I can't help now but to think that a live catch trap actually brings death indirectly to mouse predators, because if the trap would have been activated by the mouse, the weasel would have actually died of starvation.o_O

If you don't have other animals to protect from weasels, they are handy to have around. I lived in a log house on a forested lot, and there were lots of mice trying to come in, especially in the cold weather. Once a local weasel showed up and discovered the abundant supply of mice, he made the property part of his rounds. No more mouse problem.

Don't know why I love your videos, but I just do, one of the things I do like about your channel is the way you don't whine when your videos got demonetized and age restricted like a lot of youtubers do, but you found a way around it with your website and the unlisted videos, very clever that, you deserve all the success you are having, your kids have a great dad.
I made one very similar when I was 13 out of lego blocks. I actually trapped the mouse, but it chewed it's way out of the floor because I had used a thinner mat that the lego blocks had come with for a base. Brought back a fond memory of improvisation.
You need a bear to catch & eat the weasel. Then you can build that bear trap full size....
Then you'd need a lion to run the bear off, then an elephant to run off the lion. Then, to get rid of the elephant, you need...a mouse!

Hey Shawn -- I just thought of another revenue stream for you. You should go to the local town, rent an abandoned store front, and open up a mouse trap museum. Not only could you have interactive displays with your videos, but shelves of the mousetraps that you are collecting, and of course a merchandise gift shop full of mouse stuff. It would be a real tourist "trap".

Why? Weasels aren't vermin as far as I'm concerned
I'd rather improve the coop so that the weasel can't enter the chick area rather than disposing of the weasel! The weasel might eat several mice a day and if it breeds, you have a natural, effective and costless way of getting rid of many mice.
Edit: I have chickens and had chicks myself and I'm aware that improving the whole coop is costly and impractical. Improving just a secluded area for the chicks however might be a viable option for you, depending on how many chicks you raise.
the american weasel kills full grow chickens as well, not just chicks. they Frenzie and kill all or as many as possible, not even eating them. its sad when it happens.
Josepi Mann That looked like a least weasel, not like a normal sized weasel. It might try to attack the chickens but I don't know of it is as big of a threat to them as bigger weasels.

This concept works very well. I built one and caught a rat with it. One modification I made was to make a T-shaped trigger instead of L-Shaped. I didn't want to give them a way to skirt around the other side to get to the bait.

That box would be easy to make in quantity in a two car garage. Table saw, router table, belt sander. Drill press and a few jigs to make assembly quicker. Nice little business if you can swing it.

The real Havahart trap company makes live-catch traps in sizes from teeny tiny mice on up to raccoons, foxes, and coyotes. I'm sure one of them's the right size for a weasel. Where you release the weasel is, of course, up to you.

Use a rat trap with anise flavored bait for the weasel. I've had the little bastards kill 20 chickens in one night. It looked like Freddy Krueger had been in my coop.

They can be really bad. Neat little animals, but not of you have chickens!
Please use a live trap for the weasels. Another good deterrent for mice is weasel or ferret poop. They hate the smell of it. I used to use my ferrets on our mouse problem in our attic.

One change I would make, the locking pin. I'd drill from side down at sharp angle and into side of door front. That way pin works with gravity and even lifting door the pin would not come out.
Honestly would love to see if you could live catch that Weasel and then tame it by hand. Would be so awesome. You could make videos of your pet weasel hunting and catching weasels on camera that's one video I'll love I'll throw you £5 on patreon if you keep me weasel as a pet :^)

this trap works well...but the problem with designs like this is that it only works one at a time....i like designs that work overnight and catch lots of mice without resetting again the trap. nice video btw

Sometimes it's a little hard to tell from the thumbnail what mechanism of action the trap uses; is there any chance you could add a flair (e.g. "[LIVE]” or ”[KILL]” or ”[HISTORY]") so viewers can more easily select what they're interested in?
Evan Boyar As much as this subculture of people wanting to keep the constantly-breeding pests alive annoys me, I really love this idea. I prefer to know what I'm getting into just so that I can mentally play with the mechanics of it quicker.

It's not the weasels you have to worry about around your chickens, because it's mink that will indiscriminately kill chickens and not eat them. Weasels are usually blamed for something that mink do, mink are vicious, and mink won't go after dead bait, it has to be alive and make a lot of noise. There's live catch traps that will accommodate live bait. The only other way to catch mink is with the scent glands from another mink, but that'll only work around mating season.
Shawn, GET THAT WEASEL ASAP!!!!!! I lost young chickens once, possibly to coyotes, so I know what's going on. Try the scissor death fall trap, the one you used on the skunks who killed your chicken. Joe

Having a weasel inside (if it were in a place not so close to chickens) would be another good reason not to use poison! You wouldn't want to accidentally kill a helpful predator (again, if it weren't so close to the chickens!)

Just don't use a kill trap, I have a lady friend who loves weasels, ferrets etc and she'd have kittens if she sees it.....btw: she's crazy attractive too and a real sweetheart so...you've been warned lol
She actually takes sick animals in and nurses them back to health and those who are at the end of their life due to cancer or just old age, she takes them in and gives them a nice home i their last days. She truly is a wonderful person.
