    Fun fact: glass has a very similar load bearing capacity as concrete (close to being almost the same, actually)
    The only difference is that glass cannot tolerate any torsion or other deformations.
    But if you can load glass strictly linearly it is as good as concrete!

If she did what you suggest that would undermine their mutual growth, healthy competition, and achieve no tangible benefits to their collective ability or wellbeing. If they didn't routinely best eachother they would lose respect for one another. If they didn't joke around with false bravado, in jest, the competition would become too serious or too boring. I think the soda can was compressed before it exploded and that made the pressure much higher than it is normally.

    • @wascallywabbit2057
      @wascallywabbit2057 5 років тому +3

      Wouldn't it resist less pressure? Shaking it would increase internal pressure + internal pressure from press. The greater internal pressure(provided from the gas) should break the can sooner. The greater internal pressure is, the more it's going to want to break free, right?

      Any gas released from the soda will be getting reabsorbed when placed under extreme pressure anyway; that's the only way the can's able to wrinkle down as much as it did, because the small amount of air left in the top of the can is being forced into the available space within the liquid.

    Can you place the force gauge on the floor and drop Anni's frying pan on it to estimate how much force was involved with her foot injury? Maybe a BTP video of other things that people might accidentally drop on their foot? Watermelon, dumbbell, kettlebell, frozen turkey, etc.

    • @isaiahmumaw
      @isaiahmumaw 5 років тому

      Woodworker Don Sadly the force sensor likely wouldn’t be able to respond fast enough. However, there is some simple physics you could do to calculate it. The force will equal the mass times velocity divided by the time interval of impact.

    • @sbreheny
      @sbreheny 5 років тому

      @@isaiahmumaw Yes, but there is also the problem that it depends on how much your foot compresses under load.

    You really run the risk of damaging that sensor and might want to take some steps to mitigate it. Since your presses go from 0-100 reeeal quick (in the space of millimeters) you had problems with force being generated too quickly. I'd throw some sort of 5-ton spring in there to absorb the energy of the press. Rather than going from 0-5 tons in a millimeter, it would take several inches. This would also lead to more catastrophic failures as the spring releases its energy.
