Definitely a must have for editors using synology. Unfortunately, fewer care about the topic and many editors are not NAS nerds. If you do the same for Unraid and Nextcloud with step by step instructions you will become a real hero !

I vote that every project is saved on its own microSD card and hidden in a potato planted in the back yard. Put it in a container and call it your potato server!

There are also companies where you can run your own HDDs offsite, like "server housing" but instead "HDD housing". HyperBackup can do local encryption before upload, so no problem at data security.

Thanks so much for this video! Can you make another video pertaining to showing how you organize your files and setup resolve? Do you have the resolve project file location save to this folder? Also what about cache etc?

3.2.1 rules as far as I know are:
minimum of 3 copies of data
minimum the copies are in 2 different media
and minimum of one copies are stored offsite/different location.
very nice video man as always.

oh and my backup strategies would be to rsync the snapshot to another larger and slower NAS.
been testing it using 2 truenas and working great.

You can also use back blaze as cloud backup it’s a flat price for unlimited storage

I use zerotier for connecting my travel nas copies to my main nas in real time and only gets turned on when I'm travelling works like a local network drive and is really fast when on 5G.

Excellent. But I have a question , how to get video thumbnails in Synology ?

Just a heads-up - Synology Drive's realtime sync messes with some software causing it to not work properly. For example, Vivado/Vitis (AMD/Xilinx IDE to work with FPGAs and SoCs) is known to throw mysterious errors when working on a project that is being synced in a real time. But OneDrive and Google Drive cause the same problem, so it's not a Synology fault, but that of the software. Still, it's useful to know that if you move your project into folder with real time sync and the software starts behaving strangely, it could be that this sync is indeed a problem. In my case I solved this problem by doing daily scheduled backups in the middle of the night instead of real time, which works for me most of the time, but when I do feel like I did something worth backing up immediately, I can always force the backup process at any time on an ad-hoc basis.

Yeah I never actively work on a project in two separate places so I’ve never run into this issue but it makes sense.

All my important stuff is backed up with back blaze. As wrong as this is going to sound, my file/media server runs deskop windows OS. Backblaze doesn't support server operating systems. This lets me back up my whole 20 bay box for $7.00 a month.
