This is not a speech. It is a response to an interview questions. He is not saying it is better to be poor than to be rich. He is saying that it is better to actively pursue a goal. is purpose, the goal, the battle, the struggle, even if you don't win it... the journey
this is good stuff
This is not a speech. It is a response to an interview questions. He is not saying it is better to be poor than to be rich. He is saying that it is better to actively pursue a goal. He is speaking of his own meaningless existence after no longer being president and after having lost the opportunity to affect the changes he wanted. Also, Nixon reformed social programs, which a glorifier of poverty would not do, and indicates awareness of the difficulties of the poor and downtrodden.
This used to be our lives, there was no escape , now we live in life’s imitation.
Words of the wise.
as much as I hate this man, that was a powerful little speech. no one could have said that better
you really hate him?
Boomer liberal propaganda was that stiff huh?
"“Always remember, others may hate you, but those who hate you don't win unless you hate them, and then you destroy yourself.” Richard M. Nixon
He’s right
He may have had an evil streak, but he was one smart SOB.
He didn't have an evil streak. When the world is turned against you over lies, and then maligns you for your paranoia, there is little you can do. It is remarkable how innocent he actually remained
@@ceplio Starting a drug war on your own people and telling the corrupt South Vietnamese government, don't sign a treaty, I'll give you a better deal, is evil personified.
LBJ made Nixon look like Mother Teresa.
Richard Nixon was a foregin policy genious!
*Enjoy till it lasts*
I’m glad people are starting to see beyond this type of thinking.
A fine man, despite some serious wrongdoings.
The philosopher President. Outstanding.

absolutely true... nixon is the best... jfk just waved.. but nixon is doer of things
Mon 13 Sep 2021 : Richard Milhaus Nixon was one of the greatest and semi-enlightened Presidents we ever had. I miss him.
very difficult to imagine Trump or Biden speaking something as profound as this.
You don't need to do a daily grind at something (you probably hate) every day for 8+ hours to have purpose. Very few are lucky enough to do something they have a passion for. The rest are left making someone else rich at something that has little meaning to them....just chasing the dollar in order to survive.
Read Evan Thomas's 'Being Nixon.' He really could have been a great and noble man but for his character flaw- a deep resentment of the Ivy League elites who looked down on him because of his humble beginnings. He worked fanatically hard and ascended to the highest office despite being very shy and awkward. This soundbite recalls his farewell to the White House staff. I ran with the haters back in the day but my respect grows as time goes by.
I Love Nixon voice
Nixon was a fantastic president. First president in 25 years to open relations with China, started Detente which paved the way for the end of the Cold War, ended the Vietnam War, ended school segregation, set up the EPA. I could go on and on.
eisenhower ended school segroation
@@emilfrederiksen.1622 He started it but Nixon fully ended it, by ending it in the south
Most excellante! Si! I true friend to freedom, and humanity, everywhere! i know! Gracias RN
Nixon is our country's greatest modern president.
There was an online comment.
Watergate is similar to snatching a packet of gum.from the store today. Nixon handled foreign policy very well.
He would not have allowed Nato to expand beyond the borders of Germany. Nixon was a peacemaker. Presidents who came after him can learn much from him about foreign policy. Reagan was excellent like Nixon. After Reagan it is downhill for America.
Nixon had a bit of a chip on his shoulders but I can understand how he felt that way -- but did you know that he and JFK had mutual respect for one another and were in fact pretty good friends during their years in Congress & and (Nixon) as VP. (Read "Kennedy & Nixon" by Chris Mathews).
When I was a young boy we had giants like John and Robert Kennedy, along with Richard Nixon. Today what do we have? There are no real leaders.
@@tw364 One who don't even know that he was made President and one that doesn't accept that he wasn't made President......
Man USA truly was a global powerhouse at that point.
Richard Nixon encouraged millions of Americans to break in to politics.
As an Irish man
Nixon will always be remembered because he was tricky but highly intriguing,
His mind was complex but he had simple tastes
His tenure will forever be linked to water gate
Nixon was a good man and a great president.
If Richard Nixon had been a democrat or the Congress Republican, Watergate would only have been just a really cool place in DC to live and work.
I love this man. Great President!
I dont get tired of watching this man on youtube..lol He was a great and very smart man..I think the last smart Republican president..No insult to Regan though..he was a good man but not that bright
Very true
I'm a diehard Democrat and I'm not ashamed to say that Nixon was a fantastic President.
You are an idiot then.
I am a diehard hippy and I say the Lord works in not so strange ways
That is genius.
Underrated president
I'm not his fan. But he has said the most meaningful thing about 21st century life.
Suddenly I have an urge to return to 2008. 😐
