Theyve all come pretty far. I was watching some of their older stuff and ever since the ultimate chef thing they've all levelled up pretty far.but then technically they could be classed as clasically trained chefs now (albeit not on a proper chefs level).

I feel like they both deserved the win in their own way, because I'm not sure if there has ever been an episode where both ideas sounded so absolutely crazy and seemed so disastrous in the process, yet both ended up as huge successes. The way both of them thought out of the box to bring all these flavors together is seriously impressive.

  • @2001benraze

I love this idea, but to Mike's point that Ben set them up with this challenge, I think forcing Ebbers to do the same with the three remaining cans is only fair. So going forward, we should see two "Normals" draw cans and prepare a dish, then after judging, a chef must take the three remaining cans and make a dish of his own. Or perhaps have a follow up episode where Ebbers or Kush makes a dish using the same canned ingredients that the "Normals" used.
EDIT: So obviously I posted this before I finished the video lol Both dishes turned out great. Still, I'm torn between seeing what a chef would do with the same ingredients, although the benefit of time and observation is a bit unfair, not to mention the advanced chef-y skills. Or seeing the chefs use the remaining tins with no prep time for a taste of their own medicine.

Everybody goes on about how bad or boring UK food is.... but reading reviews about your app and the problems overseas subscribers have in sourcing the ingredients, which are available here in the UK. Couldn't you try a recipe where you challenge your friends in other countries, considered to be culinary capitals, a relaxed shopping spree in the morning/afternoon, then a meal prep and tasting in the evening, with a budget and availability comparison on ingredients...

the cherries were not really mentioned in the discussion at the end, so it seems like mike just kind of 'hid' them in the tomato sauce, while Jamie apparently managed to make all three flavours essential components to the dish and made them work well together as well. As a grocery store clerk foodsafe tip. Check your cans for hard edge dents and damage to either end. A can has a lining in it to prevent corrosion and any hard kinks in the can (not soft bends) can damage that lining.

After a Christmas party we still had a lot of veggies from our veggie tray. So for dinner this week I turned it into a noodle stir fry. These were not all veggies that I would traditionally have put in a stir fry but the end result was pretty good. Only thing I might have changed was the amount and ratios of my sauce but all in all a pretty good dinner that only required me to purchase noodles we didn't have on hand. As soon as I saw Mike's ingredients, I immediately thought Swedish meatballs. 7 minutes in, Ben validates my thoughts.
I should get one of them Sous Chef aprons.

Evaporated milk is perfect for making a cheese sauce: grate cheese, dust it with cornstarch/corn flour, and melt it into evaporated milk. The resulting sauce is beautifully smooth.

Some ideas for more mystery cans:
    1. Canned brown bread
    2. Canned bacon
    3. Canned baked beans (i use canned beans for a LOT of recipes)
    4. Rotel (diced tomatoes and green chilis)
    5. Refried beans
    6. Hoppin' John (blackeyed peas, peppers, and onions)

I loved the episode, but Bens reasoning was a mystery to me at the end... If we are talking about using all of the mystery ingredients in a meaningful way Jaime used all 3 and they were working in harmony, while Mike used 2 brilliantly and had to hide one. That was a curveball - brilliant work anyway guys, keep it up ^^

How about a mini series - this one as the 1st video. Next one - immediately after they have finished. A second version right away so to speak to see how they change/improve. Then in a month or several weeks, another round with same ingredients to show how it has changed with more thought. (and possibly home, off screen, practise). Would definitely help me grow skills in my own experimentation efforts.

You can often buy a discount case of lost label tin cans from grocery stores if you ask, (not sure if the ones around there do that, but i have seen it at several across the places ive traveled, great tip for cheap camping food potentially), so that might be a fun way to go full unknown ingredients. Food banks and similar places also have similar things at times if you get ingredients from there
