    Whatever you do, also put mask around the crown stem so that the dust does not get inside.

    I have just recently discovered Vostok watches. This is a great instructional video. I wish everyone could do as good a job of explaining what they're doing. I also appreciated the commentary from the dog at a couple of key places in the video.

    Thanks for this video, I have followed your instructions and it definately makes the watch look less cheap. I only did the bezel though and the contrast between bezel and body looks great.

    Mine is 090679 and did I the bezel mod you suggested. My watch already comes bead blasted but the bezel was shiny chrome. After your mod the watch became everything that I wanted it to be in fact I almost bought a replacement bezel in the likeness of the one I have now .. today! Prior to your video I did not have the courage to put the bezel on scotchbrite but I just did it and it came out way better than I could’ve imagined ... you actually save me about $25, thank you so much.

    I used the technique as demonstrated in your video on my shinny bezel. It took no more than five minutes for me to transform the said bezel to a brushed unit. Thanks for sharing your experience...

    I used to have Vostok Amphibia, but it had round case, 300 meter waterproof and no auto. I had to wind it every day, but it was really really good.

    I found you. Thank you for the demonstration. I did exectly the same thing on the same bazzel. I put this bazzel on a vostok komandirskie, with a bund strap. Very different approach.

    I could brush the Bezel by repeatedly turning the sponge at one direction while holding the Bezel in place with my hand and the result was wonderful!

    I have a Komandirskie on its way and this was very helpful! I also want to replace the hands and no other video I watched mentioned pulling the crown to the time setting placement before removing it.

    Great video. I really like the contrast you did between the brushed and polished areas. Thanks for doing this video, I've been waiting to see how you did it. Cheers.

    Thanks, NICE mod! Idea: dissolve the numeral paint from the bezel, buy a small vial of lume powder or premixed lume paint and fill the numeral/dash engravings with lume, then hit it with some clear coat- or at least the 12:00 pip.

    Thanks for the video! My Komandirskie had a similar issue with getting the bezel off and I managed to leave a bunch of scratches, revealing the brass :(
    I think my next purchase will be a #420 case and I'll attempt brushing it.

    Is there a way to polish the watch later, after this mod has been applied, to get it to look like before the mod? Just in case I don't like the result.

    • @WatchGeek
      @WatchGeek  5 років тому +2

      Yes, bit it's harder to get the polished look, you need to know what you're doing

    • @waris3732

      My advice would be to brush it lightly again to remove any heavy scratches and then get some car polish. Should work well

    • @gabrielM1111
      @gabrielM1111 2 роки тому

      @Watch Geek take it to a jewelry. You need a high speed polishing wheel with 2 different compounds, regular and polish

    Hello, nice vid. I really want to give my bezel and case this same brushed finish. The store in my area only seem to have the orange scotch brite pads. Will that be an issue? Is there much difference that you know of between the different colored pads?

    What about bezel flutes? I have a homage Addiesdive 1000m and the bezel flutes are polished which does not fit somehow as watch is shiny like it has diamonds on the top edges. I just hate the look of it. It would be better if they just let it be same as case brushed. Should I try with small dremel to brushed it out? Any idea?

  • @MateusViccari
    @MateusViccari 3 роки тому

    Can I do the same on a komandirskie bezel, since it's chrome plated brass?

  • @bert2530
    @bert2530 3 роки тому

    But didn’t you damage the case while popping the bezel? Just above the crown?
    Happened to me, but I manage to sand, polish and then brush the case out evenly.
    Luckily enough.

    Just did this same exact mod and love it. Having a heck of a time getting the crown to catch back in place though. Everytime I think I have it, it pops back out when I give it a gentle tug. Feel like I must be doing something wrong. Any tips would be appreciated!

    • @WatchGeek
      @WatchGeek  4 роки тому +2

      The crown has to be pulled all the way to the outer most position before you remove it, otherwise because of its construction it won't click back when you try to assemble.
      So take out the movement, put the crown back, then pull it to the last click, then remove it, place the movement back into the case and then push it in

    Your videos go from strength to strength, I think you have started me off on adding to my collection. What I do like is that you show things about watches and then go on to explain them. One thing though that is quite annoying, is that every time I click the "Purchase Amazon" link the watches are Currently Unavailable, not just this watch but all watches, or am I just being unlucky.

    HI: I just completed this process but something went wrong reinstalling the crown. I think it left the second position because it does not catch in the watch. I pushed in the detent during reinstall, same way as during removal. I don't want to ruin this watch. Can you advise me?

    • @WatchGeek
      @WatchGeek  3 роки тому +2

      Take the movement out then install the crown, pull it all the way out to the last position and then pull it out using the detent, put the movement back as push in the crown

    I have the 100XXX case with kind of straight lugs, any tips on how I could brush it straight up/down instead of curved?

    • @WatchGeek
      @WatchGeek  6 років тому +2

      It will be difficult since there is a lip and crystal. Maybe cut out sand paper to follow the curvature of the crystal and then move it straight down to get even brushing

    What kind of scotch-bright would you recommend? I want to mod my vostok further! :) also, I have an atlas style bezel (polished), do you think scotch-bright would work on the part where the grip/teeth are?

    • @WatchGeek
      @WatchGeek  5 років тому

      I used a cheap dish washing spunge, just tare off the bottom part, and it should work on any metal surface

    • @timur7381

      @@WatchGeek are there no other sizes for the mesh though? Maybe there's a finer scotchbright to get a smoother shine? Just exploring the options, I have the sponge at home lol

    A lot of these watches have non stainless cases so the finish is chrome plating. You're not going to be able to give chrome a brushed finish as it's a clear coat on top of the nickel plating. Beware before you start.
