My dear..where have you been all of my quilting life..am trying to get my scrap pile at a normal level..lol.so am making oodles of pot holders..like them to look like little quilts ..your binding tute makes it happen..luv from Canada..🇨🇦
Thanks for the BEST BINDING TUTORIAL I've ever seen. Your institutions were very easy to understand, because you took the time to show us the proper way ! I've been sewing only a short while & I've done a lot of binding, but it wasn't the proper way but it will be for now on. Thanks again !!!!!
I just found your channel and I feel like I found a gold mine! Thank you so much for all of the wonderful, clear teaching videos. I am new to quilting but I have been sewing garments for a long time. My mother recently passed and she was a quilter. She left a quilt partly done and I want to finish it, so I have to learn! I believe I can learn and learn to love quilting with your help. Again, thank you so very much.
Hi Sally. I had a Singer Golden Touch'n Sew for 35 years. It used cams and they never worked well for me. I now use a computerized sewing machine which works great. Thanks for watching, and happy sewing.😍
I'm a seamstress. Been sewing for over 50 years and have made wedding dresses & ties (which at the time I made them, they were said to be the hardest thing to make. I have put seam binding on quilts but for the life of me, I am having problems putting it on two little pot holders. I did not know about the pin trick to make the corners though. who said you can't teach an old dog new tricks. Now if I can only get these pot holders done right before I throw them out.
Hi Ceryl ! you are super knowledgeable and really a great teacher.hopefully going to follow your instruction and make my pot holder! Thank you so very much!!
Thanks a million Mrs. Cheryl for "ALL"of your "VERY EXCELLENT EXPLANATORY SEWING VIDEOS"!(😃❤😘👍🏼👍🏼)..I,Love watch "ALL OF YOUR AWESOME & EXCELLENT SEWING VIDEOS!(Thanks, for all of your sewing tips).MAY GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS IN THE ALMIGHTY NAME OF "JESUS CHRIS✝️"!"AMEN"&"AMEN"!(💪🏽❤💪🏽❤😘✝️🙏🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼👍🏼👍🏼).
It's very beautiful thank you so much for sharing this I'm watching all the videos of you they are very useful I'm trying to do those and again thank you so much
Making and giving aprons, hot pads and potholders as Yule gifts ;) My daughter is buying her own sewing machine next year, she should watch your videos and learn to sew
I am so glad i found this sewing room. This woman speaks so well and cares about beginners and seniors(tee-hee). I've checked out at least 10 presenters and this is the only one I decided to subscribe to. I feel she will be a good teacher for my pace. She explains everything you need and more in 13 mins. I did watch it 4 times because she's not using a machine for the binding. I especially loved her showing us how she created different patters for the quilted look. Loved the little tip using the wooden stick and the straight pin for mitered corner & finger pressing when dealing with that binding thing. Thank you so much.
Thank you for making it simple and slow. Last night I was crying because I couldn't figure out how to do the binding, but today I'm thrilled to have found your perfect tutorial!
Not sure if you guys gives a damn but if you guys are stoned like me atm then you can watch pretty much all the latest series on InstaFlixxer. Have been watching with my girlfriend for the last months =)
I am so glad that I found your channel. You have so many great projects I want to try. I am doing the Pot Holders with bindings and I am finding that when I quilt the pot holder, no matter how many pins, if I use basting spray, lengthen my stitch, use my walking foot; the material creeps away from the edges exposing batting around the edges. Is this a tension issue? A stitch length issue? I know it will be covered with the binding, but it ends up making my pot holders looking lopsided. I just started sewing last year to make masks, and have finally branched out to bowl cozies, microwave potato bags, and now I hope, pot holders. Thanks for the great tutorials. Can not wait to try more projects!!
Hi Sassy. It could be a tension issue. Usually when I make pot holders with several layers of cotton batting I will lengthen my stitch to 3.0. If your stitches are too short, it can cause this problem. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching, and happy sewing. 😍
I am absolutely loving all of your videos (: I have never quilted before but I am going to try and make some of your projects to donate to a cancer fund raising event in Sydney Australia. I was hoping if you could tell me if you would suggest washing your fat quarter and pre cut fabrics first. Thanks again for the inspiration and have a great day!!! Debbie
Hi Debbie. I recommend washing and drying larger pieces of fabrics - but make sure you do a zigzag stitch along the two raw cut edges to prevent the fabric from unraveling during the wash cycle. You can wash and dry the fat quarters but, again, do a zigzag stitch on all 4 sides. I do not wash my fat quarters. As far as other pre-cut fabrics, such as small squares and strips, I would not wash them because they will unravel and shrink. Happy sewing.
Love your videos. Can you figure out how to do this project. It’s basically a binder pot holder but a pillow style back to slide in a tile to become a trivet
Love this video Could you please do a video using a panel to make a mini quilt from start to finish please show what to do after adding wadding and back sheet how to stitch around the frames of pictures and sewing the raw edges and finishing with binding or folding over edges of back sheet Thank you
Hi Sue. Here are two quilt videos that I uses panel fabrics -- "Quilt With Prairie Points" -- "Beginner's Quilt". For a complete list of my videos go to "The Sewing Room Channel". Happy sewing.
Hi Sherill, very nice & easy to follow tutorials. But if I'm making potholders for sale, how to price them reasonably? I look forward to doing more easy projects. JJ.
I have been re-watching the instructions near the end on how to make the binding come together correctly. You mention to cut off 1/2 inch overhang for the two ends. But then when it's time to fold the potholder and bring the right sides together of the binding to sew it, it's stated to do a 1/4 inch seam. I am really new to this (have only done it twice before, with much frustration) and I am confused. If the overhang is 1/2 inch and the seam is 1/4 inch, won't there be a pucker because there is a 1/4 inch excess in the binding? I hope I've explained myself correctly.
Hi B. Sorry for the confusion. I allow 1/2" of fabric just in case the seam is stitched too wide. Many viewers have a hard time with their seam width. It is better to have too much than not enough. It is easier to take it in than to let it out. Here is a link to a really easy pot holder without the binding: ua-cam.com/video/IpiXpTIRQhA/v-deo.html Thanks for watching, and happy sewing. 😍
Hello! I am a confident beginner quilter, and I will try to make these pot holders but I have a question! On the batting, do I use 100% cotton batting or can I use 80/20 such as Warm and Natural?
Hi Anne. I use the Warm and Natural. It does have some synthetic fibers in it. I have never had a problem with it. But If it comes in contact with very extreme heat, if could melt. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching💗 and happy sewing😍
Yes. I use a walking foot for all my quilting stitch patterns. It keeps the layers of fabric from stretching and shifting apart. Thanks for watching, and happy sewing. 😍
Thank you for this amazing tutorial - I am a beginner in sewing and I have a question - I do not understand the last step in the tutorial - do you stich the binding before you stich in the Ditch?
Hi Vivi. I have another video on binding that is a much easier method. Here is the link: ua-cam.com/video/KBLRxGAr9Xw/v-deo.html Go to about 5:35 into the video. Hope this is less confusing. ua-cam.com/video/KBLRxGAr9Xw/v-deo.html
rather than stitch in the ditch to get the back, wouldn't it be better to flip the project over, sew the binding down on the bottom and if you use the right colored thread, it'll be hidden in the body of fabric vs having the back binding seam be somewhere in binding?
Hi Linda. I use a size 90/14. If your needle makes big holes, the needle tip is probably worn down. Try to change you needle often. Thanks for watching, and happy sewing. 😍
Hi Angela. The only stitching that was done was the quilting stitches. These stitches hold all the fabric layers together. This makes it easier to sew the binding on. Hope this helps. Thank you so much for watching, and happy sewing. 😍
Hi Brenda. Go to sewingpartsonline.com. Enter your sewing machine brand name and model. They sell all brands and model. Make sure you read the descriptions to make sure you get the correct one. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching💗 happy sewing😍
Hi Georgy. I got the fabrics from Joann Fabrics and Crafts. The chili pepper fabric will be in the novelty fabric section. Thanks for watching, and happy sewing.

Great video. Instead of all the pins, I use the wonder clips to do the binding, The straight pins loves to bite me. lol
I think with plain fabric, it might be fun to use a variegated thread.
Love this video

Before you did the stitch in the ditch step did you first stitch the binding down on the other side you had just pinned?
