  • A new group of drugs for type 2 diabetes and obesity have shown to be more effective for weight loss than any previous medications. Some medications like Ozempic and Wegovy have surged in popularity thanks in part to celebrity use. But who should be taking them? And are they safe? In today’s episode, we break down the future of the weight loss industry and examine why some of these medications could also help curb addictive behaviors.

If you're just overweight and not diabetic, you're better off with just cutting sugar, drinking only water, lowering your calorie and carb intake(between 1000 to 1400 calories), and taking an hour out of your day to exercise. Since February, I've lost 75 pounds doing this.

Eat grass fed beef only. If you go to the grocery stores and read the back of labels, nothing is ever pure anymore. There are so many additives and chemicals in the foods, it’s almost like the health department is trying to kill everyone with obesity.

And although to many it seems a mild boast- I've lost 6 pounds in a little less than 3 weeks. As a bariatric maintainer stage I know better than drugs to do it- when I feel sad I'm hovering at 200 pounds I remember when I was a BIG PEACH BLOSSOM AT nearly 400 pounds less than 5 years ago. 😢 Never again, after all that, I shall live and love the blessing of still being alive. 200 tain't all that bad😅

You could just lose weight. If you have type 2 diabetes it's totally reversible. It's caused by fat on your liver and pancreas. Lose the fat and it goes away. It doesn't cost any money either. It saves you money.

One way of avoiding nausea or GI side-effects on Ozempic or Mounjaro is too eat smaller portions. Another way is to have some Pepto, Imodium, Tylenol, and MiriLax lying around in case one of those side-effects sneaks up on you. I've heard there are also even more powerful drugs coming out soon, such as retatrutide, but of course the side effects increase, too. This is the beginning of a golden age in diabetes and obesity management. Thank you gila monster.

The problem with these drugs, including Wegovy, intended specifically for weight loss) is that, at some point, you quit taking it, and you gain the weight back. There are some who say "Don't quit taking it" but then you are interfering with your body's endocrine system, and the problems cited here.

Loading up on protein, eating a lot of protein, before your injection really helps with the nausea especially if you are titrating up in dosage. If you take your shot at night, which helps with the nausea, eat a lot of protein throughout the day. Drink lots of water to help flush out the byproducts. Limit carbs.

Extremely disappointed in many comments here. My daughter has been overweight since was was a child..she was diagnosed with PCOS which causes hormonal issues. She has tried every diet out there unsuccessfully and not because she hasn’t really tried. She works in Hospice care and is very compassionate. She has said to me that she knows that people judge her based on her weight so she works very hard to show people her true self. She is seeing a weight loss physician who has tried to help her in many ways. The Dr recently recommended one of these weight loss drugs. However, her insurance company refuses to pay for it. They say if she was a diabetic they might consider it.. so…..we have to wait until she becomes diabetic? So they would rather pay for her to be unhealthy instead of helping her become more healthy. Very unlogical and STUPID! I agree that these drugs should not be given out to celebrities or others needing to lose 10 lbs. However, if they can help people with a medical condition(which obesity is) then great!

    - "Weight Loss Drugs: Trend or Treatment?"
The title implies that "trend" and "treatment" are contradictory to each other, which is not the case at all. In contexts like this one "trend" means that things are moving or changing to certain direction. That change can very well be permanent. Usually the trend stops at some phase, and unless it reverts, it becomes something permanent. Trend doesn't mean the same as "passing" or "fashion". Many people confuse "trend" especially with the latter.
Much of the blame for that goes to fashion media, which for long has tried to distance itself from the word "fashion", perhaps because they feel it creates a superficial impression. Ironically, in a superficial fashion they chose to start to misuse the word "trend". There can of course be trends in fashion too, but people in the field generally don’t seem to be able to distinguish the two concepts.

Well, the treatment protocol is to try to lose weight first through lifestyle changes. But there are situations where it may just not be working and the consequences of inaction are too great. Like if someone is pre-diabetic. Once you’re actually diabetic, it can be impossible to reverse. Preventing it can greatly extend a person’s life.

Are we expected to blindly accept the notion that weight loss injections, often presented as a miraculous solution to our health issues, are completely devoid of side effects? Do we not owe it to ourselves, to question the impacts these substances could have on our bodies, beyond just the surface-level promise of shedding pounds?
Is it really plausible to think that these potions, concocted in labs and injected into our systems, bypass our body's natural processes and result in weight loss without any secondary effects? Don't we need to consider that our bodies are complex systems, that every intervention - even with the noblest of intentions - can cause unforeseen reactions and interactions within this intricate network?
Could it be that we are so focused on the desired outcome - weight loss - that we overlook the potential negative impacts these shots might cause, on everything from our metabolism to our hormonal balance, and even our psychological well-being?
And finally, is it not imperative that we scrutinize the long-term effects of these weight loss shots, beyond the immediate weight reduction? Might we be setting ourselves up for future health complications, even as we celebrate the loss of pounds in the present?
