Wrong is wrong no matter what. You took the photo and it is you who deserves to be credited with it and no one else. Don't feel bad.

About the picture drama: I think it would've been different if it was the girl's personal Instagram page but because it was like a photography page and she posted it there, it was like she was automatically claiming it as her own, like she took the picture. And even further, she gave Universal permission to post it and that wasn't her right to do. You two shouldn't really feel bad. You have to live and learn and hopefully she'll be more honest from now on. You guys rock! Don't get discouraged over this :)
I am always impressed by the quality of your vlogs. I know you both put a lot of time and effort into filming your life every day and I just wanted to say that they always look so good!
My Girlfriend and I started doing the credit card thing a week ago or so, using a Southwest airlines card to rack up points for Disney trips. It's a great idea if you keep on top of it

Don't feel bad. Her Instagram name was [her name ]photography. She was claiming it as hers. It sucks, but it's the Internet and people figure it out when someone is stealing/copying someone else.

I appreciate your reaction to the whole Instagram thing. I saw your post on Twitter but didn't follow the comments. It's a challenge when you have followers and people who want to help but the help has to be done right and let you guys deal with it. It's difficult to control how it's handled if too many people are involved, especially if it is a kid who made a mistake. It's good of you guys to talk about it like this. Good on ya. :)
I'm so excited you're finally getting the chance to read Kingdom Keepers, Jenn! I'm sure you're gonna REALLY enjoy the book more and more as you get deeper into it. I was for sure instantly hooked after the first couple of chapters. Best of luck on the Capital One Venture card! I hope it all works out as you intended. That would be awesome for you guys to be able to use the extra money to go on more trips in the future. You guys are definitely not bad people for claiming what is yours. I agree that some of the comments on Universal's Instagram of Tim's photo were pretty harsh, which the little girl definitely didn't deserve. I'm sure everyone including the little girl knew your intention wasn't to be a cyberbully, but to claim ownership of your own photo. Either way, plagiarism is still illegal and she learned a valuable lesson that it's wrong to take photos without giving credit to the owner. If she's a fan of you guys then i'm sure she'll see this video and understand that you meant no harm. You guys are seriously two of the nicest people on this planet. Don't be so hard on yourselves.

It's important for them to learn young, she probably didn't know, but if she had done that with a major company, she could have lost some serious money, so you did her a favor really
With regards to your photo being used by someone else, i personally think it doesn't matter what the age of the person is who is using it, the photo is yours. If you took that photo in real life and someone stole your camera you would run after them, would you not?
Ok, so it's only a picture scenery but the point of the matter is that was YOUR moment and YOU took the picture. The fact that it was a young girl that stole it only tells me that she isn't fully aware of the consequenes of using someone else's pic without permission. Who knows, in a few years time she could be using Angelina Jolie's pic on a dating site. She has now learnt her lesson no doubt.
The credit card thing i have learnt from in the past and i vowed never to have another. I save up for things now if i want them it's the only way of disciplining myself.
I think the issue was more with people probably bullying her to take it down when people shouldn't have been as rude about it, and so they feel like they caused others to be mean to a young girl. Yes, she shouldn't have done that, but people should also learn not to be so rude to others online when they can do it in a nicer way.
+Hali Brookman I agree with what you are saying about the bullies, but every child needs to learn how the rest of the world reacts to things sometimes. It's a reality of what happens on the internet this day and age. She cannot control rude people's actions (comments), just her own reaction to it. Hopefully her parents are helping her with this ordeal.
+Hali Brookman Well said. The issue here isn't really that they reported the stolen image. They had every right to. If people didn't overreact to the situation and start being nasty, it wouldn't be bothering them as much. Plus the fact that it was someone younger who didn't really know any better. They didn't do anything wrong, but I can completely understand why they feel bad about the situation. People always blow things way out of proportion on the internet. People need to chill!

I had a brilliant idea, and it may have already been suggested, but you should put a watermark on your photos... may take longer to post but atleast no one can take credit for your photos.

Glad you are reading Kingdom Keepers. It is basically written for teenage readers but I have read all 7 books in the series and have enjoyed every one. And as you know I'm 72 years old.

Guys, don't feel bad. The thing about blowups online is they're over as quickly as they start. It'll all be forgotten in 24 hours and people will have moved on to the next thing.
The truth is, young people probably know better than others about how tech and social media works so she's probably not stressing over it as much as you guys are! In the end, she likely knew she shouldn't have taken the photo and getting caught by people as nice as you is probably a good, and easier lesson learned than it could have been down the road with someone much less forgiving.
It's like 50f/10c here today and we have not had snow here for about 2 years. Snow on the mountains but not in the city. Vancouver the California of Canada.
there is no reason to apologize for feeling and reacting the way that you did. it is something that you captured for your memories with Jenn and you have every right to feel this way. it should not matter how old the person is that has done this. it is the principal of it all. we follow you guys because of who you are and for how honest and upfront the both of you are. Sorry to hear about the photo drama. Rough situation for sure. I can understand why you guys feel so bad about it, but the thing of it is that what this person did was wrong, and it wasn't like you guys attacked her, or told any of us to attack her for you. As for the people who felt the need to attack her, it's a real shame and that wasn't right either. But there's not really much you guys can do about that. You guys are certainly not terrible people, keep up the great work!

I understand your concern about the picture. kids/teens parents are not able to truly monitor what they do which makes it hard to guide them in right and wrong with social media. I think she needed to learn if your gonna share, you have to tag/list who's pic it is. tough lesson but I feel she will understand it can be serious. you may have saved her from a bigger innocent mistake ya know. thanks for your outreach as I'm sure she will see your video
I would have been upset too. Don't feel bad. I have a family member (my stepdads sister) that reshares my pictures on her wall. She's not in the pictures or was even there. I have to now write, "please don't share", whenever I post pictures. Ticks me off !
I'm a professional photographer and this happens all the time. The public does not understand we make our living off of our work. Everyone needs to be educated with what copyrights are.

Tim that kid stole something and was getting credit for something she didn't do herself. The punishment was harsh but hopefully she's young enough but old enough to learn what she did was wrong.

Sour cream on chili is absolutely a thing. Actually when I'm trying to be healthy I use plain Greek yogurt and I can't even tell the difference. Tastes great!

Over TWO FEET of snow here in South Central, Pennsylvania. Still snowing. Might hit about 2 1/2 feet by the end.
This was honestly so informative. I'm 19, currently unemployed, unfortunately, but in the future when I do do my taxes, this definitely made me less confused.
P.S. I still love Jen's hair so much.

Adam posted a vlog earlier about the meet up. Hope the turn out is good. Stay warm though. It's cold and windy. Someone told me earlier there was snow in Gainesville, FL and I live just outside of G'ville and didn't see any. But it's still very cold! I'm ready for it to warm up.
Sour Cream is awesome in chili. So is rice and avocados. There's all kinds of good thing that can go in chili. Some people like Freetos in chili too.

With the world of the interwebs, a simple thing as a picture can become problematic. But, the right thing has been done. Don't fret. Tim n Jenn you guys are Awesome and extremely giving of yourselves. Good things will come to you. Have a great day :) :)
You should still keep all your receipts and reconcile all charges with each statements. Sometimes merchants could end up charging your more than what you authorized. And especially with restaurants, when you leave tip, you can double check to make sure it matches. Had a friend run into a situation where the restaurant charged more than what she left.
It does not matter who it was. Don;t feel bad. It could have been someone looking to make something off your picture. It was your picture. She learned her lesson. That's not cyber bullying. People were telling her she did something wrong. Anyway.. trapped here with 2 feet of snow.. with 3 to 4 ft drifts.
The Capital One Venture card is excellent for travel. We do the same thing where we use it like our debit card and pay it off at the end of the month for the points. It's super easy to redeem your travel points too.
My parents have an old cardboard beer box that is about 20 years old to keep their receipts in. Its a terrible system.
My dad has the Southwest rewards credit card. He uses it for big purchases so we can get points to use towards flights. We've gotten 3 of us down to Orlando on two separate trips using just the points!! I guess it's different since you guys don't fly that often, but hey, just throwing it out there.

People stealing photo's happens all the time to me. Granted my situation is little different. I take photos of products for the retail store I work at so that we can have somewhat professional photo's to post online on ebay/etsy and such. I see people stealing my photos all the time and using them to sell the same thing. I just let it go but it can be very irritating knowing I spent a good 20-30 minutes taking the photos and editing them, only to have someone else come along and use them as well.
For me personally, I may start putting a watermark on the photos before I post them, makes it harder for other people to use them.
Today i had to shovel like 35 inches plus of snow. Aww god my parents call me so old (im only 14) because i am complaining about my back. Ugh it hurts. And i have midterms this week so I have to study a whole bunch. :'(
we have a chase credit card we use for everything, even some bills and pay off each month. no interest and cash back, plus builds credit. saving the cash back for vacations too

Yeah I was really starting to feel bad for that little girl. Im sure she didn't do it with intent of stealing. BUT u ive and learn. and I hope she is a strong girl with a supportive family. I wish u could reach out to her. We had a 15 year old kid in our neighborhood that vandalized some cars. at first I was really mad but afterwards I thought about the rest of his life dealing with his mistake and we reached out to support him with the situation.

You two didn't personally make a rude comment and you can't control what other people say. That's really sad people have to jump straight to being rude instead of just helping direct the girl in the right thing to do. Maybe you could send her a comment on the Instagram picture saying you are happy she is enjoying your photos or something.. Sorry, I don't use social media so I'm not completely sure how it works.

I watermark all my photos either through the watermark app or deviantart.com after i manipulate the photo

Honestly i think you guys done the rite thing . I no its only a photo but as you said if she wasnt told off she could have thought it was ok to keep taking credit for other peoples photos . I think she learned the hard way . But you learn from your mistakes .
When you guys post images try and watermark them. My friend has a Disney Instagram account and she watermarks them. I mean only if you want the credit. I usually do art on photoshop and post it on tumblr and when I post it I always write "Enjoy and if you reuse it please give credit" There is a thin line just gotta be careful thats all. :)

I wouldn't worry about the girl who stole your picture, she's one of those accounts that will take photos and claim them as her own to get likes and follows. She's one of those people that if they don't get enough likes or follows on their pages, they flip out and it will "ruin their lives". It's ridiculous. But don't sweat it, you did the right thing and it happens all the time to multiple instagram, tumblr, pinterest, etc pages. We all just try to give credit to where it's due and protect it from those who false claim it. The internet is a weird place for sure.
yay Jenn! YAY for Kingdom Keepers! I finished book 1 and checked out book 2 from the library. I agree with a couple of people that have said that they got more into it after the first few chapters. at first I felt silly getting excited about a tweenish type book but whatevs it's a great series so far! I'd love to hear your reaction once you're done reading it!
my simple 2 cents about the photo issue, as an artist, I get your initial reaction. I would have felt the same way. the slap on the wrist by telling her that it wasn't right for her to pass off the photo as her own wasn't bad. you can't control what other people said to her. and also, Universal asked for permission IF she was 18 or over to reply back. so if she wasn't and did it any way that wasn't smart on her part either. it was a sucky situation and I'm sorry yall had that happen. hopefully she will look you guys up and see your heartfelt apology. you both are stand-up genuine folks!

My 9 year old knows about plagiarism, they teach it in elementary school, don't let it get to you, you can't control anyone but yourself. The Internet is a crazy place, word travles quickly, maybe that person needs to check out the Phineas and Ferb - Cyberspace rules of the road PSA. The Internet is forever. Hopefully a lesson was learned.

I would say you did the right thing, without a doubt. The user name was made to think that she was a photographer and the universal attention could have led to her making money on photos that was not hers. Hopefully this will make her think twice next time.

You were in the right but you want to check on her that she understands it's what she did that was wrong but you didn't intend for her to feel bullied. That's what I would do. BTW I think it's very compassionate of you guys to worry about her.
