Very interesting conversation. I was commenting on that post Graham was mentioning. It was a provoking argument. I misunderstood the aim of the question initially then came around to Graham's point. I also agree with the comments regarding those who blatantly break the law and tell everyone about it in these groups, then when you say this isn't a good idea or you argue against it, you're accused of being the "Drone Police", they can't see that their actions could cause a major incident and everyone will pay the price for that.
Following up on the point about the 7” 8s prop comment, the regs are really just for dji type autonomous/ altitude hold drones and don’t deal with FPV at all , flying a FPV betaflight quad LOS has far more risk of danger for a new pilot yet allowed , but you need a spotter to be with in regs.
Seems that the Authorities want the same 'sensibility' as the relationship to the Highway Code and Road Traffic Acts. This makes sense as making legislation all embracing will ultimately result is so many restrictions that certain people will ignore them anyway.
One thing I realised not long ago is that if you are an A2 CofC holder and fly any drone in the UK (including the Air 2S, Minis 2-4 and Air 3S etc), you won't be able to fly any drone 50m from uninvolved people or congrsted areas even if your certificate is still valid after the legacy transition period ends. So in essence a year or so's worth of A2 qualification is lost immediately. I know the legacy transition ends on the 1st January 2026 but that techincally is forcing people to get an operational authorisation unless the CAA releases their own C Class system equivalent before the legacy transition ends allowing people to fly their current drones and newer drones under rules similar to current ones or slightly different ones. An Air 2S for example, won't suddenly become dangerous?! It has good obstacle avoidance, detects aircraft closeby and is very reliable etc etc. In the grand scheme of things, an Air 3 and and Air 2S aren't that different (ignoring weight). It feels wrong to me that you have to do that when you aren't doing 'higher risk' commercial work.
What we need is some clear understanding and Legislation that limits Councils in their endeavours to frustrate the hobby. Councils in their, IMHO, abuse of the PSPO Laws need a clear instruction that their authority does not extend into the atmosphere AND that if they do need an airspace restricted they should do so via approach to the CAA - with credible justification. That alone would remove an area where frustration and argument occurs and put the Police on notice about what is permitted and who controls airspace.
I find when out flying many people are curious and approach me to ask about the drone, thats Fine I can back the drone away which I do however, if battery is low and I want to land it can be a pain asking them to either back off until its down or asking for permision and explaining to make them an involved person, Its fine with Mini 4 pro but I always worry when flying my AIr 3s. Sadf that in EU C1 drones have same freedoms as C0 mini drones. After A2 Cofc passed in UK and signing up for Article 16 exception, then I find out to go to EU and fly you have to do it all again in Ireland and fit a 2nd OP ID sticker to the drone. However A2 is not needed in EU for C1 drones.
Great video. I am new to drones and a very risk averse person 😂. I took CAA test so have operator and flyer ID despite no intention to fly a drone exceeding 250g. Bought Neo which was a blast, ordered Mini 4 as quieter and less intrusive etc. BUT wanting to really embrace this hobby I see so many restrictions outside the obvious no fly zones like red FRZ in Drone Assist app. Especially around the coast, it seems there is very little coast without yellow SSSI zone which might be protecting something like a plant rather than a bird so I just can’t fly, even with tiny Neo. I guess I should just enjoy flying around my local fields and always within code! Just my observations as a newbie!
@@Flyingramses the channel has some great content around the SSSI situation. Having an SSSI in place is far from a ban on drones. You just need to click through to the citation on drone assist and work out if there is a likelihood of a drone causing an issue.
@ Thanks for that and very good point, I researched a couple that showed it was protecting rock pools so I guess if no other signage there is flexibility to fly. Another said same but owned by National Trust so no go. I will definitely do more research where I may like to fly and thanks again 👍🏼
How does the flying through buildings actually work given they lose line of sight?? I had a troll on my channel accusing me of only using a drone to annoy people because I couldn’t explain how it was done 😂 Literally said to him “it’s not something I’m interested in doing so I haven’t looked into it but please tell me if you know” - they didn’t but did try to use the “gotcha” against me - no idea what he was getting me on 😂😂😂 I just like to potter about and learn things about interesting places and the mini2 adds a cool element to this! Could be fun if I could legally fly through stuff tho so may look into it at a later point but if anyone has a quick answer, I’d appreciate it 😁
The biggest idiots who make it very difficult for us to enjoy our hobby, are audits who don’t follow the CAA guidelines who go out their way to antagonise, annoy and generally threaten with the drone whoever they’re trying to wind up, all for their channel content
@@whatsmine7848 I agree and disagree. Absolutely agree about the ones who don't follow the law/guidelines but I also think these people really test and push the law with the police (who are very often wrong!) and companies, bringing a faster awareness of drones. It's not the drones that's the issue with these people, it's their attitude. Provoking for response... for video watch time and therefore revenue.
@ got to agree, but there a correct way way of achieving awareness of drones and then there’s the total wrong way which most auditors not all seem to go for, just to improve their channel viewing figures.
Do you have an example of any using them illegally? I watch quite a few and now have a channel myself but can’t think of any who’d be silly enough to post videos of them breaking the law 🤔 Just because people are antagonised doesn’t mean their purpose was to antagonise A vegan could be fuming that a guys eating a steak but he’s not doing it to antagonise them
@@ImBaudits there are auditors who disregard VLOS which is easy to tell just by watching their videos either by the height and distance the drone as travelled or the light conditions but I’m not going to mention their channels

It is an interesting topic and I think we should chat more on it. Try to bring everyone together.
Great to read this 😁
Interested to see the original post you’re referring to. Was it on a Facebook group? Is there a link to hand?
Great show.
Thank you for the info.
Good stuff guys much appreciated.
Thank you!
Shame I missed the live show but still quality and looking forward to some winter sunset and sunrise shots !
Hey Hieth! Hope we get many to enjoy this year!

Was looking for a link in the description to the legislation?
The most accessible version is posted by the CAA under the CAP1789A wrapper. www.caa.co.uk/publication/download/17981
I thought The Drone Code was legislation. Very interesting. Thanks

49m you mean 49.5 or 49.9 surely?;) lol, informative as always Sean and Graham.
Graham will be carrying his calibrated laser measure!! (Now I have typed that, I am wondering if he actually does...)

I’m with Sean, I don’t ’do Facebook’
Can we all club up and get Graham a new camera, ? His fuzziness compared to Sean hurts - lol
@@3dmotormaker sorry. I had to set up very quickly and had a focus issue. Will sort for the next show.
The law should enhance the drone code . Today we see a totally gung-ho legislation which does more harm than good .
It certainly causes a lot of confusion.
Cauggt up at last...
Hey Lindsay! Hope you are well.
@Geeksvana Good, thanks. You too.
