I remember playing ashes 2063 when it's first demo released. It had aliens weapon sprites for the shotgun and was such a quaint yet fine experience. How much i have seen the games developed is quite the journey.
ashes is absolutely fantastic! i played episode 1 a few years ago and thought that was it and then all of a sudden there was episode 3 and i was like episode 3? I completely missed Dead man Walking and Afterglow! and now I'm halfway through afterglow and looking forward to Hard Reset
Actually, that does not surprise me at all. The creators were 110% immersed in bringing their dream to life, designing and crafting a great game, - money was the last thing on their mind. I've been in this boat multiple times. Mod makers are likely to be the most inventive and the most dedicated game content creators out there today. What does surprise rather often though - is how some absolute garbage, which has zero creative merit or is maladroit AF - is being sold nonchalant for money on Steam, as if it's a product deserving any kind of monetary reward. Then again, as the timeless expression goes: a sucker is born every day. So there is that.
hi i diid a lot of the vo work for the entire ashes series like the raiders and mutants and cultists and a couple monsters im glaaad u like the series vosty did a goood job and everyone else. i don't rly voice masc characters anymore so it was tougher this time around but still was able to pull thru.
Still at level 4 with 2063. Playing it veeeerry slowly. Enjoying it so to speak. It’s amazing. A work of art and so much fun! What’s the (chronological) order? First 2063 right?
Chronological order is bit different if You are interested in correct time line. First is Hard Reset - set in 2060. Second is Dead Man Walking - unofficial fan made prequel to Ashes 2063. Third is Ashes 2063. Last is Ashes Afterglow. And if we will be lucky maybe one day there will be next episode
I just stumbled upon this video! Excellent review, and I definitely share the excitement. Hard Reset actually grew on me, the more I play it the more I have a blast especially now that it’s more polished with version 1.05 onwards. The standard set by 2063 and Afterglow was very high for me, but the ideas in Hard Reset have become some of my favorites as well, like the darker atmosphere, Walker’s dark background, and the new weapons like the crossbow and the new enemies like the empties. Plenty of enemies to test your new arsenal on!
I love Ashes in it's entireity. Just figured I would mentiong some things. One: you can alter the light levels in settings to better suit your screen/PC setup. Two: You have a map, like any doom mod. Also if you have coloured lines on in the map you can see what keys go to what doors. that should help you navigate, not that i ever got lost in HR. Three: Bro got enough jump cuts!?
There is a point to it being very dark. That is the whole reason behind the flashlight that plays a major role in the game, and turning that up ruins A LOT of the intended experience, so that's a no recommend to do that from me, sure fine tune it but don't alter it too much to make night levels not need the flashlight. Yes I have a map, but the doors are not marked on the map? And the only distinct color is the secret areas in HR? Bro not near enough
@@ZlimBratSki game should not be physically painful. I increased the brightness after 15 minutes , when I noticed that my eyes are actually tired and start to hurt.
Oh it's a wild wild ride! I would recommend playing them with short breaks in between, like maybe play a full game of something after finishing one episode. You know so you don't get too much of the good stuff 😁
The difference in "fun per dollar" between "AAAA" franchises and the _Ashes_ series is the difference between "worthless" and "priceless". That might sound a little harsh, but I've been very disappointed recently with the offerings, cancellations and behind-the-scenes manipulations coming from the "major publishers" lately.
That's not harsh, that's accurate. There are maybe 1-2 exceptions tops, in the last decade - which only fortify the rule. Last AAA game i played and greatly enjoyed - was Mad Max. When was that? Ahh...2015... As Zlim put it: "Så var det med", lol.
"The source port of the source port of the source port of the Doom engine..." Zlim, you really deserve an applause for this crafty definition.👍👏. I still haven't encountered a game reviewer who would describe GZDoom at least half-way competently. Until now. Most are like as if they were born yesterday, packed with an Iphone instead of brains. Babbling something along the lines of: "GZDoom was built in the age of the dinosaurs, scratch that - it was Napoleon who built it, and that guy John? Jack? James? Juke? Ah-ha! Luke!!! Wait, it couldn't be Skywalker, it was some car guy...Who? Car-mac? Yeah, him too..."🤣
Ashes Afterglow is still the best they have produced. Hard Reset game design was a step in the wrong direction. Some enemies are poor by design and it isn't fun to fight them. They also need to take a step back with their overbearing Flash light nonsense. And the Voice Acting while decent, is more of a distraction than just giving players the plain text. Not to mention the Character Portraits range from good to whoTF draw this doodle cräp? Still a game worth playing no doubt about that. Download the standalone for free and get hooked. Don't let them eat your flesh!
Hard Reset is awesome TC for Doom, it feels like Ashes, but bit different. I do not mind if there will be more small episodes like this one. New guns and monsters are great. I only feel that last map was rushed and realesed too early.
Yeah I totally agree, I love this prequel expansion just giving a little bit of a shorter and tighter experience, although it's not a small game by any means it's quite hefty imo :D
Maybe i should just play this instead of purcashing 150 euro worth of games i have in my steam basket (summer sale) lol :D jk. I'll still get some of them.
That my friend is a game I'm planning on streaming Episode 2 of next week, so keep an eye open for that (It's Wizordum ua-cam.com/video/tMA-wRYeUc8/v-deo.html )
not my favorite ashes campaign but it was really good and they added all that new stuff, kinda sad it doesnt havehubs anymore, also the wendigos and the gladiators are too fast and too tanky, the game likes to throw too many of them in closed areas and it becomes a clusterfck, its too chaotic to crowed control, other than that it was top notch, i liked how they connected the story with the other campaigns perfectly.
You mean the hubs acts as levels? I sure felt like there were hubs. I played on standard and never got too damaged by the wendigos, but I was usually drained on ammo after :(
@@ZlimBratSkihubs generally refer to areas / maps you come back to, which HR does not have as it plays more similarly to 2063, level to level progression. I can not say that hubs are gone from future installments, just not in HR.
I think it is the best way to think about Hard Reset as an additional story to Ashes universe. It is something like Dead Man Walking, but more story focused.
