@@RockstarEater We even have a dish called Rellenitos, that is like mashed plantain, filled with sweet beans inside and then fried, you can see that everywhere in Guate.
I agree that was very Guatemalan! Next time make sure there some cheese on there as well. Or in El Salvador, you would use crema salvadoreña.

I lived in Guatemala for a few years and I'm telling you NOBODY makes refried beans better than los Chapines!!! Refried black beans are almost meaty even though they contain no meat. Absolutely delicious.

Facts most of these dishes are for special occasion. Chucitos and tamales are pretty often in my house though. Aswell as rice and beans or plantain and beans.
There is a plantain dish with stuffed blended, refried beans called the relleno.

To be precise the Mixta is almost a thing on its own, but the Shuco is the real guatemalan hot dog, well kinda...
Mixta is one “dish”…!!
Hot Dog is a different “dish”
The common ingredient in both dishes, is the wiener…!!
But you can dress your mixta or hot dog with the same ingredients, except one dish has a tortilla and other dish has bread 🥖 or a hot dog bun….!! Now, there’s a hot dog version called “shuco”…… it’s dressed with guacamole, cabbage, catsup, mustard, mayo, and whatever else you like…. There’s also a shuco of chorizo, carne, salchicha, and they quite good too…!!! But mixta and hot dog, are two different foods…

My favorite refried beans are the black refried beans. I ate them every morning and every chance I got, in Cancun, Quintana, Mexico!

Thick tortillas, a bit different to mexican style and taste. Normally you don't use oil but limestone pouder so it doesnt stick to the cocking surface...

That was not kak ik. Kak ik is a mayan ceremonial dish. It got to be eaten with tamalitos, a big o piece of turkey got to come out of the bowl. Jocon, suban ik, pollo guisado , pollo en estofado are other guatemalan dishes.

I’m from Guatemala and the garnachas we make them differently first we gat a tortilla then we put oil on then we get them at out it on top of the tortilla then put cheese on it fresh cheese then we put some non-spicy sauce but the garnachas your eating were smaller than usual but that’s fine but yeah we make them differently and they are bomb! :)

Well, my favorite food is, well a lot - starting with Pepian, Jocón, Paches, Tamales, Chuchitos, Shucos, Sopa de Tortilla (Guatemalan style), Frijoles Negros Volteados, Mixtas, Atol de Elote, Elotes Asados, Rellenitos y Pan de Guate. Yes Guatemalan refried black beans are the best, also i had the Guatemalan hot dog in guatemala city but with hotdog bun call shuco very good👌 you should try the tamales, paches, chuchitos, caldo de pata, etc etc 😋👍🇬🇹

Guatemalan food comes from the indigenous Mayan people! Viva Guatemala!!
Remember before there were borders, it was mayan territories. South mexico to Central American. Thats why our dishes have similarities, however we've all made changes to our dishes and made them our own per country

Ya en serio, piensa que las tres cocinas son en su mayoría una misma pieza musical interpretada por diferentes orquestas........ Cada quien recuerda los sabores de su niñez, cuando andas fuera de tu tierra y no hay cocina de tu tierra natal soportas comer lo que está a la disposición, pero siempre estarás dispuesto a buscar la cocina que conoces y añoras y sobre todo harás todo lo posible para obtener esos sabores olores y texturas la mayor parte del tiempo que puedas....... Fijate en la tortilla la mexicana es una tortilla pequeña y delgada usualmente hecha en proceso industrial mientras que las tortillas guatemaltecas son palmeadas (acá la tortillera uso un molde, quizá porque perdió práctica) y más gruesas y conforme te desplazas hacia el oriente de Guatemala encontrarás tortillas más grandes y gruesas pasando por LAS MEMELAS Y LUEGO LOS PISHTONES, hasta llegar a los TICUCOS salvadoreños ya fuera de Guatemala, insisto quizá misma pieza musical diferentes orquestas. No vuelvas a confundir el concepto.
