"There are shining moments of brilliance, surrounded by utter monotony..." Well, that's war for 'ya. "And this is coming from someone who likes to play Aurora." Oh. Oh dear.
@Hatwox It's an *incredibly* dry 4X strategy game. I *was* going to make a joke about the fun of planet-to-missile tube supply chain managment, but...well, let me just show the warhead part of the missile design section of the wiki: "Missiles create triangular holes in armor (also note the article on Armor). For example, a strength-4 warhead will apply the first three damage points to the first armor level before the fourth damages the second level (see diagram on the right). The most efficient warhead damage sizes for armor piercing are therefore square numbers: 4, 9, 16, 25, 36, etc., because that's the minimum amount you need to penetrate armor level 1,2,3,4,5 etc. Note the difference between strength-9 and strength-10 warheads in the diagram: the 9th point of damage will penetrate the deepest, the 10th point however will just scratch the first armor layer again. Only damage that gets through armor will damage internal ship components (see Internal Damage). A strength-25 warhead will penetrate four levels of undamaged armor and cause one point of internal damage. If the target has only three levels of armor, the same warhead causes four points of internal damage. Finally, Shock Damage to internal ship components can result from severe explosions, even if they don't penetrate the armor. The larger the explosion, the greater the chance of causing shock damage." That's JUST for the warhead of conventional missiles: there's also size, engine type, fuel consumption, engine size, power/efficiency, agility, range, armor, ECM, and sensors that have to be balanced and adjusted in detail.
@Hatwox its an old but really fun game. Gameplay is basically, you start with a planet that spawn blue dots and you try to takeover other planets. It has really nice music and also soothing sound effects when your "troops" hit the enemy.
"The game has lots of missing features and design issues" Who'd have thought that a game developer who is currently developing a game that has lots of missing features and design issues (Stormworks) who proceeded to split their team and start work on another game (Carrier Command) would end up having the same problems?
Complain as I may about this game, with its braindead AI you have to babysit, frustrating random unlock mechanics that keep you from using all the cool stuff the game offers, lack of defenses on player-held islands, ridiculous aircraft turnaround times, and long, boring stretches of transiting, I still can't stop playing it. If they manage to fix those, I fear I never will stop (except transiting; maybe just adding something to do while underway or an option to compress the map when making a new game).
I bought WotS 3 weeks ago and played multiple campaigns with the Tokio Express Mod. It's really worth it if you're interested in naval skirmishes and battles in the Guadalcanal campaign. With mods that bring in more ships its even more fun
I agree with what you said about the game. I do hope they fix a lot of the monotony issues and add maybe a carrier variant with more stations to command (just a couple more stations to control units would do). And maybe instead of only supply barges they could add supply planes or drops which maybe give less supplies than a barge could, but enough to keep you going in between the barges. Seals are also so damn slow. Takes ages for them to get to an island, capture it and comeback.
Warpugs is by far the best character I've ever seen. 4:40 "The pitter-patter of my feet is getting louder and that is the signal of your doom approaching."

"Cheers to Microprose for the free Carrier Command 2 keys to record the game early." Realistically the only way you will get such a large group of people you know playing this. The night fights really did look dope honestly. The game seems to do a lot of stuff others ignore - understandably so, but it seems compelling for sure. Hope they get it in better shape, a unique beast for sure!
Yeah I have to say this game is great but the fact that it takes ages to travel to Islands and that your aircraft just die almost immediately when there is enemy anti air is quite annoying. The enemy AA just shot down my drones so quick and it also took down all of my missiles. But the core gameplay and how they made the carrier and the drone controller are very awesome!
I now have to look up the game "Aurora". But from the looks of the one screenshot, it's like if Elite Dangerous had the spreadsheet inspiration of EVE, and the graphics of the ORIGINAL Elite for the BBC. I totally burst laughing from the globalist bits of STANZA, as well as the "Ace Combat Protagonist" comment!
Which is exactly my point. The downtime in this game is awful. Every single island you capture involves an unavoidable and incredible painful sequence of waiting for your VERY slow ground robots to slowly drive out to the island, shoot the virus bots, then slowly drive back. The remounting AI is also really trash, they have to do a specific path to reenter the ship or their brains break. It wouldn't be so bad if there were things to do while waiting or if you could just carry on and then airlift them back onto the deck later, but you really can't. Even using Petrels to airlift in and out, you still have to drop them off the back off the carrier and wait for them to re-enter on their own. There's at least stuff you can do in the downtime in ArmA.
Kind of reminds me of wolfpack, small stretches of tense high stress, then tons of wait time as you get into a good attack position. Then again wolfpack is a simulator which is constrained to keeping this realistic and waiting around is realistic.

While waiting after base cap, I send out and albatross to scout the next island and spot for long range cruise missile strikes on clusters of enemy vehicles
I am gona make some direct comparisons to Gaea since that is a direct counterpart to it. I think the major problem with the game atm, is that it's mostly a sight seeing game, I do love being able to walk around on the Carrier and see the vehicles up close, but I think this would have ended up better if it had gone the path of Gaea Mission (and yes I know Gaea Mission was done and published by Bohemia instead, not sure what the status is of the CC franchise, not a series I am familiar with). It basically made a RTS/First Person hybrids, but you have to physically walk to stuff to actually use it, and since menus need to fit on the screen in the carrier, it becomes quite jank, playing it on a 1440p monitor feels like I am playing a early to mid 2000s game on a 720p monitor when ever I get into a menu, taking into account the management level in the game that becomes apparent and annoying real quick. There seems to be no autopilot for carrier or fast travel so far, or if there is it's everything obvious, which makes it all the more monotonous going from island to island manually in real time, Gaea fixes that by automatically moving from island to island with set anchor points iirc, and doing it so by fast travel. Then you have the atrocious unit controls and it carrying the same problems Gaea had of rather low unit variety and not much tech to climb. All and all I think doing the first person stuff hurts the game more than it does good, I do like the first person view option tough, wish RTS games had done it more like Earth 2160. Please correct me if I am wrong, been a long while since I played Gaea Mission, and I have not gotten too far into Carrier Command 2, and probably won't get farther. Honestly I think devs wasted a good opportunity to tap into the declining RTS genre, even if by doing a rather low scale RTS game, especially since mobile base games like for example Homeworld haven't been done in a while, so this would have been a goo change of passe for the usual RTS formula.
I was having so much fun until all of my planes just crashed into an island or my helicopters blew up on the elevator. They gotta fix the bugs and add some more stuff to do in the downtime like repairing your ship your something

You can use helos to do that you need the petral
is there a game with xtacles airships?, with onboard artificial intelligence.
While waiting after base cap, I send out and albatross to scout the next island and spot for long range cruise missile strikes on clusters of enemy vehicles
8:38 Yellow 13 has been shot down!
During the Shadow Empire video, I remember you said you’d do a video on Aurora…
Have you tried Highfleet? It's another game that was recently released by Microprose.
They gotta fix the bugs and add some more stuff to do in the downtime like repairing your ship your something
this game was fully relesed 5 days ago so u can't expect the game to be golden as time goes on the game will get fixed so keep your heads up! in my eyes it will become a great game.
the fact the game is "Fully released" means it should be good, it should all work, it shoudl be engaging RIGHT NOW; any future update should improve it, work upon it, but it should NOT need updates after full release to be fun
@@weberman173 I understand what your trying to say and i agree with you. But the thing is the devs are working on two games right now stormworks and carrier command 2. I'll say the game gets really boring and hard and there are alot of problems but as time goes on we can only hope and see what the game will turn into!
3:32 Was that Zoran?
I know he's been on this channel before but it's always nice to hear him.
