Today we booked a flight to Madeira - because of your amazing videos - no kidding! I've watched them again and again over the past couple of days.... ♥ Would you tell me when those videos were shot (which month)? We'll go there in May. Aaaand do you by any chance recall which route you took exactly? I read that at the moment the eastern route is closed and the only way - there and back - leads through the western route. Since you hiked through tunnels I assume you took the western route... Thanks for letting me know :)
Hi! I went in May as well! All info can be found here: www.worldwanderista.com! Eastern route is closed since a very long time so I guess I did the Western ;) I'm glad I could inspire you! Have fun over there!!
@@Worldwanderista I´m afraid of heights is this to difficult, will I turn back. This looks so beautiful, like to be able to go, is it difficult to meet people on the way, is the path to narrow.
@@sandrab3768 on my blog you can find several articles about Madeira www.worldwanderista.com/hiking-in-madeira-portugal/ My advice is to just go and take a look for yourself. I can't say wether you would dare to do it or not. Everyone is different. But it is sure worth it!
Great video of my favorite island Madeira. I used to live in Portugal long time ago but never visited the Madeira! I find it specifically interesting that you did it alone all by yourself. A truly Brave woman. :) I will visit Madeira soon.
Amazing! I didn't realise Madeira had so many cool hiking trails until recently. Putting it on my list of places to go to once the madness is over. Great video.
I searched up 'hiking vlogs' and your video was one of the first! I'm so glad to see that where I was born is finally getting recognition for it's beauty and not just Ronaldo lol. Beautifully shot video!
Just completed that walk from Poiso via Arieiro to Pico Ruivo. It took all day and it was harder than I thought. Definitely not for faint hearted or people suffering from vertigo. Totally recommend this walk.
Looking forward to my trip to madeira now. Hope this hike is open in dec-jan though. Such great views and almost never saw a more rewarding hike in my life!! X thnx for sharing
A wonderful, amazing video, I am from Madeira Island, but now I live in the Philippines, I never did that walk before, I will one day, thank you so much for this amazing footage from those beautiful mountains, God Bless...
I did the Pico do Arieiro to Pico Ruivo walk this September after seeing this video and I also fed the lizards on the wall at the top of Arieiro. It's very difficult to give a true impression just how beautiful it is up there. It was a great walk but tough near Pico Ruivo climbing all the stairs so anybody planning the walk who sees this make sure you're fit as most of the walk is pretty easy with a the hard part coming on the climb to Pico Ruivo. Thanks for the inspiration though. Glad I challenged myself to do it.
You really seemed happy there, despite the very tough journey. The video makes people want to be there and see it with their own eyes! I am always amazed when I return there. I have done this track before and is demanding, barely any shelter either so congratulations for overcoming your fears and to overcome the hard journey. PS:It is possible to go one way from pico do Arieiro to Ruivo and then from there go to Achada do Teixeira (which is way shorter and an amazing way to get down and end the journey as you get closer to the clouds !), you will need someone to pick you up, though. If you reached Pico Ruivo you probably passed by a house (that gives support to travellers) and from there you can take the road to Achada do Teixeira. Just something for future travellers!
5 Month ago i´ve walked the same road and that all because of you ! Re watching this Video now gives me the biggest Smile ever ❤ Wish i had met you all the way up to Pico Ruivo :-))))
This is the video that inspired me to do this same trip. Took many years to get to do this. BUT so glad I did. It is not a easy hike, BUT probably the most the beautiful hike you can ever do. Thank You for the inspiration . I completed this July 2021
I loved your wonderful video. Two years ago we visited Madeira and wandered all over the island. It's such a beautiful place. Thank you for enabling us tho relive the memories.
Thank you for this fabulous video! During the lockdown, it's twice more amazing to see something this beautiful. Now I definitely want to visit Madeira ASAP :) I'm also afraid of heights, so your example is really inspiring. Thank you!
Stayed in Madeira for over a year in 2008/9 and covered at least 20 different walks, some easy some tougher but this one there and back was the most memorable. The only walk I did where my legs ached a bit for the next couple days, definitely advise walking sticks though and plenty of rests plus take a fully charged camera (or two)
J’ai fait cette fabuleuse randonnée l’été dernier, sans doute la plus belle que j’ai faite. C’est un très beau vidéo, j’ai l’impression de la revivre en la regardant. Merci !
Hi Joëlle I came across your vlogs quite by accident. I have been thinking of going to Croatia and Madeira for the beauty I see there, low and behold, you have been to both places! I am now addicted to your travel videos. You have brought out the best of your travels in the videos. Kind regards, -=ray
What a hike, I'll be on the island in 2 weeks. Hopefully I'll have some sunny days as you on your awesome hike. I would like to try this route as well. Regards...
I hiked in Madeira in 1990. On the easier paths I was accompanied by my father and daughters, but one day I wanted to go on my own and take a more challenging hike. I was in a a pretty good condition then, but the guides warned me not to go alone. Well, it was quite a levada! There were no safety ropes on the steep side, and the path was high up. Anyway there were some plants climbing on the mountain wall, and I took hold on them. I never forget that experience.
spectacular video...I did the same trek last week (early January) and so the colors were nothing like you've shown here. Still, the hike is worth it no matter what time of year.
No flowers, green...on the day I went we got hit by rain storm on top of Pico Ruivo and so visibility was bad. Overall, still a fantastic hike. Most awesome is the razor's edge.
The hole route (Pico do Arieiro - Pico Puivo - Pico do Arieiro) is about 14 km and 800 m difference in altitude. Very strong way, but for average fit persons it's possible to achive this goal.

Wow, incredible! Just a quick question - I am really, really afraid of highs, so I am afraind I will not be able to pass when there is an empty space on the right and on the left. Ale there many spots like these? ANy of them not supported with the ropes on the side? I would much appreciate your answer ;)
Thanks! If you’re really afraid of heights you will probably get scared a LOT. Paths are narrow and steep, to be honest; that little rope won’t help much if you trip. So if you are afraid and not steady because of it, I won’t recommend it. Every guide book states “don’t do this hike if you suffer from vertigo” I think that says enough.
