There’s something ironic with Fu stating that there are no “cruel” kwamis cause people aren’t like that, whilst Thomas is hellbent on a fictional 15 year old girl being the spawn of Satan and incapable of being good
Apparently kindess and cruelty are LEARNED behaviors... So explain to me, who was the first person to start it? Was it just self taught I guess? As if being territorial and aggressive isn't an extremely common trait in the wild... If anything its the opposite. Its INSTINCT to retaliate or be selfish, not a learned skill.
@@lasercraft32 it is learned... a child is a clean slate they do something and either are rewarded or punished based on the people around them. it's 50/50 that they do something kind or cruel but it's not with any intent just because they thought it was okay. I actually watched a video about this a couple of days ago. Child nudity. TOTALLY not creepy or gross. TOTALLY not a breeding ground for the wankiest wankers who ever wankered...
About Marinette running nude across New York, I think it's the comic doing the classic, but understandably awkward cartoon trope where a character runs around naked in public and trying not to get seen by someone. The best example I could provide is _The Fairly OddParents_ episode, "Crime Wave", where Timmy runs around in Dimmsdale naked after wishing to be at the local comic book store. It also included a subplot where the Crimson Chin must battle against H2Olga while also babysitting. So, that's all I could explain, but it still doesn't stop this trope from being super awkward in the comics (I'm trying to avoid using the overused word), especially since _Miraculous Ladybug_ uses semi-detailed, semi-realistic designs for their characters.
I agree with this sentiment....up until the "Most Played" part of the video, thats just pushes this over the edge from the "silly funny haha naked person" to something that belongs in the shadow realm of the internet

I’m pretty sure that the “SoOo FrEnCh” joke is about how doing something like going out to eat in France it’s basically more polite for eating to take more time, to the point where I know at least some schools there give an hour for lunch time. This is why the not Justice League is like “they’re SoOo FrEnCh” when Ladybug & Cat Noir ask for 10 minutes for themselves. Even with the supposed context, it still doesn’t really work as a joke IMO.
uh well you see French in most places in the world id known as the "language of love" so i think with that you can get the joke. also that's not the way to use racism as there are only 4 races and French def ant one of them.

I know this show/comics isn't known for their fashion. which is a rant for another day with Marinette being a fashion student. Like come on! there is so much good black street fashion out there. Y2K fashion and other street fashion was literally popular when the comics came out. You gave us that! That comic went to the trash immediately.

lmao surprised you didn't see these before now! I remember when that last one you talked about came out and Astruc was trying to defend the blatant and weird racism in it. Actually crazy stuff
So, the first "Sooooo French" makes sense because there is a stereotype here in the US that French people are hyper-romantic and sexual. I don't know what the implication of the second "She's Sooooooo French" is supposed to be. With the controversial scene, why was Marinette naked? She was never that way for all her other transformations. The entire scenario feels forced. For all you fellow 'Muricans talking about how Marinette would have been right in her assumption, you're soft, and sheltered, leave your suburbs or small town and go downtown for once. Aside from that, yeah, imagine not assuming that they were movers. It's possible they had good intentions when they wrote that. Astruc has said that the point was that Marinette was stereotyping them. At the same time, there is such little care put into the idea, from the forced scenario to the weird street names it shows that at best, it was put in there so the writers could be on their moral high horse, and at worse, it's what Mr. Pants said, someone's thinly veiled script for BLACKED. I need to go back to those street names, though. I get why they named a dude Public Enemy, "Oh yeah, famous protest artists Public Enemy," Sure, though I don't know why that would be someone's nickname. Ghettoblaster? F6cking Ghettoblaster? How much do you guys want to bet that the writers for this comic don't even know what Ghettoblasting is? It would've been a somewhat funny moment if Marinette was like "Sorry for thinking you guys are criminals" and then the family responded with "It's okay, when we saw you in that box, we thought you were a crackhead." Alas, they probably can't say "crackhead" in a children's comic and I'm not sure if French has an equivalent or if that type of humor would land.
Mari says that she is going to save the world and those guys says "so french" so i dont think thats the implication or maybe its the implication that they intended in the first one but i'm still confused about the second one
While I understand the message they were trying to convey with that scene of Marinette and the black guys, the comic shoots itself in the foot by having Marinette be naked and giving the black guys the most stereotypical names and designs they could've come up with.
Fun fact: Ghetto Blaster was the nickname my college girlfriend gave me whenever we got together on a Saturday night. This was my attempt at a Cinemasins joke.
These comics (alongside some elements in the show and his tweets) are a great example to point to when talking about Astruc’s HORRIBLE relationship with race. I’ve gotten shit from so many fans who claim there’s no issue with it which is just surreal to me. Even though this comic is kind of lost media it’s not like his tweets or the weird stuff in the show regarding East Asians are. Miraculous Ladybug has a bunch of extremely racist elements and I feel it’s fucking overdue for an analysis of it that doesn’t try to brush it off. Just because it’s “well-meaning” doesn’t mean it’s not awfully executed .
I petition the serial killer kwami to be a meerkat, mainly beause real life meerkats have the highest murder rate for their own species next to humans.
that bit with Marinette meeting those guys really reminded me of the scene from Godzilla final wars and how they portrait New York, minus the naked 14 year old girl, seriously WTF? Zag approved that
I can at least, although spitefully, write down the ghetto blaster as The Writers Being Ignorant (American Edition). But Mari being naked is where the police needs to be called, bcs what the absolute fuck were they thinking?!
I got one for free comic day in my town back in 2017 (I remember because it was my prom day 😅) I never saw anything about the comics again and completely forgot of their existence
"Is french people being horny a common American stereotype?" YES! I am french and I can confirm that for some reason Americans think Europeans, and us French in particular, are indeed horny. I blame it on both Paris being stereotyped as the "City of Love and Romance" and on the genuine fact that our standards regarding sexual content and censors aren't as strict as for Americans (Code Lyoko, one of my favourite shows, is apparentely considered very fanservicy in America, when in our own country it's considered about average).
The “evil can be innate, just look at serial killers” this is uncomfortable since many things go into if someone chooses to be cruel. Ignorance, anger, social situation, mental health, family and background.. I’m certain that being a cruel murderer is a choice and there are ways to help and raise those who have mental health issues so they don’t make that choice. Meanwhile there are people who are not mentally unwell who chose to hurt people because they have decided they don’t care about others- usually because they have tons of power or because they want to have that power over others
From the first comic, I can tell the artist is a My Little Pony fan. Not that it's a bad thing but just saying I could tell that the artist must have been drawing pony art since the face shapes kind of match up with how Fanart was styled. I'm not 100% sure since it's been years.
1:33 the worst thing of saying the art is bad is that i used to follow the artist on Instagram bc i admired her, I was on high school and she was so excited when she got a job working for miraculous 😭😭😭😭 like man, léase her artstyle alone, its just an artstyle its Not that bad, her former work is so much better tbh, maybe se was fishes or something
I’m sad to say that I actually have these comics. I got them when I was like 12 and I remember being excited about them but I was too young to realize how bad they actually were.💀
Since you've talked about the comics. Could you please talk about the ladybug pv anime. You mentioned it in your felix video, and I would like to hear your opinions on this. Err, if you don't mind
can't believe the worst hot take I've heard from Smarty Pants is that American cheese is good. I am american, and I can confirm that all cheese labeled american is awful. American cheese isn't even cheese! it's cheese product! Rethink your life Smarty Pants, and get a better opinion on cheese please!
American Cheese is weird, because on its own its kinda gross, BUT when _melted_ it tastes way better. English Muffin with ham and melted American cheese is really good imo.
I don't find these comics all that bad, because I've seen fanfictions with similar storylines and nonsensical lines. Regardless of the age and gender of the writers, it's just them using shock value comedy of the characters ending up either naked or in awkward situations. I do however think that situations like these in the comics should be done with adult characters, not teenagers who are barely 14.
If they were relying on ladybugto repairall the damage why didn't they assume Cat Noir could beat trash kraken with a cat-aclysm also I hate that when it was revealed that Adrian's truncks survived his transformation my brain went "Yeah, a female who lost her clothes, people will help her and dress her. A dude loses his clothes, He gets arrested." the double standard is backed into the brain. Would have been better to NOT do the swim plot and clothing malfunction AT ALL. but they needed to pad the run time I guess Ain't no way they made a black superhero who calls himself "Public Enemy"
A star walks into a black hole but doesn't seen phased. The black hole then turns to the star and says, "I don't think you understand the gravity of this situation."
9:57 The " We need a moment of privacy. Ten minutes tops!" does make it sound like an inappropriate joke. If you cut that line out, the joke could have been they were doing a "French exit", that's why it's "Sooo French". The term "French exit" means leaving a place without telling other people where you're going and not asking permission to leave. Unfortunately, the previous line, the shocked expression, I'm pretty sure it was intended be an inappropriate joke.
12:41 Okay, here it is a "French exit" joke. Weirdly enough, I feel like having that joke twice was a way to pretend like the first time they made the joke wasn't inappropriate. But even then, they ruined the "French exit" joke because she explained why she was leaving "To save the world of course". That means it wasn't actually a "French exit" and the guy shouldn't have said "Sooo French".
Yes, it's funny because it shows that the unofficial comic (I mean, official, because it's licensed, but not canon, because, well, we've all seen the series) made more effort to make Marinette at least look Asian
I also like to think of "SO French!" being a play on words to the Mean Girls movie quote, "That's so fetch!". Yeah, it's doofy, but it works and keeps things kid-friendly
I read these comics when they came out and yeah the exposition about the kwamis was completely new! I believe they released between seasons 1 and 2. I just remember being so happy to get more Miraculous content but was weirded out. Now looking back yikes these didn’t age well at all and I don’t even think they’re canon
I deleted naked in a box Marinette and Ghetto Blaster from my brain but I’m now revisiting my trauma because of you SmartyPants 😭. Also… watch Reflectkta! Please? Lmao
Not gunna lie, thought he was going to talk about the fan comics that the Fandom creates. Had no idea there were cannon comics, makes me wanna stuck to the ones the fandom has made.
Hm, fair and valid points and opinions, although i feel like you went a little too hard on these Comics, also i don’t think the Art-style is that bad, I’ve seen worse. But anyway, I do feel like the Info about Kwamis is probably the only thing worthwhile with these Comics, at least based on this. By the way, I feel like there’s a couple of Fan-Webcomics that is probably way better than this, if you’re interested i could recommend them to you?
I thought the first “sooo French” comment was about how French ppl lead a more “leisurely” lifestyle in comparison to Americans? Yk, the “Americans live to work, the French work to live” sort of thing? Like “wow, even in the face of mass destruction, ofc the French guys would be like “NoPe, It'S mY lUnCh BrEaK rIgHt NoW” and take a 10 minute break” lol it’s still very dumb imo but this is my guess which I think would at least make more “sense” in a very Emily in Paris sort of way lol however I honestly have no sort of explanation to the 2nd sooo French lol best guess is Astruc could’ve sworn that his first soooo French joke was soooo Funny and that a “recall” to it would work??…somehow?? Idk lol but anyway that’s my guess as to what the soo French might’ve meant
I had heard about marinette with a box but hadn't seen the comic so I thought it was like how Adrien once dressed up as chat noir with boxes or that she was trying to hide or something. I was not expecting that who thought this was a good idea.
The art style change is really jarring but I do like second art style from the first comic This just tells me it was super rushed to get a product out Omg vol 3 is just…..oof 🤦♀️
As an American I can answer some of these. First, older American tourists used to tell their kids that Paris wasn't very welcoming; enough Americans had bad experiences there from the 70s-90s that it became a bit of a stereotype that Parisians were rude; but similar stereotypes exist within America about various American cities (most particularly New York City, but not exclusively). Second, Americans often romanticize France as the most romantic nation in Europe (and really all the world), so a French supermodel and the lady stalking him being fetishized comes from that. Third, American cities often are crime-ridden, poverty-ridden, disease-ridden, corrupt dystopian nightmares full of every conceivable social evil known to man; most people are terrified of Chicago, Cleveland, Baltimore, Los Angeles, New York City, DC, etc. for very real reasons and encountering those men Marinette encountered alone at night (especially as a teenage young lady) would often mean certain death in the various slums of a city like New York City; or a fate even worse. Like it or not, Marinette would often be correct in inferring that those men were stealing; and I can assure you that theft would likely be the least of an NYC gangs crimes in real life. Yes those specific ones turned out to be vigilantes but believe me you do not want to be approached by a crew of such men when you are anywhere alone in the USA, especially not in NYC. The risks are third-world-slum levels all over the US but especially in the cities. Even some of the smaller communities can be very dangerous. Most of Mississippi is basically a violent, lawless, impoverished third-world country and it isn't safe to drink the tap water in most Mississippi counties. Even places without AS MUCH VIOLENT crime are still often rife with scammers, thieves, robbers, burglars, traffickers, and illicit dealers (West Virginia is an example of this). So, as absurd as this comic is, it isn't as far from the truth as you seem to think.
As an ACTUAL American I take offense to this whole comment. Not only is it blatantly false (except for Cleveland) it's racist as fuck even more so than the comic. It stinks of a bot or a racist troll and fuck anyone who thumbs it up.

Mari says that she is going to save the world and those guys says "so french" so i dont think thats the implication or maybe its the implication that they intended in the first one but i'm still confused about the second one
They're showing a naked teenage girl walking around NYC in a cardboard box. But "crackhead" is where you think they would draw the line?
While I understand the message they were trying to convey with that scene of Marinette and the black guys, the comic shoots itself in the foot by having Marinette be naked and giving the black guys the most stereotypical names and designs they could've come up with.
Fun fact: Ghetto Blaster was the nickname my college girlfriend gave me whenever we got together on a Saturday night.
This was my attempt at a Cinemasins joke.
*Ding*
I knew I heard that dumb ex girlfriend joke somewhere
"Spoilers, Duh."
I fucking love CinemaSins. His vids are entertaining.
Boo! CinemaSins is so surface-level.
Ghetto Blaster? Thank God there was a H after G. Cuz then it would become creppy
These comics are SoooOOOooo FrEnCh
1:15 I recall there being animated shorts in this style... It looks so much worse in motion.
Omg I used to watch them to
I remember being pretty excited, because all the art creators rpesented looked really nice and then it came out looking so ugly...
*sigh* where can I find them
I petition the serial killer kwami to be a meerkat, mainly beause real life meerkats have the highest murder rate for their own species next to humans.
2:50 the school system doesn’t do much against bullying
the french school system?
@@hertzwave8001 no every school system, and that’s coming from someone who experienced it for a long time
that bit with Marinette meeting those guys really reminded me of the scene from Godzilla final wars and how they portrait New York, minus the naked 14 year old girl, seriously WTF? Zag approved that
I can at least, although spitefully, write down the ghetto blaster as The Writers Being Ignorant (American Edition). But Mari being naked is where the police needs to be called, bcs what the absolute fuck were they thinking?!
I got one for free comic day in my town back in 2017 (I remember because it was my prom day 😅)
I never saw anything about the comics again and completely forgot of their existence
I don’t know but something about making sexual innuendos about 14 yr olds and having them prance around a dirty city naked feels very wrong.
"Is french people being horny a common American stereotype?"
YES!
Yeah, the fact that he said that rubbed me the wrong way.
16:58 I think the slug monster ate the mystery machine from Scooby doo
I noticed that too lol.
Was waiting for someone to point that out! XD
I have no word for these comics
Originally Miraculous was supposed to be a comic,it seems better it didn't happen.
I’m sad to say that I actually have these comics. I got them when I was like 12 and I remember being excited about them but I was too young to realize how bad they actually were.💀
At 6:32 why is the photographer rizzing up Adrian?😂😂😂😂
13:32 DUDE JUST GO VISIT WISCONSIN, TIS THE LAND OF CHEESE.
Since you've talked about the comics. Could you please talk about the ladybug pv anime. You mentioned it in your felix video, and I would like to hear your opinions on this. Err, if you don't mind
I can't the" SO FRENCH " Thing when you said it😂
can't believe the worst hot take I've heard from Smarty Pants is that American cheese is good. I am american, and I can confirm that all cheese labeled american is awful. American cheese isn't even cheese! it's cheese product! Rethink your life Smarty Pants, and get a better opinion on cheese please!
Tbf he lives in Australia which has really bad cheese so America’s might be better in comparison lol
(I know this because I’m also Australian)
Calm down, no need to bitch about an opinion.
American Cheese is weird, because on its own its kinda gross, BUT when _melted_ it tastes way better. English Muffin with ham and melted American cheese is really good imo.
Yeah I’m American and I cannot stand American cheese. It’s hard to swallow because of how gross it is
The river part makes me think of our president saying he will swim in the Seine to prove it isn’t THAT dirty 😂😂
3:55 Pardon my French, no pun intended. But WTF was that?! 😂 Did you just have a seizure?
If they were relying on ladybugto repairall the damage why didn't they assume Cat Noir could beat trash kraken with a cat-aclysm
also I hate that when it was revealed that Adrian's truncks survived his transformation my brain went "Yeah, a female who lost her clothes, people will help her and dress her. A dude loses his clothes, He gets arrested." the double standard is backed into the brain. Would have been better to NOT do the swim plot and clothing malfunction AT ALL. but they needed to pad the run time I guess
Ain't no way they made a black superhero who calls himself "Public Enemy"
A star walks into a black hole but doesn't seen phased. The black hole then turns to the star and says, "I don't think you understand the gravity of this situation."
The name “ghetto blaster” is sending me 💀💀💀
Thank God this was not a Getto Blaster, and that he was not a German. Then this comic would be banned and forbitten in every country.
1:09 I hated this episode it was so cringe lol
Same
Oh I remember this! You've unlocked so many repressed memories about this comic lol.
Keep up the good work smartypants! Been watching you for a while now and you’ve been killing it, good stuff mate!
Something amuses me about the fact that Adrien has darker skin in the comics, while in the series he doesn't have much darker skin
And Marinette looks more Asian than she does in the show, which is also funny
Yes, it's funny because it shows that the unofficial comic (I mean, official, because it's licensed, but not canon, because, well, we've all seen the series) made more effort to make Marinette at least look Asian
I also like to think of "SO French!" being a play on words to the Mean Girls movie quote, "That's so fetch!". Yeah, it's doofy, but it works and keeps things kid-friendly
"The story is that Marinette is a social failure"
...
"What else is new?"
CRYING.
I read these comics when they came out and yeah the exposition about the kwamis was completely new! I believe they released between seasons 1 and 2. I just remember being so happy to get more Miraculous content but was weirded out. Now looking back yikes these didn’t age well at all and I don’t even think they’re canon
9:46 where i live, an steriotype of french people is being too romantic so i think the joke is them running away to kisses
They fixed the naked error in a later printed edition with of the issue
What does the that so French line even mean? I'm an American and I don't get it.
Same like whattt
I deleted naked in a box Marinette and Ghetto Blaster from my brain but I’m now revisiting my trauma because of you SmartyPants 😭.
Also… watch Reflectkta! Please? Lmao
Honestly, “They’re so French” is accurate 😭
12:15 12:18 Low key hilarious, because you are right on point.
The head looks like..... Tomatoes 😵💫
It's a shame. You'd hope that the comics would be better than the show (Jeremy Zag's vision, for example).
Jeremy approved this 💀
@@dangerbuffrocky I thought this was another grubby Astruc fantasy, but ZAG approved this?!
@@MeemahSN yep
Im surprised. i knew about the Lost pv casino game, but not the comics. I never thought they were lost media
When I was six I found one and closed it when they were at the beach. (At 6 I thought men being shirtless was appalling!!!) so glad I didn’t finish it
The art style change is really jarring but I do like second art style from the first comic
This just tells me it was super rushed to get a product out
Omg vol 3 is just…..oof 🤦♀️
10:00 it might be because French people are considered romantic or at least the acsent is I don’t get it myself
wait did Adrien just beat a villain without transforming??
Thank god I had no idea about these comics. Although it was funny seeing you kinda cry over not understanding the Sooo French joke. I didn't too.
I checked the account and it has AI generated content even the profile picture is AI generated.
Yeah best to play your cards close to your chest in the USA
Ok fair enough I did swear. However the above comment is still racist.
@nathanialwoods8281 Yeah that account is definitely a bot with the amount of racist nonsense they're spewing lol.
I feel the United heroes are an interesting idea just with weird execution
Yeah this isn't canon. Uncanny Valley is white here, which is not at all accurate to the show.
If this is your reaction to official comics. Please do a review on the scarlet lady au comics please!
"Public Enemy" is that a dmc reference?
Can you do a video on how would you fix miraculous
It's not actuall lost media I know this since. 6 years ago. But it's not very. Know unless you were in a exact moment at a exact time and in fact the lost media comics are the reason we know how the kwuamis exist
I love swimming in that river. It is illegal but not enforced.
Stop I was literally talking about these comics with my boyfriend the other day 💀
How the heck do the illustrations feel more limited than the actual animation?! 😂
Can I be brutally honest? Why did OP canon Adrien have tiny swim shorts? Why was like GQ?
Im starting to think hes doing everything to not watch reflecta episode
Going to do the webisodes, too?
I uh… own this comic 😂
when I first saw the cartong Marinette page, I thougt it was fan fiction and not offical.
My question is just why (and when you really have to do something like that, very questineble, make it atlesst like adrian)
sholud read the scarlett lady comic, its Ladybug with self awernes
I have the 5th volume of the comic if you ever need it.
have you tried the manga?
If i recall correctly having read a collection of the comics in question they defeat the monster and return home
15:01 "Americia"
How do you pronounce that?
@@0deadx21 ah-meh-rih-shah
@@Rukalin Yeah, that's exactly what I thought.
Yikes! The scene where Marinette is naked is so incredibly uncomfortable! I don't even know what's worse: The child-p0rn0grafie or the racism. O.o
Also: 16:59 Is that the Mystery-Gang Van in there?
Hahahah what are you talking about
...what cp? are you nuts?
she wasn't even completely naked, but covered with that box.
it wasn't top notch comedy, but it definitely wasn't cp either. it's nowhere near. stop being so damn sensitive over some cheap kids comic and stop making everything sexual.🤦
ok....these dirty comics should never have been made in the first place -💀....why they make marinette naked, chloe see mari half naked when stealing sometning...and all that....also...i hate...seeing...when they torture our fvae characters like that and those characters that we never seen in our life that arent my fave but what....😅
