    So after 3 yrs, besides the spacers messing up your suspension (I read the comments), have you had any trouble with the Detroit axel suspension parts ?? My KJ is like yours mostly street and very little mud and sand,I am considering in putting on pretty much the same parts and leveling kit as yours .. i don’t mind swapping out balls joint or tie rods it’s the putting the strut back in that blows ass how many miles before you notice the strut/spring sagging ?? Great build btw I like those flat grill KJs

    Hey, fellow central Ohioan! I'm about to replace the suspension on my '05 Liberty CRD with OME shocks/springs and all new components from MOOG. Should I order new strut mounts and rubber spring seats or just re-use them? Do they wear out? And, if you want to try again getting a good video of the job, I'll let you use my Jeep for free! ;)

    • @RockyXTV
      @RockyXTV  6 років тому

      The spring isolators are usually reusable, but if you can get a good deal on them they would be worth replacing. I would also check with OME if the components are compatible with the CRD as some manufactures state that their parts will not work with the diesel. As for making another video, sorry I'll have to pass, the install can be pretty frustrating, but it can be done with a LOT of patience. Thanks for the offer though!

    I have a dragged out question for you, I have the same 05 liberty renegade and want to lift it, I found a rough country lift which was 3" included extended shocks springs and spacers. The description states not for renegade models when I contacted them to ask why they said it binds the cv axle because the renegade is already lifted...I asked of i could just use 2.5" spacers to lift it they said no. I was wondering if you had any issues with your cv axle..I know they suggest keeping it under 3" to avoid binding, do you kow how much is it lifted from jeep? And how they lifted it, or would I be safe with the 2" steel strut spacers and rear spring spacers like you used on yours?

    • @RockyXTV
      @RockyXTV  5 років тому

      First, I do NOT recommend the spacer lift like I used in this video. The lift has sagged and destroyed almost all of the new suspension I installed. This Jeep doesn't even get driven anymore because the suspension is so screwed up. I've also been looking at the RC lift to possibly fix my issues, but saw the same "not for Renegade & CRD" warning as you. The only thing that I have found different on the Renegade suspension from Jeep is that the struts are a little stiffer and this gave them .5 - .75 of lift over the Sport Liberty. This was just in the front as it only leveled the Renegade out, if you notice the Sport and Limited sit a little high in the rear, they all have the same springs back there. When I replaced the struts on mine I found out that you can't even buy the "Renegade" struts as replacements. They consolidated the part down to a single part that will work for all the Liberty models, which is the Sport struts. So in theory, if you replace your struts, you can use the RC lift as you have changed the one suspension part that made it a Renegade. Also a side note, if you do go with the RC lift (or any lift really) be prepared for a battle, the lift can be installed, but it will fight you every step of the way. Even with Sport style struts, everything is still extremely stiff and doesn't want to go back together. Give it time and a lot of patience and it will go together.

      @@RockyXTV shit man thank you so much for clearing that up I spent days scanning the internet and writing other lift kit companies trying to figure out why my suspension was any different being a renegade. Now ill just have to decide if I want to go through the hassle of a lift, I was planning on new struts anyways and like you said there didn't seem to be a renegade specific strut. I appreciate your reply man and it's a shame your not driving it anymore your project came out wicked. Thanks again.

      I hope to get her back on the road this spring, she might be back at stock height and with stock wheels and tires though. If I lift it again when I fix everything I'm just gonna go all out with a really good complete kit, but the kits I'm looking at are anywhere from $1400 up to $3500. Don't think I'm ready to dump that much in it yet, I like her, but I'm not sure if I like her that much...

      @@RockyXTV lol I wouldn't want to put that much into mine she's rusting out good and I'm not sure how much life is left in her...would you say those polyurethane lifts from day star are just as bad for your suspension as the steel spacers?

    • @RockyXTV
      @RockyXTV  5 років тому

      The DayStar kit goes inside the strut rather than on top like my kit. I've heard both good and bad things about this kit ( honestly more bad than good ) The biggest drawback is that it has to go inside your strut, this means having to take the strut apart. Usually not a big deal on most vehicles, just get a cheapo set of Harbor Freight spring compressors and go for it. This is not the case with the Liberty, the "standard" spring compressors won't work on their struts as they are more "coil-overs" than struts, so you can't get the compressors in between the coils of the spring. This usually means having a shop with a specialized press put the plates in for you and that adds to the cost of the lift. I've also heard quite a few complaints of premature strut failure because of the added compression. At the end of the day though, I can't say 100% one way or the other as I've never personally had this lift. I just seems that the Liberty just never wanted to be lifted unless you throw a ton of money at it and get a JBA kit.

    Now you got me a little bit worried. I'm Monday I ordered my lift kit for my 02 liberty and by the looks of things it's the same lift as yours.. now as to regards of the front of your Jeep sagging. I don't quite understand why the front is sagging so much. I was wondering is your front springs factory or are they from Detroit Axle?

    • @RockyXTV
      @RockyXTV  5 років тому

      Front springs/struts, upper & lower control arms, control arm bushings, ball joints, sway bar end links, sway bar bushings, inner & outer tie rods & ends, hubs, basically every suspension component was new and installed at the same time as the lift. The "over the strut" type lift seems to put the entire front suspension in a bind causing parts to prematurely fail. I've spoke with quite a few people that have ended up with the same problems with this type of lift. I got a feeling that something was up with this lift (in the front, the rear is fine) when I finished installing it and went to get an alignment. The guys at the shop said "we got it as close as we could, everything seems to be a little tight" We figured it was due to everything being new. It went out of alignment after about 1K miles, took it back in and they corrected it and said everything was tight, so they couldn't say why the alignment went out that fast. After the 3rd alignment in about 5-6K miles they said it was most likely the lift. Also after installing this kit, I let the Jeep down off the jacks so I could tighten everything on the ground so it was under its own weight as to not bind anything. I noticed that the front was way up in the air, it measured out to nearly 6 inches of lift over stock! I had to drive it for a few miles and hit some bumps before it settled down to where it should be. For the first 6 months it would do this if I had to jack the front end up for anything, I would let it back down and the front was back up in the air, very strange...

    • @Urbanight
      @Urbanight 5 років тому +1

      @@RockyXTV I really appreciate you taking the time to let me know what you have done. I have pretty much the same lift as you got I believe. I know you are rushed to get done so I couldn't see everything on your videos. That's why I was so curious to why it was binding up. The lift from what I see should it be binding up at all. Now as far as the suspension components that is a possibility. I think that Detroit Axle and from the videos that I've seen people complaining about Detroit Axle makes up our parts. I believe that that's what's wrong with your front end and it should be corrected by putting the original struts back on along with the lift kit that you have on. I'm going to be doing the same thing in the weeks to come and I will make some videos on it. Hopefully this will help you and other people out. or it will prove to be a big failure on my part and I'll be in the same boat as you....

    • @RockyXTV
      @RockyXTV  5 років тому

      Most of the binding comes from moving the strut downwards with the spacer. This seems to put an excessive downward and slightly outward force on the upper & lower control arms. In order to get this spacer and strut back in place you have to compress the suspension quite a bit, this causes the strut to be partially compressed when the vehicle is merely at ride height and no load applied. I can't say for sure if it was the Detroit Axle parts or the lift, but I can say the lift did have a little to do with it. I just subbed to your channel, sorry to hear something went bad, I hope all is well now. I look forward to seeing your videos!

Here is the part number for the tool at AutoZone 25296, it's called OEM Inner Tie Rod Tool and it was $20 to buy. When installing the new ones I had to use the traditional(tube style) inner tie rod tool because the new ones were like normal tie rods. I hope this at least gives you some idea. Like what you are doing, But you could slow down on some parts to explain what you are doing for that certain part. Like when you were putting the spacer on the front coil you could show it up close and explain what you had to do.
    Just some advice. I absolutely love your videos though man keep up the great work.

      Yeah, I have a ways to go on my video production and I do get ahead of myself sometimes. I will work on all of that in the future. Thanks for watching!

      Sorry about that. This part of the build was hectic with the shear size of the install and pressure from companies to get content out. I'm not saying anything bad about any companies that have supported Rocky X TV, they just want things done on their time, I hope you understand. Thanks for watching!

    Detroit Axle has terrible reviews, how are the parts holding up?

    • @RockyXTV
      @RockyXTV  5 років тому +1

      I can't honestly give their parts a fair review because of the lift kit I installed. The lift destroyed most of the front suspension, so the Detroit Axle stuff didn't get a fair chance. Their parts do have a 10 year warranty though, so I imagine they can't be that bad.

      Rocky X TV I ended up going with Moog just for the peace of mind. But I might give DA a try in the future.

      I went with MOOG for sway bar bushings and rear coils. Can't go wrong with MOOG!

    WARNING: Hello I bought a Detroit Axle kit for my Silverado and the little silver nuts with the nylon are to soft of a metal to use safely on a vehicle. I just used a little 8 inch hand wrench and the nut pulled the threads right out .So I hope nobody uses these nuts and bought better nuts. Somebody could get killed driving down the road with these faulty low grade nuts.

    detroit axle is garbage! they have the same garbage parts as the cheaper china child labor options. even if you order a 100 part set, they will only warranty out 2 individual pieces out of the order. and they make you pay shipping! so expensive its almost what they charge to start with!
