    Very nice collection man. I will be re-vamping my reptile room this year with some custom cages and such, your videos like these are very helpful with my planning.

    Thanks. Respiratory Infections are not super uncommon, especially if you have a large collection. If it is caught early it can be treated very easily. I have had several snakes get it, and I have been able to clear it up in no time. As for the snake that died I was given 2 boas with really bad RI. One I was able to clear up but the RI in the other was to far advanced. If it happens to you just take them to a vet asap and you should have no problems.

    For brumation. They do it in ice coolers and refrigerators where people live in warmer climates to simulate breeding. Look it up

  • @twillis10
    @twillis10  12 років тому

    As long as its the right size for the snake yea. I usually try to put a hide if I can. In a rack its not quite as necessary since its dark in the back. If the tub is going to be out in the open I would definitely use a hide.

    So far one of the best reptilerooms ever

    Thanks. I got them at shows and off craigslist. But they are made by herpcages. last time I looked they were really well priced compared to similar cages.

    @reptileman24 Yea you can use heat pads with them. I was wondering about having an alarm for the power in the shed. I knew I could get one that would go off in the house but wasnt sure if it would go to my cell. Ill look into that.

  • @twillis10

    Its always fun to grow them up. Just make sure and do your research. The babies can be fragile die very easily if not kept 100% correct.

  • @twillis10
    @twillis10  12 років тому

    @Thereptileinfoguy Thanks. I have been building them a new cage that is almost finished that will have way more branches built into it and running across it. I dont want them to be tame though, I enjoy their crazy little attitudes.

  • @twillis10
    @twillis10  12 років тому

    Are you referring to the amazon tree boas? When I spray them it dries up within an hour or so. It doesnt need to stay wet to be humid, especially here in Georgia where the humidity is usually pretty hight anyways. Everything else I keep on newspaper it gets changed if the water spills or they pee.

  • @twillis10
    @twillis10  12 років тому

    @thenjmproductions Its a mixture of homemade cages, vision cages, herp cages, a boaphiles and a few other random cages.

  • @twillis10
    @twillis10  12 років тому

    Depends on how well the animals are kept. Even if they are kept right you still lose an animal from time to time. Not to often though. Most of the things that I have had die were fresh imports, which is why I dont buy imports anymore.

  • @twillis10
    @twillis10  12 років тому

    @TnGxAsSaSiN Thanks. I spray them everyday. I like the cages I have. The screen tops are only about half the size of the top. While humidity is very important, proper ventilation is also very important.

  • @twillis10
    @twillis10  12 років тому

    @reptileguy713 its just really big strips of bark held on by brown 100% silicon. I just put enough silicon to hold the bark then went back and filled in any open spots with silicon and put some smaller pieces of bark.

  • @twillis10
    @twillis10  12 років тому

    I actually have them on mulch right now, but thats really just to make cage cleaning easier on me. When cleaned routinely newspaper works just as well for most snakes Its not about being cheap. As for the camera it is a cannon t3i, a very very nice camera it just needs a better lens. But youtube is something I just do for fun so I dont feel like spending money on it.

    the cages of course. and I understand that it may be easier to maintain, I just believe that a snake would enjoy a natural looking environment more, of course we cant really know unless they seem stressed and they probably don't. So whatever to each his own preference just a suggestion

    I do spot clean on a daily basis and completely clean out any cages that need a full cleaning. I just usually do it after the fideos. If I do the cleaning and misting or any other maintenance before the videos by the time I am done I just dont feel like filming it anymore. Thats why I usually film before.

  • @twillis10
    @twillis10  12 років тому

    Im honestly not sure, since I got them all over time. The electric bill isnt really as bad as you would think, I mean its a little higher, but I live in an old house with bad insolation so its hard to say how much if it is due to the reptiles.

  • @TheProphet6661
    @TheProphet6661 11 років тому

    The tanks arent that bad as far as clean goes (Ive seen worse). A lot of those tanks look pretty nice. I thought I had quite the collection! Then again Im not a big snake fan, if I was, I guess I would have more reptiles in my collection. I built a 4x2' cage (one step before I build a 6x3') for my savannah but he was too small and it was cumbersome for his size. Now he's quite larger so I have to clear out some space in my herp room and switch him back. Nice collection and room though.

  • @twillis10
    @twillis10  12 років тому

    Really just depends on what you like best. Snakes are easier to care for in my opinion.

  • @twillis10
    @twillis10  12 років тому

    You can find babies around $100,maybe a little less, then they go up from there. Last time I looked you could find adult males from $200 - $300 on average.

  • @twillis10

  • @punkrockflower
    @punkrockflower 12 років тому

    In my opinion, if you dont have the time to keep all animals well cared for (e.g. cleaned out, handled regularly so they do not get stressed or aggresive when held) then you shouldn't have them. I work full time, but that doesnt mean that any of my snakes are neglected, I make sure they are left in the care of family of friends. If you cant spend enough time on them all, down size your collection. Give the animals the respect they need. Thanks.

    @FORGOTTEN760 It was home made, but not by me. Its not to hard to do if you have the time. The cage is a simple rectangle divided in half with plastic slidey things for the class. You can find tutorials for backgrounds on lizard-landscapesdotcom as well as a few other sites.

  • @TheSauropsidian
    @TheSauropsidian 12 років тому

    @twillis10 Sure! ofcourse =) Just something that is kind of 'on my mind' lately =p makes sense they would not need it because of the calcium they get out of their diet, on the other hand, seems weird that it would'nt be of any use to provide UVB, since they get it in nature aswell and lack it in captivity =P and since they are diurnal =P

  • @twillis10
    @twillis10  12 років тому

    @goldenstone18 That is way to cool unless you are intentionally trying to cool it for breeding. If you give it proper temps it should eat again (assuming thats why it stopped eating in the first place.) In my opinion there is no reason to cool down a snake if you are not planning on breeding it.

  • @punkrockflower
    @punkrockflower 12 років тому

    I mean that if Im away for a couple of days, I make sure that they are well cared for.

  • @twillis10
    @twillis10  12 років тому

    @TheSauropsidian It really depends on what type of monitor you are talking about. Large monitors do fine on a diet of mostly rodents. There is some debate over it but I believe savannahs fall into this category. The problem is not having temps high enough to properly digest this diet. Smaller monitors definitely need a more varied diet. All my smaller monitors eat mostly insects with rodents once a week and supplemented ground once every month or two.

  • @twillis10
    @twillis10  11 років тому

    Ive commented on this before but I dont always have time to clean every cage before doing a video. Anytime I make sure every single cage is clean before doing a video I definitely do not feel like doing a video afterwards.

    Yes kept alone and just put together for breeding it's fine. I saw another guy's videos where he had a male and 2 females in a 2' long opaque plastic tote box thing and from the looks of things he had them like that all the time. And then he's posting a video of a baby sand boa that he just found on the floor in his exotic pets room. Nothing wrong with anything in this video tho.

    @TheSauropsidian People have been keeping monitors healthy their entire lives without UVB. So I do not provide my monitors with UVB because results show there is no need for it. In my opinion there isnt really much of a debate, just people not willing to let go the fact that monitors dont need UVB.

    @twillis10 Why not? They are diurnal lizards aren't they? they get it in the wild aswell, lots of it =) there is alot of debate amongst keeper on wheter providing UVB or not for the nescessary D3 =P They need it as much as other lizards do. So why do you choose not to provide it? or do you supplement their diet every day with high D3 calcium?

    The room not being how I want it just means I dont like the setup yet, it has nothing to do with the animals. And when you have the amount of animals I have you are going to find a few dirty cages as you go through them. I take great care of my animals and certainly better care than most.

    you have quite a collection! but can i say i agree with zLeeeO. i think he/she meant to suggest that you please use some decent substrate instead of newspaper. If you're gonna keep reptiles don't be cheap, that's my suggestion as you asked. For the people giving you shit for the perches, they're just nitpicking, as long as there is a perch it's fine, though I prefer using real branches for my Merauke gtp. i don't mean to be an ass, but it would be nice if you could use a higher quality camera
