Had it been me that rescued it, I would have taken Snurt to the nearest large body of water. But, since that's not what happened to this one, I've been enjoying having Snurt as a guest in my home until her owner takes Snurt back. Snurt is a joy to have around. I love her antics and the way she interacts with me and my family.
