      @@st.clairbij9208 I'm not sure I'm correct, but given that the smallest any given object could be is a single point in the universe, and there is no upper limit for volume given the infinite size of the universe, everything is closer to the smallest that it can be than the largest

    Whomever came with the idea of pairing Neil with Chuck is a genius. Neil’s topics can be, at times, really tough to follow, but having Chuck there to offer a more playful way to approach those topics is what I call “a winning combination”.

    Once I learned about Graham"s Number, Tree(3), and Rayo(10^100) all these numbers seem really small to me. In fact once I learned about Knuth's Up Arrow notation I was blown away by the size that numbers can become.

      dude, you can always +1 to any number to get a bigger one, theres no such thing as "the largest" number. Thats why there is a term "infinity"

Cuz as I said, there are always a bigger number and also, there are "big" numbers on the other side of the spectrum. Just use not positive but negative powers of 10. But not many people talk about it cuz theres nothing to count with these numbers.

      Graham's number. Is much larger than Skewes thats is actually applicable to a problem. There is even a notation, the arrow notation, used to write down the last few digits of the number.

      Even if you use a stack of exponents, there aren't enough particles in the universe to write down Graham's number.
      And then there's TREE(3), which makes Graham's number look insignificant.

      Basics first, young Grasshopper: It's *would've, as in would have. Would of doesn't mean anything. Your second part there even becomes weird because of this mix up, "I would've probably have a major in science", instead of "I would probably have a..." It's never too late to pick up the books.     I once got really bored in school, and tried writing out a Google. I had 100 pages of 0s before I gave up.

    I had to go back and double check and he did actually say “if you counted one number per second” - to a trillion.........it would take 31 thousand years and that would be somewhat accurate but if you literally counted/spelled out the numbers (two hundred and forty seven billion, four hundred and thirty one million, nine hundred and sixty two thousand, three hundred and fifty five etc.) all the way to a trillion, it would probably take closer to a million years

      What might really get people is that Since there aren’t even a googol particles in the universe it would be impossible for something as tiny as a human head to become that many pieces.
      I got excited when Neil mentioned chess but we never got to hear the number of possible non-trivial chess games is still larger than the number of particles in the universe. Approx 10^120

      Loaders Number D5(99) ftw! (Rayo's number is a garbage philosophy, so it doesn't count....) Loaders Number makes Tree(3) Effectively zero. It wouldn't even show up in a percentage chart.

      Skewes number isn't even about the number of ways to arrange matter in the universe as he mentioned in the video. It's a number appeared in the prime counting problem, which of course is also covered in numberphile. There's also BB(n) and SCG(13) for those who don't like Rayo's number that is bigger than TREE(3). Loader is also artificially created in a big number contest similar to Rayo so it is not as pure math as SCG if you have to be picky. There's something called the finite promise game that dwarfs Loader's number.
