    I bought my HW97 almost a year ago. It's an unbelievable rifle, pure quality. I keep track of the shot count on all my guns,i wonder how many shots before I have to service it.

      They are fantastic rifles. Outside or general cleaning and looking after it they can go a long time between services. This one was upgraded which puts an additional strain on parts and it still lasted years before anything happened to it. It was also a hunting rifle so was out in all weathers.

    Your gun is sporting a tbt tuning sticker. This suggests the rear guide was replaced at some point. If the replacement was fractionally too long and not sitting on the piston edge when compressed it would have been weakened and eventually break.

      I do think this is the case. It was a very long time ago now and I believe the spring guide was replaced with a Derlin one. Which I think is standard for a tbt kit.

      part of the instructions on the tbt kit, is to dry fit all the plastic parts into the piston, to ensure the rear spring guide sits flush not proud, tbt will send you a guide set measured to your spring, just drop him a email.

      Good to know thank you. I didn't fit this kit it was already installed when I bought it and had already been used quite a bit. I'm not upset everything wears out with extended use

    definitely been apart a few times in the past, was very easy to remove the trigger block.

      Oh yes for sure. It was second or maybe third hand before I got it.

    as a British army gunsmith , a gunsmith that's worked in three shops over 38 years and a former air rifle importer, pins in guns traditionally ALL come out from left to right . and please buy a £7 set of pin punches lol , its not worth mucking up your holes using a screw driver .PS what power was your rifle on ? there should have been at least 30lb of pressure on that spring when you unscrewed the trigger housing ?

    • @airpoweredreviews
      @airpoweredreviews  2 місяці тому +1

      Yes I unfortunately have misplaced my punches which I didn't realise until I was about to start and I was pressed for time. The air gun runs at about 11.3 ft/lb. As the spring compresses to the rear when not cocked unless using a longer higher power spring there shouldn't be compression on them. I know on other air guns this is different but I haven't seen a hw97 that has had any jigh compression on the spring unless it has been tuned. I would be happy to punch the pins from the other side it was simply the way I have seen it done many times but happy to change if I was doing it wrong. Thank you for taking the time to comment and hope you enjoyed the video?

      @@airpoweredreviews its just in case you come across a gun you never used before or some one asks you to fix an older gun front forsights also come out the same way in old BSA,s etc honestly never stripped a 97 but i have stripped a 100 77,s and 80,s

      I appreciate the advice thank you. A big part of this channel is to get people with more experience to comment and increase my knowledge as I go on. There is always more to learn and ways of improving what you do.

      Good advice sir, as you know more than me, are these pins tapered?, and are the 'shims' in break barrels washers, or real shims in engineering terms to align the barrel?, thank you in advance

    • @Edgunsuk
      @Edgunsuk Місяць тому +2

      @@davidoldboy5425 The breach block at the end of a break barrel barrel , has shims they are there to help the join pivot , so your not wearing away your breach block or the ""jaws"" of the cylinder every time you cock the rifle , as for the pins they are not tapered in any air rifles i have taken apart ... since 1992, my advice above was mainly because they can be tapered in very old air rifles shotguns and fire arms same with the sites , you can also have tapered ring mounts and pins in ring mounts or blocks that rings mounts are mounted to if that makes sense , if you want to watch any gunsmithing on you tube i highly recommend Larry Porterfield at midway USA few hundred videos covering everything including the way old shotguns were blues , which as a qualified blacksmith i didn't even know and its unbelievable !

    wait till you try to fit an after market regulator to a precharged air gun ....scariest thing i have ever done !! , they have 2 rubber seals on them , you slide it in to the air cylinder and have to drill a hole venting to the outside between the seals !!!

      Oh 😳 I think I'm ok thanks. If I ever need something like that doing I'll bring it to you lol 😆 that sounds terrifying

    You need to ask Santa to bring you a correct set of Gunsmith Tools and a Bench for Christmas, not the best idea to use a screw driver as a pin punch

    • @airpoweredreviews
      @airpoweredreviews  Місяць тому

      Yes, as I mentioned in a different comment unfortunately I misplaced my punches and had limited time to get it stripped down. I quite like working on the floor as it gives me much more space to work on and things don't get accidentally knocked over lol.
