That’s why I don’t give a two week notice
Exactly. Companies will fire you or close their doors without a two week notice but expect a 2 weeks notice.
This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone in regards to layoffs without notification. It happens outside of trucking too. Don't expect your job to always be there, because anything can happen.
I don’t care which or how many truck companies go out .
I just need my final paychecks, All of the $ I’m owed .
@Mississippi4Clemson , I'm with you. Sadly, a lot of these companies screw over the drivers, which pisses me off with all the stress and crap a driver has to put up with.
@@KILRtv
I don’t put up with it , There are companies I flat out refuse to drive for (I don’t care how many times they call or text , The answer is “No!”).
I’ve left a couple of companies as well , Only to have them either sell out (which I’m not part of the deal , I’m out of there) or close their doors (go out of business.
The main thing is , I have never once been screwed out of any $ .
Not once or ever .
@Mississippi4Clemson , isn't it hard to know which companies are going to backstab you before they do it?
In my 60 plus years of commercial driving, my time at Jack Cooper in early 70's was the best. They were still family owned (Jack was dead but Bro Tom and relatives ran the company). They were generous with gifts at Christmas Christmas time
It's sad I wondered why I haven't seen there trucks
.... stop expecting/hoping jobs to care for us workers... gotta get it for ourselves. We are all we got. Always anticipate we will get let go at any time so we can have money saved up, have a backup plan and pivot if the moment arises. If they cut us off, cool, so be it. Keep it moving to the next opportunity... Worse thing is attaching ourselves emotionally to any jobs... its a dog eat dog world. They just pay us, we just do labor for them. Thats all.
The saying is "Dog eat dog world" not doggy dog lol
ERY well said Money Tary.
U described to always hv a Plan B
Someone that gets it. I cringe all these posts and comments, crying about Santa Claus not coming through for them. Any industry profit is in taking advantage of you. Get a grip. Unions play both sides. They'll get your job back, or help them get rid of you. Whichever is financially or politically expedient at the time. No Santa. Man up.
Learned this the hard way when I got laid off earlier this year with no notice because a few Amazon planes decided to stop flying to the airport we were hauling JET-A to. Hard lesson.
That's unfortunate. One of their drivers helped me with a blindside back at the clarion hotel in beckley, WV a couple of years ago. Hope he is doing well and all the other drivers too.
It's a call of the times... Many companies are going out. The rates are too low and cost is to high. Trucking is the first of the company's to show that we are in a recession and the country is hurting bad.
I know at least a few owner operators who've turned in their keys because the cost just isn't worth it anymore.
Unions used to be good , A long time ago !
They are still better than working non union 90% of the time.
The union wasn’t the issue it was the shitty management that killed them I know I retired from there .
I will pray for the truckers who lost their jobs I will pray that the truckers will find a new job real fast so they can support their family and love ones may God bless all truckers who keep the human race alive thank you all truckers
The union drivers are working for normal wages. Everyone else driving for far too little.
Agree 💯
To many foreign drivers on the roads today, and there taking all the low ball bids.
@@WAY2RIL also, there are business tax exemptions for foreigners... for SEVEN YEARS after coming here. The intention was to get foreign investors over here to create jobs. NOT for solo indian and somali truck drivers to undercut local owner/ops and drive down freight rates. It's simply an unfair advantage that needs to go, at least for foreigners who aren't providing jobs to americans. If you wanna come here and benefit from tax breaks it should be for the purpose of enriching the LOCAL economy, NOT to drive it into the dirt. Hire american, not your cousins from elsewhere, just so you can pay them peanuts and undercut everyone else.
@@WAY2RILit’s not all there fault. You have greedy Drivers who do too much work in a day and that also brings down demand.
What’s a normal wage? 1200 take home? That’s a joke for a cdl job
John deer closed a shop and moved to Mexico, even after doubling their net from the year before. Greed is greed. If a unuin member gets more pay, they normally spark the economy in their area. Corporations spark the economy of their stock holders. Then move to less expensive markets.
Need them tariffs
USA screwed itself, because corporations should’ve never been allowed to give money to politicians!
I'm not a supporter of unions, but I do understand that we need them to keep employers on their toes.
If you understand that we need them then it seems you should support them. That doesn’t mean you need to join one if you choose not to but they are very much needed.
Not all unions are bad... The elevator union is really good. My father was union for them for 50 years. Helped them for the years he worked there
I meen to say my father had help from his union in the elevator trade. He had many increase in pay. Also he had problems with customers and had a lot of respect in his job
Word is that is was upper management that played the role of the collapse of the company. So unfortunate regardless of what happened
I remember the union LTL carriers who closed in the 80s and 90s.Greed is a terrible thing😢
No notice? You mean the decline in the sales of cars for the last year and the rising dealer lot inventory wasn't an indicator?
Right ?? I came here to say exactly this. Nobody is buying new cars. Look at all the 2023 and 2024 model year vehicles still sitting on dealer lots. No surprise that car haulers would be sitting also.
😮 that really sucks if true. God bless all the drivers and families involved. Be grateful 🙏 on the daily of all your blessings. All things possible through JESUS CHRIST 🙏.
Look man I was in the union 25 years two different locals before I got in the trucking.. look what happened to yellow they priced themselves out the market because they're so damn greedy
The unions set the bar, and it’s a lot of foreign drivers these days that accept lower bids. And a lot of non union companies out here these days.
@@WAY2RIL You both are biased. Both the Unions and the Companies are no good. The worker is caught in the middle. Maybe if more members payed attention to how the union is run things in the unions would get better.
@WAY2RIL maybe the reason alot of non union companies should tell you something. I worked for a place that had teamsters. I didn't join. All the teamsters are about is money and greed. Union didn't do a thing but forces that place to down size 50 percent and sell the rest
YRC busted also because they were the LOW COST volume hauler for several big box stores that wouldn't pay crap on rates. They specialized in LATE and/or DAMAGED freight.
@jeffferguson4632 which falls back on all employees even drivers
Imagine that teamsters has torn down another good American trucking company because of greed and self-righteousness
if you're talking Yellow, it was crp from the beginning. In case of Jack Cooper this is their greed or GM's, why are you blaming Union ? Oh, you're probably another nob-Union person, working for pennies who is jealous 🤣🤣🤣
Dumb self defeating take on this

But no free handouts since they voted to ull themselves up by their boot straps.
First off Alex, the teamsters have nothing to do with the management. Ford ended it due to Jack Coopers miss management. The drivers actually allowed Cooper to not make payments to the pension fund in order to purchase equipment 5 years ago. Well that repayment was due to the tune of 35 million dollars and Cooper didn't want to pay it. I'm not going to go into any further details but the Teamsters has nothing to do with this as most of you people always seem to think. I've worked as an employee and owner operator for them. Currently an O/O and GM tried everything possible and Coopers main investor said no.
Hope this is a True Statement!!!
totally agree ! Non-Union heads are jealous. In case of Jack Cooper this is their greed or GM's.
@@Strigger63 it is true.
We also had negotiations coming up due to the contract expiring in August.
Lamar, my earlier reply may be somewhat incorrect then, Sir. I do seem to remember a write-up about the “investment purchase” Cooper made in their equipment a while back. I also remember think at the time…. “I wish The Waggoner’s Trucking (at the time, the LARGEST PRIVATE CARRIER in the Nation) would also invest in equipment like that. Thanks for reminding me of this. What do union folks make doing otr? I know non union immigrants make close to 3k a week as company driver
@@OlehMelnychuk-rg1wl I questions the validity of your statement. Nothing about what you say tracks with the reality of trucking today.
Sounds like a captured supplier running on very thin margins and GM pushing for lower price.
After they lost Ford, Cooper wanted to raise rates on GM to make up the difference
How's that. UNION WORKING OUT FOR YA..? SERIOUSLY DOUGHT YOU GET IT... ‼️
Works good actually even though I am not at a Union company. Management destroyed that company. The Teamsters have pushed for better benefits and pay throughout the industry. When they get a raise, I get a raise to stay competitive. I am making 94 cents per mile on a W2 at a Non Union company. Company paid health insurance. 50 cent on the Dollar 401k match. 4 weeks paid vacation plus 3 personal days. Break down pay after 30 minutes at $44 per hour. Vacation pay is $44. My bid run is 2970 miles per week. Add in drop and hook pay. I have no complaints.

We also went to a union meeting on 2 9 2025 we are working as shuttle drivers the union is supporting the members
It’s because of the union this what happens when drivers fight each other instead of shutting America down together
I transported new cars for 20 years. Our company never joined the communist party ( the union). We put alot of these companies out of work because the auto manufacturers needed to save money. Yes the rates were lower than the communist party, but we saved the manufacturers millions of dollars in transport fees and we provided better service than the teamsters. Our company was all owner operators and we did make money. Unions were good in the beginning, but good work ethics over the decades have shown us that we no longer need unions. In my opinion unions are forms of communism. Not in America!.
FYI Jack Cooper has been bankrupted at least two other times in the last 25 years. Poor management and greed and fraud from the owners and the communist reps.
Let me get this straight...
They had an opportunity to have their company purchased and save jobs but decided not to?
That is management's decision.

They are shutting down there car transport division
Local news report General Motors and Jack Cooper have ended their relationship after contract negotiations reached an impasse late Friday, leading the nearly 100-year-old vehicle hauling company to start winding down operations with an expected loss of 2,500 jobs.
The contract talks, which had been in intense negotiations for 24 hours, ended at about 11 p.m. Friday, according to people familiar with the discussions. Shortly thereafter, early Saturday, GM restarted shipments of its new vehicles from factories to dealerships using other haulers, a person familiar with the situation told the Detroit Free Press. That person asked not to be named because they were not authorized to share information publicly.
Ultimately, it comes down to WAY overpriced and poorly engineered cars that are likely going to have catastrophic failures, which cost more to repair than the car is worth.
